If we ship a couple hundred people and ship a bunch of water to Mars I think we could start a whole new community up there, I'd love to be a part of that.
How do they get around Mars lack of magnetic protection from the Sun? I suppose they'll cover it in this but it sounds like a real idea killer, a CME would literally decimate Mars
One of the major issues i see with living on Mars is the gravity difference. I see a future where people who spend all their lives on Mars evolve to that gravity and become practically a different race. And everyone knows how humanity handles a race that is "different"
I refer to humanity as a whole, of course not everyone is as ignorant as a bigot...
And of course we hope modern and future people would be above such petty things, but all over the world petty things are blown out of proportion, in all periods of time. Its a human nature to have the "us vs. them" attitude, whether it be black vs. white, liberals vs. conservatives, Jews vs Muslims etc. I am just pessimistic about that human trait changing any time soon, if at all.
I can also easily imagine a scenario where in the future certain people of Earth will view people from other places in the solar system, such as Mars, as "evil" or "inferior" or "cursed" or a myriad of other things to justify their hate or mistrust or animosity of people who are "different". I hate that about humanity, but I think its bound to happen, I just hope it only a small amount of people are like that.
ok I'm all for this kind of crap but here's what I don't get. Ok so you spend 200 years and hundreds of billions warming this planet then, because it doesn't have enough gravity or an em shield, the entire atmosphere you just spent all this time and money terraforming gets blown away but the solar winds and you're back to sq1. I don't see anything but a domed or subterranean solution working there.
@freedomapplied The other videos ? click at top other videos all 5 parts are there (which I'm sure you know) but not watchable in your country, ie mine uk. so we can watch part 1 but not the rest. MMMMMM.
I am not trying to sound foreboding, but humans do things like this; we are territorial beings. The US Constitution has no jurisdiction and neither do the Gevena Convention provisions or the United Nations. I guess it will lead to the drafting of an Inter-Planetary Constitution, but who knows how broad or narrow that may be. In a nutshell, the colonization of Mars can potentially lead to the elimination of the human race. I can see why people may be wary of the idea.
I just thought of this and I can see why the government has concerns about getting that ball rolling on the human life on mars endeavor. Imagine, people colonize the planet, terraform it and begin governing themselves. The Earth continues to deteriorate and receives resources from Mars to sustain its population. What happens when the Martians say that they have their own sovereignty and reserve the right to tax Earth based countries for exports? What happens when Martians develop weaponry?
@AgrivatedKillah It can, but who are the people going there to colonize first? If it is Americans, then Mars becomes a United States outpost and sovereignty cannot be claimed...for a while. It all depends on who goes there. If you send different nationalities with different religions, you in essence will re-create the earth bound issues. The generations born from the first waves of colonists are the ones that will seek freedom and develop weaponry in the name of their planet.
@AgrivatedKillah In continuing, Mars can never be its own country; it will be its own planet complete with natural resources and other intangibles that cannot be enjoyed on earth. The residents of that planet will reserve the right to tax any export and to extend its rights as far as possible. That is why I say the Constitution will not be able to extend itself without be drastically altered, which will create other issues on earth.
@AgrivatedKillah I see what you mean. I believe that would be possible, but once again is that issue of separation. Humans love to do so on the basis of their minute differences. A country that is small and growing can easily splinter into various offshoots claiming sovereignty. Various examples of that can be found here on earth. The contractors who ARE planning this type of undertaking will do their best to control the populations and create jobs, but to what extent can they assert law?
Some kind of trees grow on Mars now. I've seen too many YouTube NASA photos of trees on mars, standing water and civilization, whether past or present.
i think the easier way is to connect a couple of rockets to mars and drag the planet our way and place it right next to us so it will warm up in a couple of day, faster and cheaper.
sound fucking dumb doesn;t it?
yeh just like THIS video lol this is so fcking stupid but amusing.
Hey but seriously, it would be cheaper then sending trees their etc etc, and travelling to mars will be easier for all time making it a rendable option. I do think we need a few more millenias of rocket research may we ever have rockets big enough to do that.
Then when mars can be living.. A new Stalin born, new Hitler born and war happen at mars.. Nothing different if people itself never change his attitude
I appreciate your comment, but I wudn’t put my money on a company (NASA) owned by a govt whose order of the day is secrecy. I however look fondly at the European Space Agency to bring us to the ‘next step’.
@weepingod because if you want make mars to be a habitable you need first to warm it up using co2 or similar gas... we doing this with our planet right now even when we dont want to..problem with australia is opposite..its explained well in this documentary..
But first the USA will need to get out of bankruptcy, re-establish a non-military Space program, get over climate-astrology ideas of Co2 driving the climate.. actually be able to do any of this shit in real life , rather than in a fanciful doco using CGI.. and then.. yeah. It's on the 'to-do' list. ;)
@OzzyPatriot I appreciate your comment, but I wudn’t put my money on a company (NASA) owned by a govt whose order of the day is secrecy. I however look at the European Space Agency to bring us to the ‘next step’.
@weepingod or turn it into a giant solar panel for the good of mankind .
shit i mean it would on take a small portion of outback to generate enough solar power for the world never mind about the stockpile potential for future use in space earth or even mars!. oz could make some serious bucks if they used the land they stole from the Aboriginals pmsl.
@komaki119 But you guys are living on an island. The nation closest to you wud be Indo. I guess its poss to hav an undersea power cable connection for such a short distance, and of course you hav to account for the very active geologic factors in that area.
I was thinking more like using the power for yourselves like sucking up sea water, desalinating it and moving it inland via pipes and just pouring it in the middle of the desert and watch as it turns to new forests.
Interesting ideas on procedures. To make this work brings all kinds of research. Great job!

But I also believe we should try terraforming WHILE we're under the ground.

@13JunkYarDog13 who is "humanity"
Only certain racial groups have a long history of racial prejudice, and even then that doesn't reflect on modern humans.

and make Venus crash into Mars at a 17% angle
this is much like the earth did with a other planet so long ago
plus it 'll make a planet just like owr own with a moon just like owr own moon
so don't believe in this much.,.
