Never liked Mummer all that much, they were realling from the loss of Terry Chambers and his inimitable drum style and came up with what I thought was an album of mush. I like it more now but Mummer is still one of their weakest albums.
I've heard that he was upset over the band giving up touring as he wasn't a writer and enjoyed playing more than working in the studio. Also he fell in love with a girl from Australia so he decided to move there.
Yep. It would be a long-overdue gesture to finally put out an XTC video compilation. C'mon, Virgin, get off your greedy, lazy butts and put one out already.
I find it funny how the whole song production style (the synth bloops, and whole rich pastoral feel to the song, the drum machine), and the song lyrics (late-night parties, wonderland fantasies), sum up the 80s in a nutshell, but Mummer came out in 1983. Talk about being ahead of the curve, and ahead of your time!
oh wowee zowee...they made a video for this song..ha ha, wow, i never knew....ah, one of colin moulding's finest tunes um hmm :) and i love the line, "welcome to reality, um hmm" aaaah, bliss
Damn, I have not seen this video. I didn't even know it existed! What a beautiful song! I think it's high time a XTC DVD was released with ALL their video clips and not some shabby quick buck wonder.
collin is a great singer. but no one knows him.. such a shame.

What ever happened that Chambers left the group? Did he leave voluntarily, or die?

'All the riches that shine will turn sour.'
This song still works now with people's over-obsession with cellphones, i-pods and blackberries.
