  • I miss long haired paul! haha

  • Hmmm Needs more cowbell........................

  • Original, great melody, fantastic shredding. Gilbert isn't just fast for fast's sake, it goes somewhere. SFBADR and Fuzz Universe are two iconic albums. Gilbert should be made a national treasure. And I'm sure his best is yet to come.

  • i wouldnt want to be on the 2nd row.... all i will see is PG's head and not his pinky in action! lol stage a bit too low? PG rocks.

  • perfection

  • 37 seconds in....... Sounds like a space fighter taking off.

  • @philnumberone It's an effect called takeoff on his airplane flanger. So you were right on.

  • eat someting, paul...

  • I bet the crowd had no idea who this guy was let alone know what a big part he plays in inspiring people in the guitar world.

  • @FinalFreedomEclipse everyone was recording it, they wouldnt record it if they thought it was just some random guy

  • @FifatlasHD Suuuuurrre, EVERYONE was sitting their with their cameras out. Unless you were there. or you can see peoples faces from the stage. which means probably means you have super powers as all i can see are the backs of peoples heads in this entire video. You dont have a clue. just like the rest of us.

  • @FinalFreedomEclipse fine, if your going to be an ass about it, not Everyone was recording, I know that, but many were. my point remains the same

  • @FifatlasHD So does mine, but that doesnt change the fact that everyone still sat in their seats like they were glued to them

  • @FinalFreedomEclipse out of respect, they knew who he was

  • @FifatlasHD and you have spoke to all the people who attended the gig and confirmed it have you?

  • @FinalFreedomEclipse wow again with the ALL comment, look, the place wouldnt have been packed with people to watch just anyone with a guitar. also, this is in 2008, Paul Gilbert was very well known in 2008, its likely that the vast majority know who he is.

  • @FifatlasHD Again...see my previous comment. I know who Paul Gibert is, YOU know who paul Gilbert is and Chappers knows who paul guilbert is, as for being packed. It looks like he played a small venue. that doesnt mean everyone there knew who Paul Gibert was. It could have been an add in a local paper that drew everyone in "amazing man on guitar" people are very clever at marketting things these days

  • @FinalFreedomEclipse So the reason your right is there was a chance that a local paper that said amazing man on guitar?

  • @FifatlasHD Yep. Viral marketting is viral

  • @FinalFreedomEclipse lol fail

  • @FifatlasHD actually. ever heard of the term "Free Cake" ??? Maybe everyone was there for the free cake. and it just so happens Mr P. Gilbert was passing by an decided to play to all the people while they munched on cake. It could happen. At the same time it explains why people were glued to the seat like manikins -- BUT YOU DONT KNOW THAT! BECAUSE YOU WERENT THERE! People still coulda shown a little more emotion and got into the groove of it

  • Is his gain coming solely from the amp?

  • Must be fun playing in a room full of zombies.

  • @kingv911

Maybe they were absolutely "stunned" by the awesomeness of Pauls music

Besides that it looks incredibly stupid if you Head bang with short hair

Okay now i run out of cheap excuses

  • Great player, this is one of the best sounds I've heard him have...that Marshall Vintage Modern sounds sweet.

  • nice heads,lol.

  • 2:00 HE MADE A MISTAKE HE'S HUMAN!!!!!!!

  • @brando18guitarplyr Actually, he played perfectly, reality just failed :)

  • This is the first video I saw of yours, Rob! :)

  • This is the first video I saw of yours, Rob! :)

  • are you sure its a combo?

  • Comment removed

  • His vibrato is absolutely perfect. In my opinion, you can shred all you want but vibrato is the difference between being able to play and being ABLE to play.

  • needs more cowbell

  • so what are u opinions on paul i think hes a superb muscisian my fave too be quite frank

  • NORWAY!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Like Paul, I also refuse to play unless my guitar, amp and clothes all have the same colour scheme.

  • Like Paul, I also refuse to play unless my guitar, amp and clothes all have the same colour scheme.

  • Lol, I'm norwegian xD Nice song though :P

  • I hate shredders. In my opinion it's all about speed and completely void of soul. But, Paul Gilbert is a shredder who puts loads of feeling into his playing. VERY few shredders can pull this off. I'd say Paul and Yngwie are the only players who can shred with soul.

  • @murfdog19 And John Petrucci...

