  • 5:22 naughty naughty matt you swore! YOU WHISPERED TO YOUR SELF "F*c*ing hell!"

  • @drenahmeti22 WHOOPS! Yes, I noticed I didn't bleep that one out! Apologies and it's not like me to swear, but this was kind of an extreme situation...! :D I'd just climbed up a broken ladder that wasn't attached to the wall, only the base, the whole place was freeking me out and there was pigeon poo everywhere!! HEHE!

    Do you forgive me? :)

  • @mrmattandmrchay well duh! yes youre one of my best friends on yt i dont care if people swear i just wanted to point it out.i dont mind people swearing just if they dont swear to me PS: LOL at your big HEHE!

  • @drenahmeti22 i was brought up to respect anyone until such time as they no longer deserve your respect.

I also pride myself on helping and wanting to help people, because it makes me happy when others are happy. Guess it was just the way I was brought up.

What's your real name by the way, mine's Matt or Matthew believe it or not! hehe!

Yeah, I know your either gonna say "mine's drenah or metti believe it or not!" lol

  • @mrmattandmrchay mines actually Dren (first name) Ahmeti (last name)

  • @mrmattandmrchay PS: i know your full name just by watching your videos! :O

  • @mrmattandmrchay bad news they changed the code on the evans and changed the call pad to a stainless steel pad so i don't know the code.... PS: i'm not in reading at the mo im not there until 3rd sep OMG!

  • Love this video :)

What is wrong with the city centre? (I live in New Zealand note :) )

Just a note about the floor selectors, you could have pressed on on the floor selector relay board. I completely doubt anything was live, for if it was, there'd be no shit from birds etc (Think EMF radiation from high current sources like lift's n stuff)

Fl Selectors (how to): Landing num + c for call + u or d for which dir but you can just press '1c' for example. The 1u or 1d relays are logic assisting :)

  • @produKtNZ Hi, thanks! The city centre is stuck in the 70s. All major shops have moved away and favoured nearby towns with new shopping malls. Noone chooses Bracknell as their shopping detination, There are BIG plans to redevelop, but with the resession and "getting people back" when there are much better places to shop is the problem. Our town was redeveloped 2 years ago-big cost, but it needed it.

But it's good for me though!! Bracknell is still no.1 place to find old lifts!! Continued...

  • @produKtNZ Yes, from watching other vids I've learnt that the relays latch on the selector and can be pushed (I know about voltages, 110v I think is here(won't purposely touch connections)

When I was here, sounds like coming up the stairs - it wasn't, but you know when you are in place where you shouldn't be, your mind is more alert!? Just wanted to get the filming done and get out of there! Yes, understand the labeling (usually 3 rlys per floor -car/landing up/landing down).

    (continued2..)

  • @produKtNZ (2) Did you see...

    watch?v=CeXO935mk6E

No future visits planned now!! But I'll remember the relays for if I get to a selector again!

  • @produKtNZ You would be able to hear the faint electrical hum if anything was live...

  • I really like your videos man! I just can't get enought of them!

I have a request for you. I was wondering if you could some how gain access to the old "3M" buliding in Bracknell. i've always wanted to know what it looks like inside. My friends have also told me there are some vintage lifts in there, which is one of the main reasons why i've always wanted to get in there. And i'd also just like to say, i really admire you for going up into that pigeon infested motor room. Thanks and pls reply.

  • @Drogba254 Cool, thanks for the compliment!

Getting into the 3M building, you know, secretly I was hoping that this video might have inspired someone else to have gone in there! I'd love to explore that building to find the lifts and motor room, take photos, etc. Entering this building and being caught just isn't worth thinking about-I'd loose my job. Besides, the easy access shown here has since been boarded up properly! How i'd love to explore this building!

