How about downshifting to a lower gear if it's an automatic.

actually downshifting does nothing in an automatic car, its the same as drive. if you downshift to L, all it does is keeps the transmission in 1st gear and it won't shift to second. if you select 2, the transmission will start in 1 and will then shift to 2nd, but won't shift beyond that, so really its the same as drive.

shifting into 2 only works on a manual car

My 85 Oldsmobile REgency 98, has front wheel drive and I have been in snow worse than that, at least a foot and half deep and still gotten out. This guy has either bad tires, or the car is too light so that the tires can't grip enough to get traction. GET TO KNOW YOUR CARS BEFORE YOU BAD MOUTH AND WANT TO TALK CRAP!!!! 8-)

the higher the revs the more you get stuck.. you´re just making the snow to ice... ever heard of M+S tyres.. in snow never rev higher than just keeping the engine turned on.. if you´d done that and have had wintertyres on, you would have gotten out... p.s great sound from the engine... and nice car...

i had a 1970 Nissan 240Z, all muscle, RWD. one time i tried to pull out of my parking spot in the snow. i put it in gear and got no where, so i left it in gear, wheels spinning in show, and started pushing. it took off without me. i wish there was video of me chasing it down and hopping in the open door :-)
