I am not saying i would or wouldnt could have put myself in this situation however you should realise that thousands of couples meet online and plenty of people make friends where nothing goes wrong. Obviously it would have been a little smarter to meet in a public place but i guess if you figure your not meeting to make friends or dating and your led to believe someone else will be there then your judgement is pretty harsh.
adn yes my judgement is quite harsh. I for one have met people online, and i guess the idea of stranger danger was not so prominent during that time, and luckily for me nothing went wrong, and you are right, the internet is a great way to make friends and this is just one bad incident amongst countless good ones.
nevertheless, people regardless internet or not should be a bit more aware of the dangers of the world in general.
If anything this tragedy highlights the false sense of security of social communication via the internet-we are likely to reveal more of ourselves via this medium than say face-to-face and miss out on vital communication eg body language.

It's very tragic, but ANY time you meet a total stranger anywhere you take the risk of that total stranger because a total wack-job. so sorry for this poor girl and her family. i work in hk and my gov school allows students to use fb and other social networking sites. you can imagine how many times i bang my head against the wall in total frustration and bewilderment. it happened in the uk early this year to a 17 yr old girl. exactly the same story. fb, myspace etc are a paradise for perverts. this is an important time in the evolution of the web and i have absolutely no idea what is going to happen next.

I am not saying i would or wouldnt could have put myself in this situation however you should realise that thousands of couples meet online and plenty of people make friends where nothing goes wrong. Obviously it would have been a little smarter to meet in a public place but i guess if you figure your not meeting to make friends or dating and your led to believe someone else will be there then your judgement is pretty harsh.

adn yes my judgement is quite harsh. I for one have met people online, and i guess the idea of stranger danger was not so prominent during that time, and luckily for me nothing went wrong, and you are right, the internet is a great way to make friends and this is just one bad incident amongst countless good ones.
nevertheless, people regardless internet or not should be a bit more aware of the dangers of the world in general.

If anything this tragedy highlights the false sense of security of social communication via the internet-we are likely to reveal more of ourselves via this medium than say face-to-face and miss out on vital communication eg body language.
