Brazilian song? It's an homage to Os Mutantes (hence the name of the album) and others tropicalistos, but isn't it an original composition? It's got nothing to do with Caetano Veloso's song of the same name anyway...
@herecomesthesun21287 yup i work there too its on one of the albums that was selling. I was called "in a bossa nova mood" i think it was selling around july ish well if you work at a franchise store and not a licensed store. It has some awesome new age bossa nova music on there this being one of them
I love the sounds he creates on this whole album-- definitely paved the way for Sea Change. I love him-- he's earned a place as one of my favorite artists of all time.
I've been trying to capture some of his sound with my music lately. If any of you have a free moment, I'd love to hear what you think of it-- check out my new music video on my channel. Thanks!
Diamond Bollocks is the best song on this album IMO. I mean, if you count it as a part of it, which I do, because in the UK it was given it's own track listing.
This song reminds me of the "schmusic" off of Walk Hard. "It's still not finished yet. I'm hearing... more Aboriginal percussionists. And I want an army of digeridoos. Fifty thousand digeridoos!" Haha great!

Definetly it's not "samba-rock". "Tropicalia", as a music genre, is exactly what he did in this music: the popular brazillian music mixed with great tunes of guitar (and a lot of psychedelic). Whatever, it's a genious musician playing and composing brazillian music, very well by the way. P.S: I'm brazillian.
Hey, remember the days before iTunes and other internet music stores? I sure do. I bought this album just.for.this.song. Can't say it was the best $17.99 I ever spent, but at least it's a good song.
Ok Beck, I love your music. But this influence (in this song) is much more to "samba-rock" by Jorge Benjor than "Tropicália" (60's brazilian musical movement).
Haha I'm sure Beck's got it under his hat. He is or at least used to be a huge fan of Tropicalia, and has said one of his favorite bands was Os Mutantes. Perhaps his purpose wasn't to write a straight-out tropicalia tune? I can feel some tropicalia in here though. Can't say I listen to much "samba-rock", however
i love this song, but people say its the best beck song.dont get me wrong, this is a great song, but some better beck songs are "Loser", "Where It's At", "Sexx Laws", and "Devil's Haircut".
i'm just saying that they make a big deal of this, saying it's the best. sure, it might be the best on Mutations (I like Bottle of Blues a bit more though) and what do you mean 'generic person'? Generic people don't like beck because they haven't heard of him other than Loser and mabye Where its at
It's a combination of sarcasm and love of Beck. I call him a generic person because he names Beck's four most popular songs as his best. Which makes me frown like a clown goin' down on the town
@punkguyrich no, i love every beck song, except probably for some songs on midnite vultures and the information... but no doubt, beck is my favorite artist ever

@fashionandmusic921 It's a cuica, often called 'the laughing drum' for the sound.
