My other grievance is, why didn't Victoria ever call Fraser up, or be in disguised and visit, or just some how contact Fraser again? She was such a strong presence, and after all the only woman Fraser loved. I think Fraser was the only man that Victoria loved, as well. She should have at least tried to go to his funeral, and then found out that he was alive.
I was trying to get more substance out of the finally but it wasn't there. Frasier, summing up his friends lives, said that Francesca had 6 children? She should have become an ace detective, that was her dream. And why did he say that Constable Turnbull got hit by his campaign bus? That was silly. And Ray K would not be happy sledding around in the wilderness. And not much about Ray V, his partner and friend for so many good times. Still, the finality of it made me sad. Silly show and all.
I thought that when Fraser and Ray V bumped into each other that they should have shown more happiness at their meeting. After all that they had been through. And when Ray V was in the hospital Frasier should have stayed every day like Ray did for him after Frasier got shot in Victoria's Secret. Paul sort of wrote Ray V as not very significant.
@Dasdfjkl I agree. I don't think Paul Gross had even the slightest grasp on the wonderful friendship that Fraser and RayV had, and would still have after RayV returns after being undercover. Fraser should have showed far more concern for RayV being shot. But I really think Paul was biased toward his fellow Canadian, and disliked David Marciano, so didn't both to write the friendship accurately. He was only concerned about the F/K slashgirls. :-(
@NancyK97 I agree with you also. I think we should re-write the ending, :-) I think that Fraser would never be happy living in the wilderness any more. After seeing how he can help people with the skills he learned growing up, he graduated to a higher calling. He could still go on holiday to Canada. But I think he would have made his home in Chicago and got a job as a detective. And Ray V would probably be a special FBI agent and have Fraser help on special cases, with RayK too.
@NancyK97, TYK! The link took me to photos of the earlier draft, as shown on LiveJournal. Was that where you meant?
Speaking of LiveJournal, were those YOUR comments on Aria's "Why Aria Loves Due South" page? Sounded like it might have been you, but signed "anonymous".
@RideForever139 I found the earlier draft from a link on Fanlore.org. Search for the "Due South/Call of the Wild" page, and you'll find the link at the end.
@NancyK97 Although there are some aspects of the Ray Ray isssues where you and I don't agree (as well as some where we do, plus I totally agree with you about the Bob Fraser part) the fact that you HAVE concerns and that you VOICE them really touches me. (Have you ever seen the copy of the earlier draft of CotW? I read that someone won it at auction at one of the RCW 139 Cons.)
@RideForever139 Yes, I have seen the earlier draft of "COTW" online. And I really wish that had been the ending that had been filmed. I hated PG changing the ending to what we got - probably because he wanted to satisfy the F/K slash girls. He just didn't seem to think about all dS fans, particularly those who love the Fraser-RayV friendship.
And, besides more emphasis on Fraser's and RayV's friendship, several other things in "COTW" could have been much better.
In fairness to those who don't read between the lines of the canon and who don't follow any of the fanon, I actually DO see how troubling this can be. I was not a happy arctic camper when I first saw CotW, but fanon has expanded my view. And if the bottom line is all about loving Due South, I'm going with wherever the love is.
@RideForever139 Thank you for acknowledging my concerns. :-) I think "COTW" was very poorly written, and that Fraser truly seemed to prefer RayK to RayV, which should have NEVER been shown happening! Paul Gross should have written the episode to please fans of BOTH Rays - not just the F/K slash girls.
I also don't like Bob Fraser inserted into this scene. It should have been Ray's and Fraser's scene alone; Bob gets in the way of what could have been a much more touching scene between them.
Thank you kindly, DanPugh7, for uploading this. And I don't think Fraser "blows off" Ray V. This clip shows him connecting with both Rays; he loves them both. And in the ending voice-over (end of the episode, not end of this clip) where Fraser talks about what becomes of Ray V, that shows Fraser DID keep the connection with Ray V.
Fraser doesn't even call RayV "my friend," as he should have, when he talks about RayV being in Florida with Stella. Instead, he coldly calls him "my former partner" - indicating, to me, that he considers the friendship to be over. :-(. And Fraser showed so much more emotion and concern when RayV was in the hospital in "The Pilot." In this scene, he's just cold to poor RayV. Fraser seems to have forgotten everything RayV taught him about friendship!
It's not enough - Fraser should have been shown going back to Chicago after capturing Muldoon to spend time with his dear friend RayV, who was still recovering from being injured. Instead, he blows off poor RayV, who did so much for him. Bad Fraser for being an awful friend!
fraser should have teamed up with ray v again and stayed in chicago and left kowalski

Such an awesome series. To bad they cancelled and even worse that they put a "gay" slant to their partnership towards the end.
