  • @HaloCE14 UP's conductor he died a year before Lynn did. UP held a joint memorial service and named two of their cars after them they are the Reed Jackson Concession Car and the Lynn Nystrom Museum Car.

  • @GP9railfan Did Lynn Nystrom pass away or did he retire? If he passed away, Do you know what it was from? Or not? Lynn truly DID know the steam locomotives like the back of his hand!! He was an EXCELLENT fireman and engineer!!!

  • @ford9572 Lynn passed away early May 2010. He died of a coronary artery.

  • Lynn was the fireman a lot of times on 844 & 3985 when Steve Lee was the engineer, In fact, Lynn & Steve took 3985 in the Winter of 1992 from Cheyenne all the way to Kentucky on CSX track that was formerly the Clinchfield Railroad's for the 50th anniversary of the Clinchfield Santa Claus train, And 3985 was made to look like former Clinchfield Challenger 676, I have a DVD that picks up the trip in Memphis and Lynn dressed up as Elvis!! He had on a white sequined jumpsuit Elvis wig and sunglasse

  • The 3985 is still running, just to set the rumors straight.

  • Nice work Skip. That place is quite the facility. Not quite the same now that Lynn is gone tough.

  • RIP Lynn Nystrom. he ran the engines like a symphony

  • he was one of my heroes. now hes gone

  • nice video RIP Lynn Nystrom the guy who gave you the tour Skip he was the best engineer UP had.

  • @geomodelrailroader Amen to that.

  • @GP9railfan lol

  • @geomodelrailroader LOL? What you said is true. He was the best of the best that probably any railroad ever had.

  • @GP9railfan Lynn loved to run the trains his place was up in the cab. if you see a passenger car with his name on it take off you hat and show some respect. Lynn Nystrom knew the trains and the trains knew him.

  • @geomodelrailroader Absolutely. The man knew trains like the back of his hand.

  • @GP9railfan LOL

  • you are lucky man, I wanna do that

  • thanks for sharing

  • Aww... I Sure as heck thought Steve Lee would be the engineer !

  • Do any one know when is the next open house to see UP844??? and I want to know the facts that I am hearing about not running 3985 any more????

  • @jameskinglion, today May 29, 2010

  • @jameskinglion Cheyenne Depot Days is usually on a weekend towards the end of May, check their website

  • @jameskinglion they only run 3985 on special occasions as well as 844 and 6936 so they dont always run

  • I don't respect the oil burners as much as the coal burners. It seems like a cop out to me. Still I's love to see the 3985

  • Does the UP still have the 5511?

  • Lucky jerk! JK. Your lucky though. Five stars and favorite!

  • AWESOME video, Skip! Very informative. Great job!

  • Skip, this is great. You did well to get Lynn to talk on camera.

  • Lynn is the man that knows his stuff! He gave me a tour of the place also. :D

  • UP Steam conductor for 14 years and volunteer for several years before.

  • i really think they should restore a big boy i heard they are restoring up 4018 i saw a website about it and ive luckily seen #3985 pull a freight train i think i have footage of it and it hasnt pulled one in about a decade

  • that was a rumor from the 90's. A plan was to restore the engine for a movie but it fell through.

  • they cant fix up 4018 1 modern track would break under the 1.3 million pounds they tried to convert it to fuel oil which could not be done so any big boy will never be running it would also not pass epa laws

  • The Challenger is 1.2 million lbs. Also, based on the time Big Boys were built, they don't have to meet EPA standards. Not even Tier I. Leviathan got special permission, but technically, it must meet Tier II standards. It almost meets Tier I. Besides 4006 is in better shape though.

  • 844 actually has a big cab. 4449's is about half as big!

  • Ohh Lynn. He's a character. Great sense of humor

  • rarely

  • It sure dont! I didnt do it real justice, but I got lucky to get the 5 min. for my subscribers!

  • Where's 3985's tender?

  • I think it was in the roundhouse

  • Was 3985 under repairs?

  • Something in the flue, they tried some new modifications, but they did not work out as well as anticipated, so it is being outfited in the original configuration, it was running a little rich/oxygen starved or something along those lines.
