@sweetfly66 Nope, I got these way before the Yamaha Phoenix were even on the radar. These are custom drums made by Conaway. Yamaha stole the finish from me, haha!
@sweetfly66 Yea, it's basically the same finish: natural to blue fade. Mine has brass hardware, though, and the Yamaha doesn't have the same, cool perpendicular fade on the bass drum like I do.
Thanks! Actually, I am actually right handed, though; I just really like playing and working on coordination kind of stuff like switching leading limbs and stuff like that. It's definitely more comfortable to be leading with the left hand on a right-handed hi-hat setup, though.
I wouldn't say I really crank the heads (like Akira Jimbo, for example) but I do like them pretty tight. Both the batter and snare side heads are tuned to the same pitch. Here I'm using an Evans coated G1 and Hazy 300. It also might have something to do with the snare itself (Virgil Donati sig.) because it has die-cast hoops and a rounded top bearing edge.
Likewise! If I'm ever near Arizona (or you're near Alberta, for that matter), we should make it happen. Phat beats and phat bass lines always go well together.
rEALLY U R VERY GOOD AND CREATIVE MAN. bUT HONESTLY WHERE IS THE FAT. PETER ERSKINE made a point, if a drummer is constantly playn licks after a while ,its like bad wall paper. Watch Frank Beard or Steves Jordan or Gadd. It is fortunate for you that U didnt play this shit on a gig. It will get U fired man
I guess it depends on the gig, though. A bunch of these clips are grooves and parts that are suited to more aggressive/frantic/tension filled music. I'm not a huge fan of Beard's or Jordan's playing, but I really respect what they do. I adore Gadd's jazz playing, though. The Steve Gadd that I know and love is circa Chick Corea's "Three Quartets" album. Check it out; that band will blow you away!
Yea, I gig pretty frequently. Unfortunately, I don't get to play as crazy as some of this stuff is. It's mostly commercial jazz gigs or work with a theatre company that does music/comedy revues.
if you are going to call this "phat beats" I have to point out that you mispelled "beats", because in fact....if you are calling something "phat" followed by a "beats" it is then turned into "beatz".....It's like syncopation....You gotta balance the "phat" with "beatz"...Good luck in your future video titling.
Hey bro, i've been drumming for nearly 8 years and only NOW have i been trying to lead with open handed playing! great job man keep the hard work up!!!!
Relax your arms, and try to practice how even you play.. Each note should be as "loud" as the one before. - Still, dynamic, but.. Specially your BD is a bit "slacky".

not bad for off-the-cuff practicing.. I would enjoy some of those beats after abit of fine tuning.
really good idea to record yourself for practice purposes, but maybe not such a good idea to post it on youtube.

Good job man. I like how your practice covers a multitude of genres. That's the way to do it.

Thank you! Why limit yourself to one genre? You'll just be missing out on a plethora of other fulfilling artistic avenues.

my guess is these are orion mapex's with the gold hardwear ?

Nope, they're actually Conaway custom drums. They're maple with a natural to blue fade and brass hardware.

This seems like an improvised job no ;)
Bit of Rabb with a splash on the snare
Bit of Lang with the mad blast beats
Greb with the pedal hopping
Three of my favourite drummers in one solo
Top job keep at it

Yea, basically. It's technically a Johnny Rabb Drumbal from Meinl, which is basically just a thin splash with a nice little handle on it.
