Both were named CSM Ashmore........I drove for the squadron CSM before he went back to the "world" on the "freedom bird".......

  • I was there from 1985 till 88 ! I was an Army wife only 18 years old when I got there , I had my 2 baby boys at the small privet german hospital (heart of Jesus) I was married to PFC Mahoney we had a wonderful Tour there ..made alot of friends, he soon made rank and we got housing up on the hill they called Little Chicago....rember at 5:00 when they would take down the flag and sound off the cannon! BOOM! everyone would stop in there tracks and get out of there cars! those where amazing times!

  • I thank you very much for posting this. I was a member of Charlie Troop 1/11 ACR for several months before being sent to HHT 1/11 ACR. Served with pride there in Fulda 1984-1986 and had "Son of Tank" as my Squardon CO: LTC John Abrams. The man was so charasmatic that I believe if we had orders to storm HELL and take over, he'd be the man to pull it off. I truly miss DOWNS BARRACKS and not to mention Herkules ( The Mall in Fulda...not to mention the Irish Pub! )

  • Wow this brings back so many memories. I worked for CID from 86-88. Never forget the Thanksgiving at our quarters. We had single and married enlisted, German nationals, single officers..................it was unforgetable!

  • 9mikeee my brother was in hht 88 to 90.iwas in btroop.

  • I was stationed with HHT Regt from 87-90. Worked in the comsec vault in the basement of the headquarters bldg. Was there when the wall went down. I spent my share of time in Graf and Hohenfels. Lots of good memories.

  • Stationed there 87-89 with HHT !/11 Hellfighters. I remember seeing Platoon in that theater. I drove my M577 down to that railhead many times over on my way to Graf and Hohenfels. I lived above the MP station on the thrid floor, I almost thought I was going to get to see my window for a second. Remember PFC Westmorland (B Trp) dying on the Graf CALFEX range in '88. I worked for Mr Kay at the aid station. Great times! reply if were there during that time.

  • @9mikee I was there the same time PFC Westmoreland was there - we were in processed there in June 87. I was at Graf when his Bradley was hit from one of the M1's from Delta. Talk about being bummed out when we heard about it. He was a great guy. I was in A Troop from 87 - 90 - we were part of the group that got kicked out from Costa Brava in Spain in 87. Took the bus home and no one said a word when we got back! Some of the best years of my life were spent there!

  • wow i havnt seen the commissary and mp station in over 20 yrs.. wished you would of had the play ground there.... cause that was were i spent the majority of my time at when i was 6ish... i wonder if the slides are still orange?.. anyways .. nice video

  • OMG! My dad was stationed here from 63-67. I went back to Germany in 06 with my husband & we took a side trip to Fulda-I could've walked that base blindfolded! So much was the same-the layout & most of the buildings I remember were still there. The school was the same-just added onto the backside. The drillfield is a parking lot and the church is boarded up & the steeple is gone, & so are the helicopter pads. I took old pix that my parents had taken in the 60's and tried to take the same shots.

  • Damn, I miss that place.

    88-92

  • looking at the new officers club brought back some good and not so good memories, lol remember getting threw out of there for being in the girls restroom stall with a greman chick who drug me in there,i was so damn drunk.the good ole days!

  • God, the memories this brings back. My two kids waking up in the middle of the night terrified at the alert siren... going on alert when the embassy in Tehran fell and Downs Barracks was sealed by the simple expedient of parking two M-60 tanks across the road at the gates... when the first live Super Bown on AFN ended at 02:00 and a USAREUR-wide alert was called five minutes later... turning in the Sheridans for M-60's... Garry Owens on the parade field...

    Black Horse!

  • I was one of the PAC Clerks in First Squadron and always wondered what happened to good ole Downs Barracks. I can't believe the way it is now, different but the same somehow. I miss that place. I guess there's only one thing to say.....ALLONS.

  • my husbans was stationed there from 89 -94

  • HHT Regt '90 to '92 FSE Great years!! Green Goose ruled!

  • @gajithound hey i was there from 88 thru 92 HWB 1/11 and hell yea the Green Goose ruled for sure! those was the good ole days!!!

  • I worked alot of shifts in the MP Station there 91-94. Do you have anything on Bad Hersfeld? Thanks.

  • was stationed there in late 80s. i remember some of the places at downs barracks but i was on the airfield so alot of the places i have either forgot or didnt see when i was there. love the video. i miss fulda as well. now that everything is different it feels as if part of my youth is gone forever.

  • Bring back memories. I was an MP in Heidelberg and Stuttgart from 1988 to 1992.

Everrthing all changed once the Wall fell and Germany Unified. For the worse, The SOFA Agreement etc. Soldiers, FRamily members and DOD Civilans lost a lost as the SOFA agreements changed. We had a good life in the Cold War days, and all I can say it was Mission Accomplished as the goal was German Unification and an end to the Soviet Threat . Today the US forces in Germany have it totally different. I dont like it.

  • I was there 1988 to 1990. Yeah, Green Goose. Spent a lot of drunk nights there.

  • @vnycum green goose ruled

  • I was an MP there from 1988 until 1992. Most fun I had in the Army! My son was born in the Fulda Krankenhaus. Green Goose was great!

  • OMG! What memories....I was there as a teacher from 1974-1976!!!! Was hoping to see the schools....maybe next video???? Thanks!

  • I was there 77-80. Tank plt ldr, Cav plt ldr, HHT XO, Asst. RS-3. If the rest of the Army could have their stuff together as tight as this Regiment was, no one would even think about pissing us off.

God Bless the Blackhorse and all who have served.

I was also a UP and spent many a night in both the main and second gate guard shacks. Wow! I wonder if you can still get in the buidlings, it would be awesome to see our old barracks and messhall. Very cool, thanks again!! You may be alone there, but you are not forgotten.

Our barracks was one building over (to the west) from the MP station. Wish the Schnell Imbiss was still next door, I could really go for a bratwurst and pomme frittes right about now!

  • wow I left there in 1991, thx for the pics!