  • @murfdog19 Yngwie? Really? I fail to see how anyone can say they hate shred, then say they like Yngwie, a prime example of the arid kind of shred purely reliant on a a form of egotistical wankery that has barely changed since the mid eighties. Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Andy Timmons and Guthrie Govan (among others) are the players that have advanced this genre by incorporating elements of blues and jazz.

I agree with you though, in essence. Shred, in its purest form, is horrible.

  • @DrSalvador15 Yes, but Yngwie's prime was in the mid eighties. The eighties were filled with lifeless shredders, but in that time Yngwie was a little different from the others. He is influenced by classical composers; which is a cliche now, but somewhat original in the eighties.

  • sup Robbie, love all your vids and your overly polite responses to 'some' comments. keep rockin dude

  • cool u got to see one of the people that made me pickup the guitar

  • The crowd are dead.

  • how does he do that sound in 0:39 ? xD scratch ?

  • @hideokojimanser

If you didn't find out, its his Flanger pedal

  • @hideokojimanser Scratch and the ADA ibanez Flanger

  • did he record the whole album with the modern vintage?

  • a boring crowd, but at least theres not a million people with their phones out creating huge distractions like every concert now a days

  • pff miserable crowd, i'd of stoped and fuckin walked out, cheeky twats

  • Βασίλης Τσιάρτας στην κιθάρα κυρίες και κύριοι~!

  • Come on, people! Its Paul Gilbert! At least bob your head!

    My hero needs some love!

  • either mr gilberts extremley tall of hes standing on a podium

  • Notice how Paul has a deep love and commitment to each and every note he plays. Each note is like a child of his, and he makes sure he gives each one enough attention. No notes left behind, each one is a masterpiece.

  • Norwegian Cowbell! Hell Yeah! I'm Norwegian :D

  • proabably they see him everyday thats why theres no reaction

  • looks like the audience is deaf... bloody 'ell, so obvious they are not familiar with this kind of music

  • 1:40

  • damn paul just keeps getting better with time...

  • they were just stunned because they were too amazed... :)

  • He was looking younger with the 'long hair' again in 2008....reminds me of the 90's =D

  • if i was that guy in the fron the guy with the hat on omg i would like pass out haha

  • @chechoguitar112 YOU'RE FUCKING RIGHT!!!!DAMN IT IT'S PAUL GILBERT!!!!!SHOW A LITTLE AMUSEMENT OR SOMETHING!!!!!!

  • the audience IS NOT listening.... come on!! its paul gilbert!!! I would be jumping or screaming or something...

  • wow look at the guy in the front with the tan hat on! TALK ABOUT A BAD HAIRCUT!!!!

  • @polarelite looks like a big hairy ass.

  • where is the joy? the audience is just standing there....

  • maby they are stunned :P

  • @redgive

when you watch an amazing incredible guitarist, you watch like a hawk to see what he is doing?this isnt a concert,dumb-ass!!! this is a guitar technique /class and demonstration.

if you were moshing around you would get thrown out,and kicked in the ass.

  • @redgive when you watch an amazing incredible guitarist, you watch like a hawk to see what he is doing?this isn't a concert,dumb-ass!!! this is a guitar technique /class and demonstration. your not simple are you, when your in a university course , listening attentively to the prof are you jumping around , a shit eating grin on your face?if you were you would get thrown

    out,and kicked in the ass.

the stupidity of the average you-tube watcher continues to plummet to new lows

  • @utooberblooper ok just calm down u dont need to rant about it

  • @redgive i thought it was an alien at times w/ the neon lights covering him up.

  • Buy some stilts chappers lol.

  • Playing to a crowd of zombies... Paul's a real trooper.

  • i guess those guys are not into the groove.. they are trying to suck every little info and technique that they can get from THE MAN.. hehehe.. which i will also do if i was there... it's not everyday to see him play right in front of teir face like this..

yes you are right they are like zommbies.. but i will be like them if i am there..

  • Paul is amazing as always!

  • chappers didnt know u were a gilbert fan!

  • I like his songs

  • 4:25 xD

  • Incredible song, with some Santana feel in the "main solo" in my opinion. Great guitarist, one of the best.

