I am mildly amused by the amount of anguish the Argentines still have about this war. I don't think they had the right for anguish in the first place, what with being an unprovoked invader, but for 30 years later still having a daily trumpet calls for the Argentine losses; ridiculous to the point of hilarity.
Step on Britain's arse and Britain will shove a beyonet up yours.
Just seen it on BBC4 - what an incredible film! Brilliant in direction, acting, filming - and a biting indictment of Thatcher and her government! Thanks again for posting it here.
When the cries of FIX BAYONETS!! rang out on the cold plains of the Falklands you can be assured that the enemy could taste the fear has the Brits got down to the dirty task in hand....there are no good wars and they leave people destroyed physically and mentally.
Sovereignity issues with Britain had been discussed for more than 150 years. The dictatorship that seized Argentina from '76 to '82 is ultimately responsible for that nonsensical war. But fortunately, all those dictators were convicted and have a life sentence by the argentine law. It's been 30 years already. Time to go back where both countries would sit and talk.
good anti-war movie - Robert Lawrence hemiparalysed - but well-in shape after half his brains were shot away- brave to fight the responsibles -those sitting in safe armchairs: ordering the killing, watching, might be winning battles, and then denying any failures (even if these includes own wounded soldiers only ;-(
@ferni1glass yo hablo que no son toda la vida para los britanicos tonto, y a que te refieres conque siria y asia es un aliado??, y cuando respondas un comentario enemigo de Argentina hacelo con agresividad, saludos
no we claimed in 1690 when they where unihabited then we and french settledown french leave and spain outnumbered us off the islands then in 1811 handed them to you then you left for a year then returned then in 1833 america destroyed your base as your where pirating their ships they offered it to us when we get there your back so we make you leave and british since then so we where first there and are last there if anyone is beig an imperial colonist its argentina
Did you read the history of your old country? Malvinas is part of Argentina and South America, since it become independent from Spain 200 years ago, it is not part of the UK nor Europe.
@malvreb Actually, it IS part of the UK (no one is claiming Europe) whether you think that is legal or illegal, IT IS PART OF THE UK but the debate is if it should or should not be part. If it is not part of the UK the government people and UN seem to have other ideas. I'm simply saying, even if you believe it is illegal, it still is part of the UK.
@malvreb That's what I'm saying, even if you believe it is illegal, it is still part of the UK, distance is not a factor in this, political control is. It is part of the UK because the UK administers it. If a country needs to deal with the Falklands it contacts the UK, not Argentina because it is British territory (even if it is illegal or not). The islands use the British flag as they are part of the UK. I am not saying this is legal or illegal just that this is currently the case. Understand?
go die u argie bastard, leave the past behind you we claimed them in the 1600s, and if you invaded again well, lets just say Ive done my research on Wikipedia and it looks like we, The United Kingdom Of Great Britain, have a navel force over 5 times the size of the Argentine navy. so id say you would get jolly well destroyed.
@Rentaghost76 You're right to say that, international law works by how many times people can say what they believe. If you say it again I have no doubt the British will give in.
I respect all of the men who fought against unlawful Argentine aggression. I hope Robert Lawrence is doing ok.
What angers me most about the Falklands War is all of the bleeding heart weeping over the General Belgrano. Give me a break.
What everyone forgets is that the Argentine Government was in 82 a Brutal Dictatorship that killed thousands of its own people as well as staring an unprovoked war in the South Atlantic.
Guards were considered better, big robust men were recruited into the guards in the 80's. The rifles didn't even exist then anyway. The Rifles were made up of several other regiments in the 90's.
Obviously they were better since Paras, Marines, Guards and Gurkhas went down south and the chippy RGJ stayed at home. I'd only use the fucking RGJ if I needed to murder a woman with a shovel.
Units are never chosen on an individual basis to go to war. WG and SG were sent to the Falklands because they happened to be in the same infantry brigade which was chosen for the Task Force. There were no rifle and highland regiments in the brigade and hence none was sent.
No they where picked , because of the old boy network. Read Unorthodox soilder, By Lt. Col. Tim Spicer OBE, he admits it. also Mj Gen, Moore states as such.
because the SG's and WG's were on public duties in london at the time and therefore not attached to the british army of the rhine, or assigned as reinforcments to them. the government did not weaken BAOR during the war because of the soviet threat at the time
I guess it depended on which regiment was not busy at the time. The Royal Marines and the two para battalions were always going to do the bulk of the fighting, so the others were just what was available at the particular time.
Ive actually been on MT Tumbledown when my unit was in the falklands (not the war i was 11 at the time) i think its the largest feature of all the mountains on east falkland,

How terrible! I didn't realise the scale of abuse. I am sorry. I think all Colin Firth fans will now see this, from the US to Romania, Turkey, Poland and Australia! Let's hope so, well done.