    Thanks for comment,

    Matt

  • I like this alot, i noticed you were shaking a lot, i can't blame you

  • @ahocknul04 Yes, you're right I was. At one stage I thought someone was coming up the stairs whilst I was in the motor room as I thought I could hear noises from the stairwell (wasn't anyone there though).

Was really glad to get out of there, but even more glad that I did it and filmed that motor room - I would have been disappointed for months to follow if I hadn't got the courage to go up there. This was actually my 2nd visit, the first time I didn't go up. Matt

  • @ahocknul04 Check this one out.... (it's my other favourite)

    watch?v=Oqi0WX1aYCA

Here are the lifts before they were demolished...(low quality video though)

    watch?v=ZvMhvTocjgs

  • That was freaking terrifying. The setting plus the distressed breathing and increasingly alien landscape.. You should direct horror!

  • @hyphz I didn't enjoy filming it, but glad I did it! I'm always eager to film this sort of stuff, but at the time it's nerve racking to think of what might happen, get caught, etc. Enjoyed editing it the most and posting it on YT! Thanks for comment

  • i'm unable to watch this vid it won't play, i liked the other vids though

  • @mayorip Try it again, works ok for me

  • I keep forgetting to mention your foot - hope it gets better soon!

  • Thanks Will.

I'm glad you liked the video. Actually, I didn't really enjoy filming it at the time, as this place is really creepy and I didn't know who (if anyone) I might come across.

There was no chance that I was hanging around to get bits!

As far as I know it's still there, and until Bracknell town centre's redevelopment plans are in action, it will probably be there for some time yet.

Did you see my 'sainsbury car park during demolishion' video? Wish I had some bits from there!

  • oh yeah... "me" get some?!! ;-)

  • I do not see this car park having much life in the future and I expect it to be demolished soon.

  • You can get into the motor room. But can you turn on the motors I'd love to see them working. Did u say they are OTIS lifts. Shame good type of lift. Please try to turn them on.

  • Check out 5:20, you'll see the 415V supply boards-most of it is missing! Without replacement parts, there is no way to power up this motor room. There is probably no voltage up here anyhow, as the lifts have been out of service for more than 10 years.

The safety circuits will be open, as some of the landing doors are not shut.

Still, would be great to power this lot up and see what happens! Would probably pop a few fuses for a start!! Would be interesting to film though!

    Thanks for comment.

  • Yeh cool. I know it's a stupid thing to ask. But do you know anyone in the electrical buisness. Lol. Cos like I said before it would be absoloutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Thanks for reply. See I dont know much about lifts or the components although I'm interested in them. But do you need 100% of the components for the lifts to run. Yeh I also had a look at the part at 5:20. Are they just fuses or what thats missing. Did you try turning them on. Pure insanity but still.

  • Quite a few reasons why not...

Bits missing-probably obsolete as was from 60/70s, the cost to replace parts, dealing with 412V 3-phase mains - this is not like your household 240v-this is serious stuff and will kill instantly if touched, inability to isolate 412V supply from elsewhere, the massive drop onto concrete floor in front of mains board, written permission to proceed with work, the high risk of a fire, motors' probably seized & the HIGH risk of death!!

In other words, no, no, no!!

  • This motor room is almost the same as the one in this video... Check it out!

    watch?v=MXD5RyhfCpY

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice fim old greepy place there..

  • this video wasexcellent i really enjoyed it! i always wanted to go inside it as a child so thanks, also wen u look out of the window at 3:44 the round part of the car park can be seen and thats where the left for dead graffiti was! have you done a tour inside the 3m building? that would be awesome!!

  • Thanks for the comment. This is one of my favourite adventures.

Getting into the 3M building is a little 'big time' for me! I'd love to explore this though. Those windows are boarded up now, so much more difficult to get in. I wait in hope that someone else has filmed it and shared on youtube!

  • The Gateshead Multi Storey Car Park Or The Get Carter Car Park Used Old Otis Lifts Like These

  • Yeah, you're right. Did you know there is a photo of the motor room of one of those lift shafts on flickr. If you haven't seen it (and would like to!) then I'll put a link to it here.

