My father was Chief Steward on The Accra, The Aureol and The Apapa, until he retired in 1966. In fact he spent his entire working life with the Company, as did his two brothers, who were both Marine Engineers
My family wen to Freetown, Sierra Leone twice in the late fifties. Once with SS Calabar and once with SS Winnebar. I remember the dark green water in the swimming pool. I think the pool was the opening to the hold, boarded over and lined with a tarpaulin.
How odd to see the Accra`in action`I did my first trip on her in 1966 as a Cadet Purser and took part in all these jollifications

Because I had south a good time I confinds my husband to go on a cruise.
We have cruised 14 times up till now
My family sailed several times on the Apapa the Aureol and the Accra. all together 7 times
We sailed from Liverpool to Lagos and when my father had his leave we went back to Liverpool on to Holland
