@DAPDave It was in April 1970 - The Academy Award Ceremonies for the 1969 winner. Richard was nominated for "Anne of a Thousand Days" The gown was created especially to showcase the 69 carot diamond that he had given to her a few months eariler.

She is always lovely, but her true beauty belongs to the 1950s: soft, waved hair, full figure in full-skirted luxury frocks, still slim, luminous face and eyes. She was stunningly lovely as a young woman. The mini-skirted 1960s did not suit her, she was never a "chick" and the straight hair and simple look of that era did not work for her. Same for the pants suit look of the 70s. The ultra feminine 50s fashion was perfect on her. She is a wonderful , brave woman, a real survivor

elizabeth faced with N-Hilton, but after seeing many of these photos, My bet is that her darkest days were with Senator J Warner. I truly wonder how she survived that life in DC ,and emerged to be who She is today.

Yes Greg. The Warner years were the worst. She lost everything and had to struggle to regain all of what was lost. It took years. With Nicky, she suffered a few months. You are a very perceptive man. :-)

Although in what ever decade we are lucky enough to see her in she lives up to what has always been said about her!

The 7o's were no exception! Even towards the end of the decade when she battled deamons that had laid dorment for years as she fought her beauty shown brighter! Every woman without exception if they have deamons that have not been dealt with clears out her emional closet in her 40's Elizabeth was no exception it seems,aftward a new kind of beauty emerges!!

Everyday must have been a struggle to even 'open' the door during the dark days. When they looked hopeless in 1979...she took on BROADWAY. Talk about being brave! Richard Bassett

I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful woman than that Oscar night with her presenting in the beginning of this video. She had the baby blue gown on, with that HUGE diamond necklace. She had a "stunning" beauty. She should've gotten ANOTHER Oscar just for showing up and being there.......

Another great video! I think it's kind of interesting what a transformation Elizabeth did in the 1970s. When the decade started she still looked young and sort of girlish and towards the end of it she had matured into a middleaged woman. It seems like she learnt a lot during this time though. It definitely laid the ground for the work she started in the 1980s with AIDS awareness and such. :)
