  • this song sounds so tropical

  • sounds like elevator music

  • I love that cuíca sound.

  • Got some mad skills on the cuíca goin'.

  • I love this album

  • mfw i realized this was girl from ipanema. oh lawd

  • Brazilian song. In English. Nice... mas eu prefiro em português.

  • @PauloVinicius2111

Brazilian song? It's an homage to Os Mutantes (hence the name of the album) and others tropicalistos, but isn't it an original composition? It's got nothing to do with Caetano Veloso's song of the same name anyway...

  • @herecomesthesun21287 yup i work there too its on one of the albums that was selling. I was called "in a bossa nova mood" i think it was selling around july ish well if you work at a franchise store and not a licensed store. It has some awesome new age bossa nova music on there this being one of them

  • Heartbreakers brought me here...

  • Wow, for the first time ever, Bossa Nova has depressed me.

  • he looks like me O.o

  • i don't know how he does it. he is just, he is like the best

  • I love it ^^

  • amazing

  • mad ass beats

  • one word GENIUS OH YEAH F CASTRO

  • Diamond Bollocks is the best song on this album IMO. I mean, if you count it as a part of it, which I do, because in the UK it was given it's own track listing.

  • I like this song. It makes me think of orange juice in the summertime.

  • I love the straw.

  • heart breakers!!

  • woaaa, LOVE this song!!!

  • Mutations is an album that i cannot imagine who can do it

  • This song reminds me of the "schmusic" off of walk hard. "It's still not finished yet. I'm hearing... more Aboriginal percussionists. And I want an army of digeridoos. Fifty thousand digeridoos! "

  • Personally mutations is second only to Seachange

  • todo el f cd is great. he is the man.

  • why is everyone calling the album mostly country, acoustic doesnt mean country

  • Love is a poverty you couldn't sell...brillig.

  • i like at the end when it meows

  • thumz up if u think this is the B-E-S-T! song ever!

  • Os mutantes....

  • Definetly it's not "samba-rock". "Tropicalia", as a music genre, is exactly what he did in this music: the popular brazillian music mixed with great tunes of guitar (and a lot of psychedelic). Whatever, it's a genious musician playing and composing brazillian music, very well by the way. P.S: I'm brazillian.

  • Good song :)

  • i cant say i really have a favorite beck song, i really like this one, but right now im stuck on deadweight

  • this is a groovy song

  • ..and on the streets they reek of tropical goats.

  • Hey, remember the days before iTunes and other internet music stores? I sure do. I bought this album just.for.this.song. Can't say it was the best $17.99 I ever spent, but at least it's a good song.

  • mmm, i know what you mean, but mutations is an awesome album, i'll put it in second place, after mellow gold

  • Ok Beck, I love your music. But this influence (in this song) is much more to "samba-rock" by Jorge Benjor than "Tropicália" (60's brazilian musical movement).

  • Haha I'm sure Beck's got it under his hat. He is or at least used to be a huge fan of Tropicalia, and has said one of his favorite bands was Os Mutantes. Perhaps his purpose wasn't to write a straight-out tropicalia tune? I can feel some tropicalia in here though. Can't say I listen to much "samba-rock", however

  • @TROPICALRAPTURE does it fucking matter

  • Best album! Is it a monkey with a cerated stick in a bottle...

  • great influence of mutants ...

Brazilian music ... there's no better

  • All of Beck's songs are great

  • the noise in the background sounds like a straw being slid up in down in a drink cup...lol

  • And thats pretty much it, its called Cuica...

    often used on brazilian sambas...

  • @fashionandmusic921 It's a cuica, often called 'the laughing drum' for the sound.

  • @nuevarine - hey thanks for that, always wondered what that instrument was called.

  • @fashionandmusic921 it is. it imitates the sound of the brazilian instrument the ciúca.

  • i love this song, but people say its the best beck song.dont get me wrong, this is a great song, but some better beck songs are "Loser", "Where It's At", "Sexx Laws", and "Devil's Haircut".

  • i'm just saying that they make a big deal of this, saying it's the best. sure, it might be the best on Mutations (I like Bottle of Blues a bit more though) and what do you mean 'generic person'? Generic people don't like beck because they haven't heard of him other than Loser and mabye Where its at

  • ill take it a step further , bottle of blues is alot better - but his best shit is off of one foot in the grave

  • It's a combination of sarcasm and love of Beck. I call him a generic person because he names Beck's four most popular songs as his best. Which makes me frown like a clown goin' down on the town

  • what the hell? these lyrics are SO wrong!!!

  • Oh crap, you're right. I accidentally put in the lyrics from "We Live Again" off the same album instead of Tropicalia. *Fixed

  • Best song on Mutations

second best is bottle of blues

  • Hey man! I've always felt the same way. I used to only like three songs off the album, but these days I love the whole album. It was

    1st-Tropicalia

    2nd-Bottle of Blues

    3rd-O Maria

  • @multivitamins4all

guys!! what about "Nobody's Fault But My Own???" am i the only one that loves Beck's more somber and soulful songs most??

  • @punkguyrich no, i love every beck song, except probably for some songs on midnite vultures and the information... but no doubt, beck is my favorite artist ever

  • then Dead Melodies is 3rd, I think for me..

  • correction...I meant SIng it Again

  • @cheeseburgerInc

guys!! what about "Nobody's Fault But My Own???" am i the only one that loves Beck's more somber and soulful songs most??

  • @cheeseburgerInc My FAV-O-Rite is the bonus track dawg, top 3 possobley?

  • this song should be a single

  • It was a single - released on 7" with Halo of Gold as the b-side and on CD with Halo of Gold and Black Balloon both as b-sides.

  • love this song
