  • Pitbull ad at the start? U serious?

  • One of my favorite shows of all time, snapcase, quicksand, deftones 1997.

  • @oaktubs That was ab epic tour!!!!! I grew up in the Buffalo Hardcore scene watching Snapcase!!!

  • @oaktubs I don't know Snapcase but for sure Quicksand and Deftones fuzz you as hell with that pounding bass, stoner guitar and heavy drums!

  • looooooooooveley bass tone

  • this would be a lot more enjoyable if katy perry wasn't watching it with me.

  • Why the fuck is Justin Bieber on before this song?

  • Classic, such a great band. The 90's and early 2000's really had the best hard rock and metal.

  • The album "Slip" is one of THE most underrated albums of the 90s. More powerful and groundbreaking than Nirvana's "Nevermind", IMO.

  • Quicksand Slip cover to cover AMAZING! ............LIVE even better. Praying that Capone, Cage, Schrieffels, and Vega can find a way to get back together and tour one last time. Check Rival Schools for Walters latest work.

  • Sergio Vega is the man!

  • @LOLukeJamieson

i saw him with the deftones this summer. fucking amazing show at the house of blues in boston.

  • saw these guys open for Rage Against The Machine in '94 @ First Ave in Minneapolis for $10! Best dollar ever spent, EVER!!

  • The Damned Things covered this song last night in Glasgow. Crowd loved it. o/

  • Saw these guys open for Rage Against The Machine @ First Ave- Minneapolis in '94, best $10 I've ever spent. Too bad they fell apart. Walter's new gig Rival Schools is a bit of a change from Quicksand but rocks none the less!

  • When life gets bad for me, I have to remember that there was once a band called Quicksand and an album called Slip which could blast all pain away with the power of their Fender strats and Marshall amps.

  • @jasonolds442 What are you talking about, dude? The main guitars used on their albums were Gibsons. Walter used a Les Paul.

  • @KristopheTheSaint Every time I saw Quicksand (5 times) Walter used both Fender and Gibsons back and forth, Tom Capone used a Jaguar almost exclusively except for one Warped tour show where I saw him rocking a PRS. Many of the lead tones on Slip and Manic Compression come from a Fender guitar through a Rat pedal, which, if set correctly can sound as thick as a Gibson thru a Marshall, but with a lot of the weird overtones and feedback you'd lose if you used hum-cancelling pickups.

  • Saw Rival Schools last week. They were awesome. He's still got it.

  • yep couture's prediction background music

  • When I first heard them this was track that made me think these guys were on to

something different. Not many bands were doing odd meter songs that had this type of sound and flow. It sucks that they broke up!!

  • @actionpending2010 Yeah it does suck, But Walter has a few other bands currently including Rival Schools that is touring right now.

  • Great album!!

  • I remember seeing these guys opening for Helmet at the old 930 club in Washington Dc back in 93, the Slip album was being promoted. I still remember that show to this day. Thats how good the Slip album really is. Those songs railed live just took over that room!

  • @jasonpeng1 I may have been at that very same show. Helmet, Quicksand and the 3rd band was named Crawlpappy. However, my ticket stub says Wed Aug 19, 1992 (not '93) and that was back when the 930 was tiny and smelled like a party all the time. Great show for both Helmet and Quicksand.. I don't much remember Crawlpappy though.

  • @jasonpeng1 dude, reminds me when I saw these dudes on the first Warped tour,1995 in Nhamp, mass (headliner of course!!!) rocking the Smiths' How soon is now.....Fn rockD!!! N about 1.5 year earlier (maybe) opening for RAGE at UMASS, Amherst.....insane show!!!!!.....great band!

  • Metaaaaaaal !!!

  • Back when I was a kid, I loved some Quicksand, both albums. I think they, along with bands like Helmet, Soundgarden and TOOL really had a groove to them that defined the evolution of hard rock in the 90's. I consider Quicksand a major influence on my industrial/metal band No More People. You can click my name to say our music video for "In The Dollar We Trust."

  • ha ha lol these guys are cool i want to be able to be in a post grunge band even though its out of fashion lol i dont give a shit. The only problem is i don't know how to write grunge songs like whats the whole point behind em ya know lol

  • coooool...kinda sounds like tool

  • terrible band

  • @Destr360 great use of your time and effort. give up

  • @miser42 sorry was in bad mood that day Fukin teachers!!!!! I personally didnt like this song only because of the singer hes not my favorite. the rest was fine to me.

