Being denied the freedom to pursue the roles she desired and be seen as a talented actress were indeed Marilyn's obstacles, but that does not mean she disliked her sex symbol image or that viewing her in that manner is disrespectful to her image. Above all, she wanted to be remembered and loved, which she certainly is.
Marilyn's favourite memory was also singing to the troops in Korea, she reveled in the attention she received from the men who loved her sex symbol image.
How is this rare if there's a full length movie of her in color out there for any and everyone to see?

Why is it sad that she is seen in a sexual way? Marilyn did many things to further her image as a sex symbol, she by no means avoided it.