  • I hate to say it but... I think he messed up at 2:00. Or maybe my ears can't handle the rock. idk

  • pauls laffin at 2.00 so .. i think he knew and found the funny side... lol

  • Silent crowd? :P

  • I swear this man plays with witchcraft. He's too good.

  • he uses the randy rhoads special edition head in this concert, the white one.

  • wrong, its all a vintege modern

  • dont believe marketing.

  • i dont. i belive i know this is a vintege modern, and not a randy rhoads head just becouse its white.

  • No. Although Paul typically uses the Vintage Modern as his amplifier, he also has been experimenting with the Randy Rhoads Special Edition Head. Don't be so quick to call someone out if you don't know your shit.

  • okay. i searched that all over the internet and theirs nothing on it.

ive seen his latesest dvd, read all his bio, seen his marshall interviews and its clearly the vintege modern. He says he went from laney, then tried some marshalls and loved the v modern. the dude below me got 3 thumbs down for saying it.

so maybe your head made it up. and i never called anyone out. i just said its all vintege modern in this concert. so wtf?

maybe he used one once i dunno, just saying he dident here...

  • You can tell simply by the faceplate that this head is not a Vintage Modern. If you look closely as well, you can see a Vintage Modern stack directly beside the RR Head. Why would PG have 2 stacks running at the same time for a small show like this, especially 2 of the same. It's clearly a RR Head.

  • Actually Paul was using a Vintage Modern Combo at this show ;-)

  • Correct, the stack you can see is a RR stack but Paul is playing through a Vintage Modern 2x12 combo on the floor ;-)

  • yup he cerntainly does play em. i rember thinking first time i saw him live why are there two marshal combos on the floor. turns out he plays em now.

  • @RobChappers whats paul settings on the vm combo?

he makes it sound like a monster

if u know the settings let me know

  • why not take a trip to norway too??

  • is he using the RR?

  • Not it's one of the PGM301's i think, if you look you can see the RG shape, and the painted on F-holes

  • i was talking about the amp dude ^^

  • ahh (Y)

then, by the look of it, Yes, unless he's just been given a marshall amp to mod in the way he saw fit

  • For the new (2008) ambum he is using a white Marshall ??? or hes lanny ...

  • Vintage Modern.

  • he uses a marshall, i'm pretty sure its a vintage modern 2266c combo

  • that guy in the crowdd with a hat on has weird looking burns

  • Rob, you'll get there! Just keep practicing and you could be shredding next to him someday! Paul is very lucky he was born with monsters to do those painful stretches, especially for the diminished string skipping sections

  • Does anybody have a clue how his amp is set? I just bought a vintage modern head and I think this is one of the better sounds that I have heard out of it...

  • he use that ones

  • Either zoom in the video, or call Paul and ask him.

  • He actually responds to a lot of emails, go on his site and find the email address.

  • Indeed. I haven't heard anyone capable of getting the same sound Paul does out of these amps. My guess is he runs it through some kind of boost.

  • He uses a hot plate. :)

  • good playing, looks like someones basement though lol.. i am unfamiliar with this Musikmesse 2008 thing.

  • what a boring crowd

  • The thing is though, even I'd admit, if Paul Gilbert was shredding in front of me, my eyes would be watching his hands like a hawk.

  • so true, I watched Paul a couple months ago, half of time I was gawking like insane

the oher half I was banging like insane, though

  • @ijfox87

It's probably mostly composed of metalheads who are only watching thinking about how they can get better than Paul Gilbert - or already are, of course:P

    No offense, Rob;):D

  • @yobhsiFehT why do us metalheads have to think how to get better than paul gilbert?

  • @nomameswey777

I'm really not sure what you're getting at, but it was a joke, so no need for contention here anyway~shrug~

  • @yobhsiFehT yeah its fine, its just that metalheads get stereotyped too much and its anoying sometimes.

  • @nomameswey777

That makes sense, but it's a very well-founded stereotype, unfortunately:S (Paul Gilbert actually being one of the notable exceptions.) I'm guessing there's just a little too much fake testosterone floating around in the one genre to leave much room for nice guys - everybody's too busy trying to be THE BEST and/or prove how incredibly ANGRY they are at... whatever it is they're angry always angry at:P lol

    Be well.