  • I had this CD when I had just graduated High School and then I saw them open for Anthrax and White Zomble that was an awesome concert!!

  • need to find my casette for this! these guys kicked ass, need the CD!

  • I love most everything Walter does!

I'm just wondering if the drummer is one of those Hanson boys father.

  • @yuppicide1138

Hah! You don't know much about anything...That is Alan Cage, from Beyond and Burn! Credentials don't get much better than that!

  • What I want to know is what deaf, dumb and blind asshole aligns "Godsmack" with Quicksand in the search results... ------>

About all they have in common is the instruments... although I'm sure their guitars and drums cry themselves to sleep every night at the thought of having to spew more disgusting garbage like godsmack's songs. I bet they have to replace guitars constantly... not from theft but from spontaneous combustion.

  • Having to see Tinie Tempah's face on the left while i watch Quicksand is just wrong. Why the fuck can't rappers spell correctly anyway?

  • f u vevo

  • I forgot about these guys... remember being 13 when this came out. It's even better now.

  • so the bassist is with deftones now?

  • FUCK ADS

  • i dont know why this song is the most popular, they have better ones such as unfulfilled. this one's still pretty good though.

  • the problem is the hes...itation

  • Love this dude singing, awesome song. This band is like Rage's second cousin!

  • Love this dude singing, awesome song.

  • Walter Schreifels rules!!!!

  • This reminds me or Tool and Jetplane landing!

  • Just checket out this band now because Sergio Vega is replacing Chi cheng from deftones (I love deftones) and then I saw the singer from Rival Schools! Great! Sounds awesome :D

  • great band, miss the old days in Syracuse, NY , so many great bands came through. good times. shout out to all the old school hardcore kids from syracuse, you know who you are =)

  • best song ever. I am currently covering it.

  • I'm not a musician so I don"t know how to explain it correctly....but there is something about the timing or rhythm in this song that I really like.....it's extremely catchy.....very addictive song for me

  • my understanding is that they would often open with fazer and the place would go ff.

  • @jwgacyful . and it was awesome. The place would go crazy.

  • This is one of those songs that changes everything.

  • If you like Walter (singer) check out Rival Schools, and The Gorilla Biscuits.

  • @nikbelane Walter played guitar only in GB.

His newest project, Walking Concert is worth checking out though. Kind of like poppy indie pop rock.

  • having to see justin biebers face at the left when i'm watching a quicksand video is wrong.just WRONG

  • i miss 90's music ... :(

  • Please get back together Quicksand

    I love guys so much

  • One of the best bands of the early 90's... so underated and so unheard

  • I only saw the beginning of this video back when it came out b/c I was heading out. I wanted to hear the rest, b/c I knew the song kicked ass. Finally hearing all of it, 17 years later.

  • That's the most square dude ever plugging a damn phone.

  • Quicksand = the most important band to come out of the 90s.

  • Quicksand good... Vevo bad... Fuck You Vevo!

  • Saw these guys open for Rage Against the Machine in a cafeteria at UMASS in 1991. Unbelievable show....both bands were great and supporting their first albums. One of the best shows I have ever been too in a cafeteria no less.

  • @razorboy9 Once-in-a-lifetime event there.

  • quicksand are better than tool, without a doubt. they're the full package. pure art yet sounds effortless - very hard to attain, trust me. these guys are awesome!

  • Tool has been around since 1988.

  • chevelle didnt come out till the late 90's.i always thought they sounded like a fusion of tool and deftones.these guys have been around since 89 or 90.its an insult to compare anyone to chevelle, theyre alright but their pretty generic.

  • Listened to these guys in the early 90's, ya kinda Fugazi, I loved them, think I went through 3 cassettes

  • One of my all time bands. One I used to try and describe this band to people tool came up a lot for some reason even though they aren't the same at all really. i think it was due to the heavy bass line.

So under rated and a little before their time I guess, Wish they could have kept it together.

  • aint nothing like the old school

  • i looked these guys up cuz sergio vega is now the stand in bass player for deftones. glad i checked it out, this is purty fuckin sweet. 90's, please come back and rescue us!!!

  • Quicksand, Helmet and Failure were 3 of my favorite bands of that era, and seem to have been forgotten by a lot of people. I think they were very influential to many, and don't get the recognition they sometimes deserve.

