Sadly, that left hook against Rosario made him a safety-first spoiler, hence his dour performance here. Camacho of 85 would have given a better showing.

Yeah, he died young, but he made 8 title defenses and gave pretty impressive beat downs to three future HOF's in a very short amount of time. I worked with boxing promoters in the 80's and 90's and I can personally tell you Chavez and company tried to get Camacho to sign on, but Camacho's camp said later. Chavez reminds me alot of a mini Mike Tyson. He didn't use the peek a boo style, but in this fight, and many other, he had the same compact, stalking, relentless approach, always backing guys up. He had similar head movement. When he gets close Camacho keeps trying to tie him up. They had a similar demeanor in the ring. Look at 3:11-3:15.

People always think that fast hands, foot work and stamina= good boxing skill? Camacho and so many others a like do not have good boxing skill. Boxing means to punch and not get hit "Without Holding!" Most people foget that. You are not a good boxer if you hold on or tie up every chance you get when you can't move out of the way or aren't sure you can win without doing so. It's like flopping in soccer! taking advantage of a rule not skill to win the game. Give and dodge not give and hold on.

@raphelo, have to disagree - Camacho did have some wonderful boxing skills, BUT (and it's a big but) he'd largely abandoned them by the time he fought Chavez in '92. Down at Super-Featherweight and Lightweight, Camacho had it all. Decent puncher, some of the fastest hands ever seen, good on both the front and back foot and an underrated defence. Sadly, that left hook against Rosario made him a safety-first spoiler, hence his dour performance here. Camacho of 85 would have given a better showing.

Yeah, he died young, but he made 8 title defenses and gave pretty impressive beat downs to three future HOF's in a very short amount of time. I worked with boxing promoters in the 80's and 90's and I can personally tell you Chavez and company tried to get Camacho to sign on, but Camacho's camp said later. Camacho only signed on after Chavez threatened to move on and fight others. You should argue with facts not emotion.

Chavez reminds me alot of a mini Mike Tyson. He didn't use the peek a boo style, but in this fight, and many other, he had the same compact, stalking, relentless approach, always backing guys up. He had similar head movement. When he gets close Camacho keeps trying to tie him up. They had a similar demeanor in the ring. Look at 3:11-3:15.

He was born in Puerto Rico but he moved to the U.S.A early in life and grew up in Spanish Harlem, New York. He is a United States citizen, so Americans don't see him as a Puerto Rican. They see him as a Puerto Rican-American. He's one of them. Chavez on the other hand was born and raised in Mexico, and spoke only spanish, and after becoming wealthy and famous STAYED in Mexico.

in his last 10 to 15 fights...after he had been in nearly 80 or 90 pro fights.. not to mention his amateur carrer in Mexico.. so of course after that many Pro fights...anyone will lose a step be slower.. and rely more on their chin than in boxing skills... all the greats went through that...
