I have one of these cars and they can be tricky at times to solve whatever issues they may present.
From what i have seen in the videos i can tell your car is running too lean.
White Smoke-When you have white smoke out the exhaust the car is being starved of fuel which results in detonation of the fuel which can result in valve damage if run too hard under this condition.
Black Smoke-When you have black smoke this is a condition of running too rich.
My best guess is that your fuel pressure regulator is shot, but you should first check your fuel line pressure before doing so.
The fuel pressure regulator is controlled via vacuum and the one mounted to the fuel rail in this particular car is boost sensitive. When the car is at idle the pressure regulator is under negative pressure and as you boost and the pressure starts to build the more fuel the regulator holds back raising the fuel pressure in the line.
This can be several things. But obviously it is not a coil issue. Check for a vacuum leak between the firewall and the engine. Passenger side. You will get this exact same symptom with a vacuum issue. If you find nothing, repost and we can continue troubleshooting this. I collect and restore Daytona Shelby's btw.
Pretty sure I've checked and rechecked all vaccum lines, but I'll look into that when I can.
That's cool that you restore Shelby's, my boyfriend owned one for a bit but he had to sell it. I'd like to restore the Turbo Z eventually but it needs a hell of a lot of T.L.C.
u check how your fuel is getting to the engine makybe one of the injecters is bad pumpin to mach gas and fowling one of the cyls out or not enough gas
Could be, but the injectors are brand new. I guess they could be faulty, but my bets are on the computer. The car ran fine before we put the new one in and now it won't idle.
If it was working fine before that then ya. I have an 84 Daytona and the computer in mine was screwing everything up. It may have a broken peg, bad wiring, just a lemon from the factory, etc.
Timing is spot on, checked a few times. Coil is good, newish MSD. Injectors brand new and fuel rail wiring harness is new as well. Should be firing on all, just really rich. We'll find out though... I guess
ive got the same freeking issue with my 84 turbo z :(

your definetly not runing on all cylinders for sure maybe timeing or somthin with the coils
dekker1257 2 years ago
It's not the timing and the coil is good (been tested), everything should be working but it's not.