  • @giantrobot9000

Couldnt agree more on those 3 bands... add Far to the list. NOBODY knows who they were, and to the uninformed, there'd be no Deftones if Far and Quicksand didn't exist! As far as Tool goes.. go back and listen to Opiate and Undertow... if i hear any Tool in this it's Aenema era, which came out about 3 years later.. the first 2 albums sound NOTHING like this

  • Tool and Quicksand sound very similar.

Anyone that listens to these groups should hear the similarities.

Listen to the Quicksand song "Omission" and tell me what you hear.

I wonder what group ripped off the other with the riff.

Maybe Tool heard Quicksand playing a gig in new York.

  • @creep4677 I hear the similarities. In regards to "Omission", I think the bass has the same chord progression as "Stinkfist". It seems that anyone that plays in drop d, or just minor key tonality gets compared to tool or whatever. Whatever the case, I think quicksand is original and authentic and that has a lot to say about any musician and the best compliment I can give other fellow musicians.

  • @creep4677, Quicksand weren't even on Tool's radar in the early 90's.

  • @creep4677

Omission was originally released in 1990. Quicksand's EP on revelation.

Tool didin't rip off that sound on stinkfist til 96.

i always felt tool was more influenced by alice in chains

  • sergio vega, the bassist, is playing with deftones right now

  • This Song Brings Back Great Memories..

  • the singer from this band started another band called Rival Schools, there debut album is a few years old but its a must have. watch the youtube video for the song "used for glue". you wont regret it!

  • These guys are pretty cool. Sounds like they may have influenced Tool. They have that whole bass groove thing going on.

  • @Drewha696, Both Tool & Quicksand came out around the same time. Tool has a more hard rock/prog rock/heavy metal thing going on. This band is just alternative metal/post-hardcore.

  • @Drewha696, Quicksand are still a great band though!

  • Their bassist is now playing for Deftones since Chi is still recovering from his car wreck/coma.

  • Sounds like Soundgarden to me...

  • lol, may want to listen again?

  • If you think this sounds like Soundgarden you need to get your hearing checked.

  • Hey Whatever happened to these guys. I love this shit!! Does anyone know what they are doing these days, any members of the band...

  • Had this album in junior highschool when it came out.

I wore out two cassettes! haha

Smart lyrics, badass sound and ingenuitive songwriting.

Note emo kids: this is how to spill guts without sounding like a spoiled little turd!

  • @nilocke Haha Nice!! I saw these dudes open for Anthrax and a then unknown White Zombie back in the day. They were even better live. Props!

  • @nilocke lmao agreed brotha! :D

  • @nilocke that the greatest dis on emo bitches. i just discoverd Quicksand and lovig each song

its like janes addict meets tool meets pearl jam

  • HELLS YEAH! THEY WERE INCREDIBLE.

like Failure, they were just too good for the mainstream. they had THE sound before TOOL. if u were in the know in the mid 90's, these guys made TOOL seem late for the party. thanx for posting:)

  • I can't really compare these guys to tool. The only thing they have in common is a lower levels of distortion on their guitars.

Tools music had more classic rock and metal influence while Quicksand was like a heavy polished Fugazi. I like quicksand alot more personally.

Seems the types of music I like the most peaked in the 90's before the download generation had their way.

Now music companies can't make money off of anything that isn't mega commercial. A dark age for music.

  • @Vlaxitov Well, but the sound is quite similar... Tool has more complex structures...

  • @Lgw1984

I disagree and don't think they sound similiar at all. It's comparing a more classic metal/rock band heavily influenced by king crimson to a poppy heavy punk rock band greatly influenced by fugazi. Quicksands songwriting is usually straight forward with catchy clever timings. Tool is balls out almost all the time and very standard when its not. Sometimes I'm looking for a catchy song that gets my foot over a vulgar display of epic skill.

  • @Vlaxitov

It's a vicious circle of Downloading because albums are sold too expensive and selling albums more expensive because people choose to download. To bad bands like this go unnoticed today when they're the bands who had the most to offer.

    Dark age indeed.

  • @Vlaxitov i agree that q-sand is different from tool. - If I may? - I hear musical qualities more relative to Chevelle & Helmet (not a huge departure from tool, I know). Lyrically, I'm actually reminded of Rise Against. Just an opinion - either way, one helluva underrated band! rock on.

