  • Conocí esta canción en el "evangelio según San Mateo" de Pier Paolo Pasolini...

  • My mother and grandmother loved him (and missed him) so much and now i know why!!! I'm so glad i was able to show my 86 year old mom this!!! And I'm glad she shared his voice with me!!! What a voice and interpretation!!!

  • A beautiful child, beautiful song. Never forget the sounds from God himself.

    Henry Boone Linville

    Thank you

  • My late mother loved Bobby in the movies. I recall her telling me about him when

    I was a child.

  • omg i can't STOP listening to this song... I listened to it all day today...

  • New version of motherless child youtube.com/watch?v=_69V9GUaYyY

Artist is going to jail for $80 thousand in cash and 4 1/2 lbs of marijuana listen while he's still with us

  • A prodigy........and apparently still with us in his eighties ! Are there any examples on You Tube of his adult singing voice?

  • I remember watching him on television, he came along the same era as Shirley Temple Black........He was a great singer and actor

  • My heart ist touched. thank you so much for this I call it "back to the roots".

    bruniwmcf

  • @HogwartsCastle Maybe he wasn't blessed with Hollywood good looks but to me his face has a quality most people's don't; it's interesting. I think he's vocally *and* physically compelling.

  • i have bobby breen's autograph :P

  • OMG i am dumb struck

  • THIS SONG BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES . THANK YOU

  • the first time I heard Bobby Breen was in the Late 50's I guess I was 12 or 13 . for weeks I would go around singing Rainbow on the River. I still love it till this day .

  • this is exquisite !

  • Very touching with indepth sorrowful meaning

  • wonderful voice, and the song.. its great ;*

  • What a talent. Too bad he had to grow up. He had a very hard life. It wasn't all fun and games.

  • um....

like who doesn't have a life that is hard.

Everyone does, even when you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth,.

    Life is hard!

  • god dang you little boy, you've moved me to tears

  • dang, his voice is more powerful than mine (given 1 I'm 18 and 2 I'm a low baritone, this is saying a lot)

  • lmao... i know i just saw that..Cheers baby!

  • what movie is that plz?

  • Way down south, read description

  • Paul Robeson is my favorite rendition of this song, nothing is more powerful than his performance of this song.

this lady sings it pretty good. she sounds a bit like my deceased grandmother.

  • Bobby Breen is a little boy actually, he is about 12 yrs. old or so in this clip and was famous for being a boy soprano

  • wow you mean a little boy is singing this? wow! that is awesome.

  • Yeah he sounds like a grown woman. He has a beautiful voice

  • This is giving me goose bumps !!

  • I love this song. My favorite is the Madrugada version, but this was really good too.

  • s a traditional Negro spiritual. The song dates back to the era of slavery in the United States when it was common practice to sell children of slaves away from their parents. An early performance of the song dates back to the 1870s by the Fisk Jubilee Singers.

  • who wrote the lyrics?

  • Beautiful soul-colours; sing me to feel!

  • ATL

  • ...thats a fine example of the glory of music...

  • I like this arrangement. And the vocal harmonies that they arranged!

  • There was no male child singer like Bobby Breen back then and still isn't anyone who can replace the beauty of his singing or phrasing

  • I didn't think anyone could sing like Bobby, I thought he was one of a kind. But, look up on youtube: Ukranian boy singer Eugeny. This kid is just as good as Bobby...and that is saying a lot!! Still, Bobby was wonderful and gave me a lot of enjoyment when I was a kid watching his movies on afternoon TV.

  • I would tend to agree with you, I would say that there hasn`t been a *male* child singer like Bobby down to this very day.

As for female singer: I would say his fellow Canadian Deanna Durbin had no peer.

  • Beautiful... what is this movie about??

  • so haunting and beautiful. I had chills the entire time.

  • Beautifully atmospheric & haunting.

  • if I could sing like that I wouldn't have a mother either

  • What you mean by that?

  • uh huh... tell that to an orphan.

  • Corey Mathews

  • outstanding!x

  • You're welcome...enjoy!

  • My God words fail me....

  • coolz

  • were singing this in choir...best song ever!

  • My emotions swell everytime i play this...

  • I love this song, it makes the hairs on my arm rais<3

  • Wow!!! Brought tears to my eyes. I was a motherless child for sixteen years until I found my mother again. I think everyone has this feeling from time to time. I would also LOVE to hear Rainbow on the River...

  • WOW! that was haunting

  • Eine ergreifende Stimme und ein Stück Historie.

    Danke dafür!

  • heenaynee thanxs for the reply louisespirit x

  • The name of the movie is "Way Down South" 1939

    available online for purchase.

  • i feel your pain bobby

  • Such power and emotion from such a young child. Very few words but rings so true in my ear. Extremely moving.....

  • Amazing. simply amazing

  • Utter perfection!! Very dramatic stuff. Thanks.

  • his voice is so amazing. he's a child but he is singin like grown up

  • Just EXCELLENCE at its best..

  • This is amazing. I have never heard a child with such a voice before.

  • I agree. Enjoy!

  • the black people in america suffered so much.

  • @hobo197 so have almost everyone other ethnicity in the world. moreover it's strange people who didn't suffer this hardship bitch about it, but don't bitch about the "blacks" in Africa that are still suffering, and by the hands of their own people, non-stop for centuries. It's disgraceful. The black slaves in the US were also emancipated by a "white" person, yet no one fucking helps the slaves in Africa. Moreover, nowadays the US white popular in on the end of some weird passive-racism by blacks

  • we sang this song in music class

  • bobby is a outstanding vocalist

  • But..he is only white in this place? What is going on?

  • You'll have to see the movie.

  • i get chills.. nice.

  • WOW what a voice....curious if there is a relation......is that were I get my voice??? Hmmmm....Something I should look up :)

  • OMG, that was beautiful...dave me chills

  • whAT IS THIS MOVIE CALLED...

  • The movie is called "Way Down South" 1939

  • I LOVE this song, and this version is so wonderful and amazing. Another really great one is by Shlomo Gronich and the Sheba Choir, which is made up of Ethiopian Jewish immigrants to Israel.

  • I HAVE CHILLS

  • Bobby Breen, whose names was Isador Borsuk, was outstanding. He is an example to the opera singers today who cannot manage the splendid phrasing and purity of tone. His sister taught him everything.

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • wow.i wish i was alive from back then so i could have heard him in person.ilove it

  • I'd love to find a CD collection of Bobby's recordings. Every few years I search, but have never found any. Thanks for posting this.

  • Only knew the version of Van Morrison. This is beautiful!

  • Que bonita voz!!! Bien hecho!

  • He was a fabulous singer .... BRAVO
