  • Very nice work as on all your videos. Can you tell me what wood was used to make these bowls. And how they are protected not to crack after turning?

  • @Bushwhittler

The wood is Beach. Dry at a low temp and over a long period.

  • thank you, very intresting

  • Very interesting. Would you take the time to make a video showing the different lathe and hand tools used to make these bowls?

  • where can we find the instructions to build the foot powered lathe? Thanks!

  • For the first time in my life I understand why wood bowls come in sets of 3 :)

Awsome video, thanks so so much for sharing.

  • Thanks for your comment

  • this is true caftmanship at its best, all by hand with heart and soul, not some machine press out 100 an hour. i tip my hat to you sir.

  • Thanks for taking the time to comment

  • most lovely! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Your comment is appreciated.

  • danm thats cool!!!

  • Another awesome video. How about doing on on making and using a shaving horse and tips on using a drawknife? Please!!! Me thinks you should be knighted for all of the shows and demos you do. Think of all the knowledge that is being shared, especially for the children. Truly unselfish. Thank you.

  • Thanks for your comments.

  • Beautiful. I love all of the hand work before and after.

I'm very curious about the tool you're using to core out the bowl blanks. As a powered woodturner and amateur blacksmith, I'd be interested to try my hand at forging one. Can you give me any info on it?

  • Thanks for your comment. As regards the tool. I bought it at a craft show.

  • It's hard to see in the video - what kind of tool is it? Is there a picture of it online somewhere? Thanks!

  • Check out a youtube video called Turning Ale Bowls. At the 00:48sec mark you will see a good selection of tools. Good Luck.

  • Thank you. Was the one on the far left the one you were using to cut behind the bowls to separate them?

  • More like the one third from left.

  • Another great video! I really appreciate you posting these.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of a spring pole lathe vs. a treadle lathe? I have noticed that most green woodworkers using human-powered lathes tend towards the pole lathe.

  • Once again, thanks for your comment. I can see no advantages or disadvantages. You could probable use a million and one things. It all comes down to space and preferance - at least for me does.
