gray is the man that should be getting the award for the truck and driver of the decade.when he was driveing carolina crusher.he said he done it all by him self from the time he started driveing the truck in 86 to 90's he was a one man show and i respect him for that
Whats up with the guy at 1:36... you'd think the drivers would know that they needed to get there truck stopped in those small arena's they used to race in..
I'm a Bigfoot fan but Gary did an excellent job building monster trucks, always very competitive and I had alot of respect for the man. I bet that was a trip when Snake Bite drove through Gary's truck!!
I saw this truck roll after defeating Prowler in Houston at the Astrodome. TNN was there, and I remember Gary saying, "Man, it seems I can't do anything right. Had the race won, landed sorta' sideways, broke a rear steering cylinder, which made the rear tires turn, and when I saw the wall I just let go and let her turn over."
My favorite childhood truck. I used to watch TUFF TRAX monster truck tv show. And i used to hate when, Bigfoot used to beat him. Then Carolina crusher disappered for a while. So Gravedigger became my favorite truck. Gary and Dennis are some of the pioneers of monster truck racing.
What happend to C.K? and all the other old trucks from the 80-90s? Rampage, boogie van, Black stallion... basicly every truck from Microsoft monster trucks 2 pc game .... i miss them all.. basicly just Grave digger thats an old name thats still active.
Black Stallion still doing Monster Jam, other motorsports show, and putting on own Vaters Motorsports show. Boogie Van,Crusher & Rampage are part of Paul Shafer Motorsports.
@dirtnation i bought a carolina crusher truck on ebay 4 years ago. not 100 percent on what number truck it is but the body is a 88 silverado. straight frame with front and rear four links, still with a steel bady not fiberglass
gary built the first carolina crusher at his brother richards 4x4 shop across the street from my apartment in wadesboro nc in the early 80`s. it was his daily driver until it got too big for the road and is the older truck in video. over the years richards shop became a place that monster truck drivers used as a shop they could stop and do repairs and rest on the way to other events on the east coast. i think a gravedigger was getting pressure washed there today.
Gary Porter is one of my favorite drivers. I watched the TNT series on TV back in '88, '89, '90. Those were darn good years for monster truck racing. After that, monster truck racing was scarce on TV for me until Monster Jam came along. I prefer the trucks of the old days myself. They had character and uniqueness. The trucks you see nowadays look like they came off an assembly line. They all look alike. Still fun to watch though.
Team Grave Digger should really consider putting him in a retro Carolina Crusher truck to run some Monster Jam events, obviously using a Gravedigger chassis with all the good stuff. I think it would definately bring some positive feedback from the fans, or at least the dedicated ones who remember the good ole days.
Great Vid!! reminds me of the glory days of monster truck racing before it became a big buisness. The USHRA seems so staged now, almost like the WWE. I miss the Mud Bogging/Drag Racing and the Tractor Pulls too!
Gary Porter is the best straight-line racer in history. And this just goes to show, chevy always kicks a fords ass :P !!!!!!!!!!! Thats right mother fuckers i said it
Carolina Crusher is and will always be one of my top 5 favorite trucks of all time. I've still even got one of those neon yellow hats like Gary used to wear!
one of the old carolina crusher trucks, is now in the UK racing under the name of BANDIT, a black truck, which is a shame because the drivers useless but at least the trucks still around.
i forget the year but there was this monster truck final that the equalizer had to borrow a tire from gary porter and they both ended up in the finals and the equalizer ended up beating the carolina crusher
That was like 1992 or 1993 in Tampa. I seriously still have this event on tape. I grew up watching and taping the ESPN Monster Truck Challenge show virtually every day.
Predator is in the works, so is Snake Bite,Boogey van & Black Stallion, Hall Brothers, Samson, and much more... "Playin for keeps" see what i can do on that. But i welcome more idea's, and see what i can do.
One of the best.
