do you see a parallel between Black people being dysphoric about their race, and biological females doing the same thing in the trans* community? "Being born black ruined my life". How many times have you heard biological females say this about being born female?
@EveryoneLovesAHero I don't see the parallel. Race is purely a social construct and racial attitudes are learned over time. Gender, on the other hand, is a mystery. We still don't know how people know what gender they are. Maybe it is something innate. Children as young as 2 have displayed trans-gender identification. I've yet to hear of a two year old black child claiming she is white. Racial attitudes are learned over time, internal attitudes about one's gender may not be.
@EveryoneLovesAHero Also, I have never heard a transmen saying that being a female ruined his life, though I've heard plenty say that being trans has.
Bravo! I landed here after Googling "white brothers and sisters" because I refer to everyone in that manner occasionally. I'm linking this video on my website after I complete the rebuild.

I am not being a smart ass in asking this question. I'm trying to understand.
Why is it considered okay for a transgender person to express ideas of dysmorphia and see transition as a solution to that, but when that young man on Tyra is displaying classing dysmorphic signs, it is considered a sign of the effects of racism?
Why is it okay for a man to say that he hates his breasts and not be considered misogynistic, but not okay for a man to say he hates his nappy hair and have be racist?
@MsGoddessofoddness Good questions. My "Feminism, Womanhood, and Transition" video may help explain why transition isn't misogynistic, so watch it if you haven't.An ftm expressing gender dysphoria doesn't necessarily hate women.A black person expressing "racial dysphoria"(something that doesn't even exist from a medical standpoint) does hate black people.Gender transition is strictly a personal matter whereas the black ppl in these clips clearly express negative attitudes toward their entire race
@itsGOTtobegroovy I know the point. I wasn't talking directly to him. Just anyone who thinks Donald Trump means anything to White people. We don't even like Trump either.
Amen. Thanks for sharing your experiences (and those of your grandmother etc). I remember reading "Noughts and Crosses" a few years ago - a novel where the relationship between white & black people was reversed (so it was the opposite of our society). In that novel the only bandaids in the supermarket were ones that were brown coloured. The book helped me to see through my own white privilege & be more aware of how life is different for minority/disadvantaged members of society.
Hey Melvin, thank you for making this video! This is some shit that people need to hear. Last month we had a "cultural competency" lecture at my school and it turned into about 15 white people one after the other saying that "racism isn't a problem here." WTF??!! Hope the white people in your life care about and love you enough to listen!
Bravo! I absolutley LOVE this in-depth look at self, community, society - internalized racism isn't easily understood. Everyone out there needs to see this video. The Deaf Community has alot of similarities that you discuss. This video needs to go viral. Will share on FB and Tweet. Keep on believing in yourself, keep the faith.
this is interesting to me. I can't comment on what its like to be black and living in america, because i'm white and live in australia. but i've always wished i had african american features. You're beautiful.
Wow. Mel, I always get so excited when I see new videos from you in my queue. I love your thoughtfulness, openness and humor. This was simply brilliant. Thank u so much for sharing.
@itsGOTtobegroovy I LOVE this in-depth view of internalized racism, psychological impact, and how it still exists, not just in the black community but the deaf community as well. Bravo.
thanxx for this off-trans topic vid, it is this type of reinforcement that makes me not ashamed at all to be a SELF HATING caucasian person
and also note that i have had situations and experiences when i was VERY young that still effect me to this day and kinda give me the same feelings that self hating black people do, so i do feel for them, and i HATE my UGLY PALE SKIN!!!, and i dont care what anyone says about that
This is very interesting, friend. Sorry but can you explain what you say at 1.23-1.30 because English is not my native language and I struggled to understand this part.
@jdk946 I said that we (black folks) are socialized to see ourselves and think of ourselves according to how white society sees (and thinks about) us. This is just as true now as it was 300 years ago (during slavery)
Wow. This was a very eye opening video for me. Excellently done! I did not realize how racism can be so damaging....I really try to see everyone as equal. I personally can relate it to how I feel around uptight straight people...very uncomfortable. Great topic...I am not sure if I can verbalize a response video, but I may try.
great video, thank u 4 educating The People. i think slavery is still going strong and its just changed along with the times; prettier, shinier. i'd also like 2 point out that monkeys, being "savage" & "primitive" r not bad things, or "lower" than human; such hierarchical, judgmental thinking comes from the eurowestern culture that is founded on lying, manipulation, theft and violence to keep itself in existence, as well as the creation of racism in order 2 justify its horrors against humanity
While they're pulling credentials i would love to see G.B's put on blast! If any president deserves to have his intelligence or qualifications questioned it would be him but trump must have been too busy fattening his pockets with the help of that prez to have anything bad to say about him. Ur right tho this is about race whether they admit it to themselves or not...from day one they wanted him to seem undeserving...
@Luckey2007 Yes, please do a response. I would love to see response videos to this. Yeah, some of it seemed kinda fake to me, but I used those clips to prove a point because I know of other black folks who've struggled with their racial identity.

Those talks shows are fake. The producers tell the people what to say and how to act. But some people are REALLY like that in real life.