  • @yobhsiFehT I agree theres a lot of that insecure hypermasculinity bullshit surrounding guitar players. I almost can smell it whenever I walk into a guitar center or find some guys to jam with... It makes me not even want to play with anyone else because they're generally asshats trying too hard to one-up you. In the back of my mind I'm saying "dude come the fuck on, lets just make music!" Less ego and more creative expression! I love Paul in that he never has that egomaniacal posture in playing

  • @ijfox87 actually its a guitar clinic ... people cant see shit here, probably not the best gilbert clinic ...

  • @ijfox87 Germans....

  • Thanks for putting this on Rob!

  • god, people are morons, you got bang your head - its Paul Gilbert before you, not just staring with no moves

  • my fav song by pg as of right now!

  • I've always been inspired to try harder by amazing players. I've never thought about giving up.

  • What can be said besides, Paul is a master.

  • Paul looks different (and weird) without his isolation headphone. Well, actually, he looks closer to normal... lol!

  • the crowd is being brainwashed by PG's otherworldly playing. \m/

  • If I were 8 this would make me want to take up learning the guitar ... as it is, it makes me want to give up ;^)

  • What a lifeless crowd.. good playing though!

  • HAHAHAHA dude. nice ending.

  • the guy at the end is the best - Mother fucker!

  • He strikes the strings above the nut and then bends.

  • No, he actually uses a flanger with a expression pedal, there´s a video about this on youtube

  • what was that thing he did at 0:38?

  • Flange petal.

  • 0:38 hahahah

  • Uh oh, paul is not wear his headphones!

  • yeah danyeo is right, he does play through a vitage modern combo, the combol has 2x12 speakers so its still god damn loud.

  • i feel so so much better about the arpeggio part knowing that its even a challenge for PG. it must be the only thing EVER that he cant play with one hand, blindfolded, upsidedown, and in a coma

  • I think I remember reading somewhere that in the album recording of this song the arpeggios were actually put together piece by piece by a audio engineer. It wasn't until after the album was released and right before a live performance that Paul learned to play the whole part.

Interesting glimpse of what it's like to be a BUSY musician!

  • i dunno bout that

  • And being so good that you don't care lol

  • that marshall's nice as shit

  • It turns out he is NOT playing through the white Marshall stack in the back. He's playing though a VIntage Modern combo on the floor to his right. I saw a picture of this performance from the right side and you can clearly see the combo from there.

  • Haha ! 4:29 MOTHERFUCKER!

  • WHY THE FUCK WASNT I HERE!!!!!!

  • Anyone from Norway here? Really? no? Yes? haha this is so cool ^^

  • im from norway^^

  • me to c:

  • I saw him play this live when I went to see Satch in Manchester.

    Very cool.

  • Yea I was there too I actuly enjoyed paul more than satch

  • His hair shreds

  • he is so tight and smooth. lol.....no not a women.

  • Haha ! 4:29 MOTHERFUCKER :p!

  • long hair againg yeah!

  • omg!

    hell yeah

  • He's such a rocker lol.

  • needs more cowbell, lol

  • LOL :p!

  • melodic shred:)

  • You can't see it but everyone is air-guitaring to this song, haha!

    Love,

    -FiRM

  • He's my favourite guitarist of all time. Anxiously waiting to see him play at the Carling Academy (Newcastle) in November.

Hopefully I'll be half as good as he is. Not, however, just for the sake of being good at guitar, but as a means of expressing myself.

  • im seeing him at southampton in november! im glad i know someone with the same taste as me!

  • I'll be there in Newcastle I cannot WAIT!

  • Good to know there's folks nearby who appreciate the Gilbert as much as I do. Everyone I know, has no idea who he is, and that is a CRIME.

Perhaps I'll see you there, navystreak.

  • Im also going to see paulo gilberto in newcastle woot woot.

I just hope he does some of his older stuff where he sings.

Ie. Down to mexico, suicide lover, individually twisted, Mr. Spock etc lol

  • Gutting man. I leave the country for a year then he plays a whole bunch of UK gigs >.>

No gigs lined up for South Korea yet...just got to cross those fingers. You're a lucky blighter though :P

  • The reason the crowd isn't getting all excited is because their minds are being blown.

  • jcshredder = dumb shit

  • this guys is the best, and like someone said, that marshall amp is flawless (rhandy's signature model)

  • I really think Paul needs to get more publicity.

  • i spotted the secret to fast playing. he has 12 fingers. look close!
