  • iPad + iPhone + FaceTime + Siri. Pretty amazing. At the same time, it's interesting to look at where the forecast is off. Today's hardware is much better (hi-res displays, smaller cameras, sleeker frames, USB thumb drives (or even better, wireless networking and cloud storage)), whereas on the software side a lot of this is still science fiction. Siri isn't nearly as good as this virtual assistant, and today's software programs can't compose content on the level shown here.

  • True evidence of how forward-thinking the Apple people have always been.

  • \(^o^)/

  • All this from one of the greatest minds to ever live. He was truly the Edison or Einstein of our time.

    RIP Steve Jobs.

    Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @Blaxxx2 Sorry to burst your bubble, but Jobs left Apple in 1985 and, in fact, the Knowledge Navigator idea was the predecessor to the Newton which was Sculley's baby. After his return to Apple Jobs immediately killed the Newton because he hated it and Sculley. It is amazing thought to see how close this is to today's iPad and the iPhone with Siri.

  • iPad, Siri, FaceTime hehe^^

  • MS always fail? US$ 56 billion (Bill Gate's money) is a big fail for me.

  • iPhone Siri!!!!!

  • Now I see why Steve died... its bcuz nobody would ask him about this commercial... how could this predict so much.. even Siri ?!

  • It's Mark Zuckerberg's dad

  • @shyguy345 and also bill nye the science guy

  • This idea is completely obvious. Saying that Apple somehow invented it is just plain wrong. People have been talking to their computers in sci-fi for ages, e.g. Star trek. Go read neuromancer.

  • (1987: un sueño, 2011: el último producto presentado por steve jobs antes de morir)

"Hay una fuerza motriz más poderosa que el vapor, la electricidad y la energía atómica: la voluntad." EINSTEIN

  • We're really getting there but i miss the AI, my computer is still too stupid...

  • Visionary! The world will miss Steve!

  • Kubrick has created the iPad

  • OMG STEVE!

  • Great Steve

  • the technology of now will be released in 25/30 years thats how it works. the ipod and iphones we have now are actually prototype for an iphone after 5/10 years. they can release it immediately but they wouldnt make so much money.

  • fake

  • Siri!

  • In 1987 Apple made the Knowledge Navigator movie. Steve was The Navigator. The siri function was introduced the day he died in the iPhone4S. For me the S stands for Steve.

  • @keeswibra Yup. And the illuminaties are gonna kill us all.

  • iPad, Siri/VoiceOver, Facetime/Skype, Google Search, Google Maps/Earth, Wikipedia, Blogs…

  • RIP steve jobs <3 Your dream came true the day before your death ...

  • Creepy but amazing

  • Steve Job's dream fulfilled.

  • @shyguy345 More like Facetime

  • When did Apple hire Bill Nye?

  • @romeskinner

since they all joined 'liberals anonymous'

  • Its like they knew... oh wait, its apple of course they did

  • A vision of what 'Ask Jeeves' could have been

  • Siri!

  • The question, of course, is why doesn't his digital assistant give the lecture?

  • deforestation, at that time not such an issues, today it is, also a good prediction by apple!

  • Apple is fkn great.

  • Bow ties are cool

  • @shyguy345 and NOW count Siri onto it :) he even predicted the right year (2011)

  • My god, it even predicted the correct year - guy makes article five years ago, computer tells article was written in 2006. :O Steve Jobs is a prophet.

  • Oh Siri you have changed.

  • This is so freaky wi Siri released today

  • Bill Nye your moms a guy

  • Is that Bill Nye the science guy???

  • "Contact Jill.' Great Sentence.

  • This vid is a beauty. I vividly remember my first MacPlus which I bought that year, 1 MB ram, and no harddisk. But true wysiwyg and a first taste of things to come. And a user experience beyond anything else.

  • The IPAD

  • Man, but look at the hinges on that thing. Built like a Volvo. And are those beverage holders left and right? How come my iPad doesn't come with beverage holders?!

  • Is it me or does that seem like the iPad? (Witch is just like the iPod touch)

  • Interesting. We didn't get exactly this but Apple wasn't far off at all with what we could do with computers in 2010. Shows just how long they've been thinking of doing this.

  • Ahh... child's play.

Don't you guys realize that from an engineering perspective, there is plenty of excess waste here? I know it's only a concept, but even today we have crap loaded up that never gets used. For example, look at the top row (file, network, tools, etc.). Not once in the entire video did he use it. The main interface seems to be a humanized "clippy" on steroids. The menus that WERE used looked awfully confusing, and wouldn't a desktop be antiquated in the face of HAL here?

  • This was designed by the best marketing team in the world: Apple's. This is NOT a compliment fan-boys. There's still a lot of work to be done on making computers that "just work".

  • Too bad the makers of thsi video didn't watch more Blade Runner - they'd have nailed it.

  • LOL it's 2010 in the video, and the desktop is black and white!

  • There had to be a webcam somewhere...how else would he communicate with his colleague about her new research?

  • Hehe, now it's quite real, but they forgot to include the webcam. ;)

  • @NeoVanGoth: It clearly has a web cam — top left, huge round thing that looks like the eye on R2D2 or HAL. The woman was looking up his nose the whole conversation and he didn't even realise. That's why FaceTime gives you a picture of yourself now.

  • Now thats just missing the point, Star Trek TNG is a fiction set in the far, far future. This is set in the forceable future. No dilithium crystals

  • Yawn. I saw vastly better stuff on Star Trek TNG. Same year.

  • Apple owns. Always has, always will

  • Let's hope the Microsoft ads work though, because then Apple will have to lower the prices of their notebooks more.

  • trippy

  • Are you for real? 15 years ago Apple has the concept for a device that MS is soon bringing to market and SOMEHOW you think MS BEAT Apple? Seems to me they copied a 15 year old idea (fact) and are about to fail again (opinion) like they always do (fact). And calling Apple "clowns" negates your whole point (fact), because name calling is a substitute for shallow thought (also a fact) You sir... are kind of dumb (fact).

  • @zackgreer lol, everything you stated is also opinion

  • @zackgreer kiss my ass (opinion) suckin my dick (fact) while squeezing ur mothers tits (fact).

    fuck off! (opinion)

  • @zackgreer Are you suggesting Apple never copy ideas?

  • WTF? Is that Bill Nye the Science Guy?

  • That's what i thought first time I saw this video back in the nineties.

  • Amazing. Dreams come true.

  • Wow, I'm honestly starting to think apple is run by space aliens. The guys are way ahead of their time!

  • What, no ipod? What kind of dull future is that?

  • Is that Steve Jobs delivering the messages?

  • Steve Jobs was at NeXT—not Apple—in 1987.

  • Man this is COOL. Bring it into the 21st Century (put in today's hardware) and it's much cooler than a BIG-ASS table.

  • I agree, but I really don't want my computer talking to me.

  • Wow, that is some insight. A little more personal though. And now we take it with us rather than leave it behind. Cool though.
