Viking Metal: Better than that faggoty emo music, because we're brutal and we'll chop your god damn head off with a battle axe if you dispute our claims. Hail Ragnorok!
i think that this song and "A Dreaming Beauty" by Graveworm are two incredibly beautiful songs that are somewhat similar.
anybody agree or dissagree?
also the lyrics for this song are amazingly well written. i am always in awe of the lyrical quality of songs like this. the song captures and broadcast the feeling in the lyrics perfectly if you ask me.
Remember, Enslaved began their life as a relatively straight ahead black metal band (Up to Vikingligr Veldi, I'm guessing) and over time morphed into their "progressive extreme metal" sound.
i didnt mean to imply that at all my friend. please dont hastily preach to me about the existence of satan and God with a capital g over a youtube comment, they would hardly appreciate that. nor do i make out enslaved to be satanists. i just want this song to melt my face
So glad that Opeth brought these guys over and they toured together in the US. What a magnificent show, and pairing of two great veteran bands. Enslaved performed this, and it was one of my highlights of the night.
I saw them with Opeth too. It was a great show, and I will not forget their performance of this song. It was so unearthly, like nothing else was real.
This song is absolutely epic live, it sounds even more amazing when the double bass drums are making your heart rumble and just absolutely everything. 5/5 stars
forgive me, Zom879, although i knew how i spelled it before the message was posted. my intent was only inspire a personal liking to the song rather than complaining to one another, but clearly you have missed the point. oh well, i still enjoy the song
For satan's sake ?? You listen to Black Metal it doesn't mean that you need to believe in satan, kid. I don't believe in Satan, because if he exists, then God exists too.
@Neuroneos if both of them do exist, that doesn't mean that God is the more powerful of the two. He just happens to be the one with the most propaganda. Side note: Enslaved are Pagans not Satanists
"BM" in each comment, like kids xD - oooh this is bm.. yeeeees and it is prooog... nooooo it is viking... but its commercial so its shiiiit... yeeees and it is mainstreaaaam, it suuuux...
they have very deep text so its hard for one to understand it... some of em you can understand just after reading books about runes or northern mythology with explantion
as far as the commercial music argument goes, most successful songs and acts have big time money from record companies backing them so it gets jammed the publics throat like a big, horrible cock of banality.
but yes, enslaved is amazing. i saw them with opeth in boston last week. fucking killed it as well.
Of course. its true, but what do you know about how to make hip hop and so on? However, Enslaved are one of the few bands in the world that are "well-thought-trough-music" haha ... xD listen to the album Ruun. Its their best album, the Vertebrae og Ruun-albums are the only one I got, I love those albums.
You think its easy to make a commercial song? If it was that easy to make popular music that sold millions of albums there'd be many more people doing it.
Making a commercial song is like becoming a prostitute. There will always be men to pay to screw you. And there you have the musical prostitution. Compare the first and last Dimmu Borgir albums for better understanding. They say it's musical evolution... I call it prostitution.
Now, compare the first and last Enslaved albums. This is where evolution stands, in better sound and composition.
I listen to both mentioned bands, but it's easy to realize whose side I am on.
I agree, and I don't listen to most mainstream bands. However, I still say its not EASY to make a pop song. Its very hard to be that catchy and appeal to millions of people, and thats why people get payed so much money to write songs like that for pop stars.
The problem isn't that it's easy to make a catchy song. The problem is that most artists that do so are doing it for the money, and disregarding the music that's in their heart.
Pop not as much, but rap is fairly easy to do. I have a friend of mine who can churn out songs that people would find catchy, and they generally do. All it requires is a simple and catchy beat, which are so easy to make, and basic lyrics and some "rhythmic talking" lol.
Well, some pop artists make an album with three good songs, and they make musicvideos for those select three. But the other songs might be crappy, because the advertisement the whole album gets makes people buy it.
Some famous rock bands do this as well, but the other songs are usually better.
I think it's relatively easy to make a pop song if youre working on a record. What so many bands fail to do is to exclude those songs which aren't good Enough. They often have too many songs to include.
Enslaved is also a lot more art-sie than Dimmu. Enslaved is more about atmosphere, where as Dimmu is much more symphonic. Enslaved is very similar to Opeth in my opinion.
i don't even care if it is BM or not, it surely has some influence... and prog metal, ya i've seen that a lot. many music sites classify enslaved as that. but yes this is so much more, and one of their best albums indeed. have most of their stuff, pure art!
ok, this is my favorite song through all time! that is 100% true! heard it first time a few weeks after christmas this year and i`ve never get tierd of it for some reason...
