@netrioter the KX 500 that went 125.85 mph last year on VP race gas,synthetic oil and a jetted carb finally beat it,but is that considered stock? I guess it hit 132+ on the salt flats modified. I wonder if the KTM run was legit..still it took 30 years to beat it.not bad

Ahhhh the lovely sound of Big Bore 2 Strokes, There really is nothing quite like them for a thrill. Had a CR500 and loved it when it behaved its self. Maico's have a good reputation for power and reliability. Nice video.
The 82 had a bad suspension setup but aftermarket shocks could remedey the suspenion problem and make suspenion better. I just put a fox shox on my 82.
The 83 had some with heat treatment problems, however after 20 years all the bikes with problems have already failed. My 83 (I have 2 actually) is real reliable and very powerful motor.

Maico has a wide powerband, which is why I declared it the winner. The Maico just has a pull from idle that the CR500 doesn't. The CR500 likes higher RPM, still powerful bike and I even geared it much lower (was geared like 3.25 now it's like 4 or 4.25) so goes much better in the woods and has more low power but still not compare to Maico. This Maico is GS gearing, so 1st and 2nd are very low compared to my other Maico.
Something doesn't sound right about that engine, like it's a little lean or rich or something. Looks like you enjoyed your weekend a lot. I wish I had a Maico, but my Husky will do quite nicely for the next few years.
Idle is set up real high to prevent stalling, but the engine isn't hanging up. I put the jets to stock and I run a rich mix (30:1). I may still have to do some tuning though, the CR500 really hangs up, so I may see what that's jetted at and put it back to stock (was running before and there wasn't any scores which is why I didn't change it). The maico wasn't running before and blew up, I found the jetting was really lean so I put it back to stock.
But if you're talking about the engine sound itself, that's how it is supposed to sound, just like my 83. The maicos have a much meaner sound than the jap bikes.
Actually, it's running perfect. I was only afraid of it running lean, I know it's not running too rich because it's very responsive. The plug is perfect color so bike is spot on
Most of the video is actually roads, the trails are a bit tight to wind out the bike, so I wish there were more straight aways you could fully wind the bike out though!