  • If Its This Lift Shaft I Have Seen It.

  • No, there is a photo of the lift motor room at the 'Get Carter' car park in Gateshead.

  • This parking garage has a new elevator?

  • No, it's almost derelict (abandoned). The lifts are closed off.

Only the ground floor is used by a building next door. Upper floors are closed by big gates - see 0:53.

There are plans to knock the whole town centre down and redevelop it. I would imagine this car park would also be knocked down. But due to the recession, who knows when this massive rebuilding project will start.

  • You really did risk your life in filming this for the sake of YouTube and the Elevator Community, and, I must say what a great video this is. It clearly shows what lift technology was like before the 1980's: Old, reliable relays, and floor selectors which I find much better than the "computerised" lift controls of today. 5 stars all the way.

  • Thanks! I'd do it again as well, I'm getting into this derelict building/car park business! It takes me back to my childhood when the lifts were all like this. Would love to have been with the commissioning team to commission a lift like this - must have taken ages to set up the otis levelling cam thing. There is also a cartridge that drags up and down a frame that lights up the car position indicators - great stuff!

  • It was a pleasure, I wasn't actually going to go into the motor room that day, I was going to put the camera on a long pole and push it up the motor room hatch, so I didn't have to go up. But in the end I just though "just get up there!".

Was a bit dodgy standing on the edge of the motor room hatch though! Also, check out at 4:49 - quite a drop at the top of the ladder on the outside of the window.

I would do it again though.

  • Amazing how some of those doors are even missing! That must be one huge liability!!! It's quite sad to see abandoned places like that, especially when they've been heavily vandalized.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean, but if the place hadn't been abandoned then those lifts would have been modernised years ago. At least abandoned lifts stay as they are. I don't know about you, but I find old lifts facinating, I'm not really into the modern generation.

In fact, I'd love to visitianother place like this given the opportunity, looking back it was quite an adventure!

BTW, this video is a MUST if your into the older Otis generation...

    watch?v=MXD5RyhfCpY

  • Looks like the place has just about had it.. Nice video .

  • Those elevators with the galss windows look ezactly the same as my Kleeman elevator in roomes in upminster, I think mabey the kleeman is thought to be an otis, this one.

  • Yes, I see what you mean, but in the 60s/70s a lot of lifts around this time had windows in the doors.

    Don't see many nowadays.

I went to a building today which I knew had a lift like your video of the upminster rooms. I had my camera ready to film, but the damn things been modernised and all the original fittings are gone!! Now it's all the usual buttons and displays that you can find everywhere...

  • ...I was so disappointed that I had to get a coffee and a giant cake to make me happy again!

    Thanks for your comment.

  • oh, Mabey if you know what the kleman websie is and phone number is you could ring them and ask if hey know where any of there lifts are. Oh and I forgot to say i the other comment that you are so cool togo up in the machine room even know you shouldn't be there, and actuall filmed the motor room and that's why it's eserved a 5*

  • The whole building was eeary and it was not the sort of place that I wanted to stay in for long (prob druggies use it). I went there a month before this but didn't go up.

On this visit, I had the intention of putting the camera on a long pole to take some photos through the hatch, whilst I was standing on the top floor. In the end I just thought, "Matt, just get up there!!".

It would have bugged me all evening if I hadn't done so! Glad I did!

Thanks as always for your comments Harri.

  • Wow, that's a great video, very well done and the captions are good too. Shame about all the Pigeon mess though! I'm not an expert but that lift installation definitely late 1960s as the building where I work (1969) has almost identical equipment. The building itself also looks late 60s. By the 70s, cladding things in brick had become more fashionable than bare concrete.

  • Yeah, back in 60s/70s car parks were made to be functional rather than look good. Metal cladding on the spiral vehicle exit is a classic!