  • @apunkr

You really must try listening to fugazi, then you will understand exactly what I'm talking about. Helmet is completely different than these guys and its almost offensive to compare either band with chevelle imho.

  • @Vlaxitov .....so, I MUST try listening to Fugazi??!! Gee Whiz, maybe after I do that - I can enlighten myself by checking out this combo I heard of that goes by the name of "Led Zepplin", a musical genius (like yourself) attempted to broaden my dim musical horizon by telling me all about them, and what a great person it would make me by associating with this band and their oh - so - unique sound. I would continue, but gotta run - gonna check out some more hot shyt from a group called U2.

  • @Vlaxitov still plenty of awesome music being made. Just gotta know where to look

  • @Bartreligion

There isn't plenty, but enough to get by and yes I know where to look.

  • @Vlaxitov I do think they have more similarities with Tool, the rythmic construction mostly, not as complex in terms of odd times but the ideas. Kind of like the early Chevelle, except they didn't have the creative genius of Walter. Still I love all three bands ^^

  • @spikevalentine13

From a listener point of vew I'll agree. However, I think any similiarities you could point out are coincidental and not influential from one band to the other. In otherwords whatever similiiarities they might have with eachother doesen't discredet either bands origninality. Thats the point I was trying to make in my first comment. As for walter, I've not really enjoyed much that he has done since quicksands first two albums.

  • @Vlaxitov Well, in the case of Chevelle they openly accept the high place in which they hold Tool, and well, I do radio down here, couple of years ago interviewed Helmet's Page Hamilton and how persons like Tom Morello or Maynard came up to him at shows to talk about how Helmet and other contemporary post-hardcore bands like Quicksand or Jawbox have influenced them, I don't think it takes merit from them, their bands are as unique as can be and are legends themselves for what they did.

  • @Vlaxitov As for Walter, well he goes back to the mid 80's to being the brainchild behind New York City hardcore legends Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuit, then Quicksand and production (including the Gorilla Biscuits new band Civ), then Rival Schools and an acoustic project if I am not mistaken.

  • @Vlaxitov cept bands dont make any money off of selling a CD only the record company does.... (well they make royality so like .2 cents per cd sold or w/e it is) so a "download generation" is actually a good thing. why? cuz it allows more ppl access to the bands music and if they like it enuff they will see them in concert, which is where they make all the money. O_o

  • @Doubleabatteryaab You're making assumptions and have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to how royalties work in the music industry. Musicians are in no better of a money position per concert ticket than per CD sale. Again, if its not ultra commercial a record company can't bother producing it anymore. For bands like this that means no CD, no advertisement or exposure to the public, no concert. So yeah, keep telling people how the music industry flourishes when you steal. LOL

  • @Vlaxitov 1) its not stealing. the "rules" of the internet are different in each country. some places (like canada) doesnt allow you to upload anything that isnt 100% your content, while in the UK you allowed to upload anything.

as far as i know if its there to download, its legal.

    2) my last comment was actually true. do some research k thx.

  • @Doubleabatteryaab No, your last statement is not true as I've done the research. For example, a 56 dollar concert ticket yields maybe 10 dollars to the artist/band everything said & done. So just under 18% of the revenue goes to the talent AND they have to work for that infinately more as in dedicate their lives for a duration of a tour rather than the time it takes to just record an album. That means CD sales pay an artist much more for their time than concerts do even today.

  • @Doubleabatteryaab Then you have mega stars like michael jackson who have in the past negotiated something along the lines of around 2.5 USD per CD sale in royalties and sell 40 million copies. Do the math. This is all beside my point that people who tout that they aren't technically stealing when they download someones music for sale w/o paying for it. They have devalued all new music to the tune that it puts alot of new perspective bands in the same position as this band was out of a job.

  • @Vlaxitov ok u keep thinking wut u want and ill think the truth.

    k thx bye

  • @Doubleabatteryaab KTHXBAI right back at ya.

  • @Vlaxitov DUDE you took the words out of my mouth! WELL said and spot on! thank you for saving me some time AND one upping my sediment as well...

  • Quicksand 2 albums are some of the most incredible music I have ever hear. There are no bad songs and this is a band that never got enough recognition.Who sounds even close to their unique sound?

  • Tool, Helmet, Jawbox, Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, and Rage Against The Machine come kinda close.. but i get your point
