--This, and the Eleanor Rigby FD, still remain my favorites of Meryl and Charlie's, and while I realize that they may not have been as technically advanced as their Phantom FD (which is also breathtaking, of course. :)), they painted such captivating, expressive stories.
--This is probably the best performance of the Samson et Dalila FD I've ever seen, also. The expression, chemistry, power, was just amazing. :)
@Classic1940s yes, i have a soft spot for their very first performance of S&D too. i think the first half here was performed with such softness and lightness and sincerity of expression. look at the end of the first lift, how meryl lands with her leg all nice and straight, like a ballerina. my favorite part is probably the bit of choreography between that lift and the start of the step sequence. heart riveting. i would change nothing about it.
I'm still amazed at the fact that how fast the past season went by!! It seems that hearing about their music choice was just like what, yesterday?! But 6 months have past...It's definitely a breakthrough season for them, and exciting season for us fans. I would never forget the joy and all the wonderful memories that Meryl and Charlie brought to the ice.
Not so perfect comparing to their other performances this season but, I definitely love it, I believe there was something special in it that drew me in! Gotta love them.
Come on judges! A deduction, you're kidding right. Deductions are supposed to be for major error. There are none here. It's an awesomely perfect program.
I think that one point deduction came from an extended lift, and I believe it was the last one. Note that they also lost some point on the last lift because it was only rewarded a Level 1. However, it seems that they have already made some changes and we'll see this week how much they've improved in Cup of Russia. Best luck for Meryl and Charlie!! :)
I see it too-and it's not just Charlie's hair! They are starting to become bigger-than-life performers, just as Anissina/Peizerat were/are. Comparisons may happen more often if Davis/White are allowed to go outside for choreography and to maybe try their own hand at it to tap into their own creative abilities.
I do think it's astounding just how much potential they have.
I thought of it-it's the power they skate with. As beautiful and charismatic as Anissina/Peizerat skate, it is really their power that sets them apart. I see the same quality in Davis/White, who are still a developing team. And it really does make me excited for their future.
I think Davis & White have the ability to go even beyond Belbin & Agosto if they start slowing down some of their movements. The sort of uncontrolled "control" is their style, but sometimes the transition look frantic, and it would do them well to let their movements breathe more by slowing some of them down - say, holding an image for more than two seconds for effect. Other than that, the control they have over their edgegs and yet still have such speed through teh footwork is just insane!
I agree with you Quenton007, I think this is still early, by the time U.S Nationals and before World, this program will be very polish. Besides, the new judging system rewards difficult lifts (with change of hold, rotation, and not to be held too long), this is taking away some of the elements' beauty, we might not have enough time to appreciate them as they're done so fast. I personally think Belbin & Agosto team hits their plateau, and Belbin, to me, is always a weaker link in the team.
I think Belbin & Agosto are heading in the right direction with their new coaches, who also coach Domnina & Shabalin. Hopefully, they can create more difficult transitional elements, as that is where they are weakest. I actually think D&W's lifts are spectacular - not sure why they're second lift was only level 2 and they're last lift was level 1. (Come on, judges...) Which is why I want them to slow down the in-betweens, if only to highlight just how amazing their lifts and footwork are.
B/A have made the right move in the coaching change because they (well Tanith) have not had very sound technique in a few years. That is an area I've felt D/W were better for a few years. Now both teams are working to become more polished and once they both achieve that, it will be an amazing race.
I personally think that D/W have much, much superior programs though. And with more time, they will be more polished and all the more spectacular.
Love it!!! I think they will beat Belbin and Agosto this year with this program. Both teams are good, but Davis and White are fearless. They don't back down because of the enormity of the event unlike Belbin and Agosto who can be too careful at times. Belbin and Agosto's choice of music to Tosca is good but it does not have the softness and drama of Samson and Delilah. I think this is their year to represent the US.
Ah! This is so beautiful! :) :)

I LOVE how Meryl ends the lift with her leg pointed straight out like that at 1:38. Just gorgeous, I wish she would do it again.

Whenever I watch them skate, they remind me of Anissina and Piezerat of France. Davis and White has the same charisma and beauty on the ice.

Oh...my...the lifts were so difficult. I can't wait to see them take over Belbin & Agosto
leoninsf 3 years ago 16
If they're this good at the beginning of the season, I cannot wait to see what they do by Nationals, 4CC and Worlds.
Here's to hoping they qualify for the GPF!
Oh and question, can anyone understand the commentators? It'd be awesome to know what they're saying!