As it happens, Bracknell have big town centre redevelopment plans. This car park IS ON the new plans. Surely this is a knock down and rebuild job!? On the plans they were going to redevelope it.

  • what is a DC GENERATOR?

  • a DC Generator is like a conventional petrol driven electric generator, except the petrol engine is replaced by a motor, and it produces DC instead of AC.

AC electricity comes into the building, but it is not the ideal power to run lift motors. Lift motors are faster and easier to control on DC (direct current).

Most things in your house are DC... TVs, PCs, even down to your phone charger. Electric arrives at your house (mains) as AC, as AC is ideal at travelling longer distances.

  • So in summary: A "DC generator" is a unit that generates a DC current to run the lift motor (and makes a loud noise when it is running!)

See this movie from Sav (Rizzbriff)... watch?v=ztsdxeNT59o

...you can hear a DC generator starting up and running at 0:48 seconds

  • oke

  • do you work for otis,,, if so could you tell me where any gen2 lifts are in sunderland (uk) as i love them!!

  • No, I am an engineer but I don't work in the lift industry. Relays and mechanical devices used in lifts I find interesting and fasinating. Nowadays, everything is microprocessors and you see a circuit board, lifts before about 1985 didn't have hardly any microprocessors, they had to use relays, like this lift does. With relays you can see what is happening and you can try and work it out (don't touch when live though! - relays run at 110volts).

I'm not so keen on the modern stuff as(cont...)

  • all lifts see to look and feel simular. There is not much to look at when looking at a circuit board, but this...

    watch?v=MYuyv4-QR0g

    or this...

    watch?v=ztsdxeNT59o

    facinating!

Sunderland, you are fairly near to Gateshead, did you ever get to ride those old Otis lifts in the famous car park ("get carter" car park, as it's known)? I'm in High Wycombe.

  • no but ill try

  • >no but ill try.

    >did you ever get to ride those old Otis lifts in the famous car park ("get carter" car park, as it's known)

This car park is either closed to the public or has already been knocked down! Wondered if you ever went there.

  • The Car Park Is Still There. As A Matter Of Fact I Went And Got Some Pictures :)

  • Did you go inside the car park?

The car park will probably be there for some time yet, there are plans to redevelop all of Bracknell town centre, but they are on hold due to the current financial situation in the UK. It's a long term project anyhow, so if it DOES start, it's still going to be years!

Not sure if they will demolish just this car park on it's own without being part of the big redevelopment plans. If you've seen Bracknell town centre, you'll see why (or see my other YT videos!)

  • Did you upload these photos anywhere so we can see?

  • No But Probably Later Or Tomorrow I Will Upload Them In A Video To Youtube Using PhotoStory :)

  • cool

  • your in high wycombe???? me too mate now i know im not into lifts like you are but big empty spaces that i can fly or drive RC Gear in while filming :) wanna link up?

  • Bloody 'ell - all this sort of stuff used to be brand new and what the future was going to be like.

  • "Tower of Terror" LOL

  • The good thing is, when the lifts are abandoned they don't get modernised!

I'm not a great fan of all this 'gen2' or 'ecodisc' stuff that doesn't need a separate motor room. All lifts these days look and ride the same, the older generation (60s-90s) have personalities! I'm still looking for classic Bennie lifts, H+C, as well as others.

  • The thing is, I'm starting to get into the derelict building thing! Interesting to see 60s/70s technology frozen in time. That damn pigeon in the cabinet (at 5:31) sh*t me up! Check out them flies and the 5 floor drop just by the top of the loose ladder! Wonder would would have happened if I could have powered up the room!

  • you should've press the lift call button and saw what happened

  • Nah, nothing would have happened - some idiots pushed the stop button on top of the lift car (otherwise it would work fine)

  • Great vid,

You have invented the elevators archeology.

They're controllers Otis, machines AT with CC motors an generators CC.

  • What installation year do you think? I estimate about 1975?
