@RetSquid Hi RetSquid, you are correct, the term driving, legally speaking means the one behind the wheel, but a man or woman who is not an employee of the governing corporations is not required by any written law to adopt any legal definition.

Most dont realize that they have never possessed OWNERSHIP documents.
They only have a CERTIFACATE of TITLE. Lets examine that...
1) A Certificate of Title is only evidence that a title exist. The real ownership document is possessed by the owner, which is the respective State that issued the Certificate of title.
2) True ownership documents include, Certificate of Origin and fully descriptive invoice.
Please understand that when one registers an automobile, it then becomes a vehicle where ownership is forfeited to the state, in return for a privilege of use.

"I believe in a stateless society."
A stateless society is anarchy where everyone does as they please. Liberty and freedom cease to exist, social Darwinism prevails. There are no boundaries, the only rule is "survive at all costs."
So from the libertarian perspective what "takes charge" in a stateless society to prevent anarchy? Morality? Karma? Physics? What? Human Goodness (surely as conservatives you don't believe that!)?
It is -states- which wage war, not individuals. Individuals, left alone, cooperate. That's how markets work. Markets are inherently peaceful institutions, while states are the definition of institutional violence and coercion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Individuals, left alone, cooperate."
That statement is in direct opposition to the foundation of the conservative world view Curt. I was not aware that you are a liberal.
However I disagree with you about markets. Markets are not people. Markets and business do not have moral code to guide them. Their only real guide is profits. Without that they cease to exist.
In the absence of law and regulation business can and will do anything to increase their profits.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Markets are inherently peaceful"
That's just not true.
I think a more apt analogy is that "markets are inherently amoral." In other words; if left unregulated markets will do anything to maximize profits. They could create peace yes, and just as soon create war if that were the ticket to stockholder happiness.
Government is absolutely necessary to restrain their infinite greed.
Without coercion, customers must be served, or there are no customers.
That is why amoral businesses REQUIRE government support to protect them from competition.
And you must think government is run by angels and staffed by saints. Or can you tell me how, by some miracle, you think "government" is the only organization that is inherently moral?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No, I don't "think government is run by angels and staffed by saints." It's run by corruptible, flawed, imperfect people, and sometimes worse. I have no illusions about that. I don't believe it's "inherently moral" or inherently immoral. It is whatever it's constituents allow it to be.
Government can and should protect business (and labor) from unfair competition (from sweat shops in China.)
Government can and should protect the environment and the public; from toxic waste dumping..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The "free" market will not stop a business from dumping toxic waste into a river. The "free" market will not prevent a business from exploiting children as labor. The "free" market will not demand that employees have a safe work environment. The "free" market does nothing to protect consumers until after someone get injured or killed. The "free" market socializes risk and privatizes the reward. The "free" market corrupts government and rapes the taxpayers.
You are making the same mistake over and over. A private firm is liable for any damages they cause. That's why government stopped people from prosecuting for pollution. It was inhibiting their campaign contributors.
Government has "sovereign immunity", which is why police are almost never prosecuted for murder, why Lon Horiuchi is still a free man, why government pollutes worse than any private firm ever did.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"A private firm is liable for any damages they cause."
That's true. Before laws and regulations existed restricting dumping industrial toxic waste (for example) however, that was not true. How can you be held liable for something that is legal?
A business can and will do what it wants with impunity in the absence of regulation.
The government has not "stopped people from prosecuting pollution." Private citizens and groups sue business and the EPA all the time.
You really have not read anything on the subject, have you?
Pollution was being prosecuted by property owners as trespassing in the middle of the 19th century, effectively. The government STEPPED IN AND STOPPED IT, saying that it was "retarding industry".
Why do you continue to state pro-government myths that have been disproven over and over?
You're still not paying attention. The prosecutions for trespass were for ANY pollution, which is far and away stronger than ANY present regulations that merely point out how much pollution is OK.
By what leap of imagination do you think Kyoto is not just more government intervention in favor of vested interests? Merely different vested interests than Bush's handlers.
So some people are nasty, private or government. Ok.
Now, government compels "customers", and extracts tribute whether they do their job or not, and uses sovereign immunity when it causes damage to avoid prosecution.
Private firms must serve their customers, or they go out of business, and have no immunity from prosecution for damages they cause.
In which group are nasty people capable of doing more harm?
Hundreds of millions of dead people wait on your answer.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Private firms must serve their customers"
Absolutely. I think they also have a duty to their employees (to furnish a safe work environment), to the local community (to report and clean up any pollution), to the consumer, to their own stockholders, even to other businesses.
First you say that government is corruptible, flawed and imperfect.
Then you say it "should" do this and "should" do that.
Therefore, you must think that all this corruption can be somehow overcome to do the things YOU think it "should" do. Pray, tell me why YOUR government, against every experience of human nature and history, is going to not be "corruptible, flawed, imperfect"?
I can shun such people in a free market. When they are a government, shunning them will get me killed.
"In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one party of the citizens to give to the other." Voltaire
You assume that you can make government better. So do I. You are welcome to any and all governance you want in your own life, and I want to be left alone.
The only government model which satisfies us both is no government at all. So long as power can be used to coerce, someone is harmed.

So when the town of Dover can't afford to plow their roads in the winter, or repair them in the summer because people like you "don't see why" you should have to pay for things like that....they can simply reply;
"well we plowed the roads once, do we have to do it every year?"
Maybe you should privative the roads? Then you won't have to pay for them to be plowed or repaired right?
I love when you do that. Usually I just let you look like a jerk. So where do you imagine that money extorted from the masses, with threat of personal damages & eventually gunpoint, goes? Your sarcastic take on what the free market actually is, is pretty pathetic. I'm actually afraid that you wouldn't even understand if I explained, so I won't waste my time. Nicely said. I agree. He's a very "in the box" type guy. I only hope he gets to figure out that he's part of the problem, but I doubt it. Lumpsters, you do know he's just a miserable sad little troll; correct? Let's just keep watching his comments. Sadly, perhaps gladly, he'll never change. As for my grandchildren, Hawaii was wonderful. We stayed at the family compund and had a smashing 2 weeks! I'll try to smuggle you that flora from my yard we mentioned but the Feds have some silly rule about it. I'll bring you some in the spring or summer when we come to visit the Free State. Almost 6 AM here. I better hit the road.
Are you kidding Suzann? He doesn't even know we're Jewish :p I've already had my fun. He needs to go back to watching dancing with the stars or American Idol, or being a cop or whatever he does. Thank you for all that you mentioned and I'm most pleased you had such a wonderful time! Coolers get high priority in customs, another "extortion" part of travel, you will likely only get away with less the 1/2 of what you bring. Trust me on that. Use the other option we discussed. ttul! =)

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I suppose you would think so. Let's just say the feeling is mutual. Insults are a waste of typing space though.
What I really want is to have a better understanding of what it is exactly libertarians believe, why you believe it, and where you get your information and talking points from.
That might sometimes come secondary to knocking holes in your theories, slinging mud at your heroes, refuting your "facts", ridiculing your agenda, and generally disrupting your conversation.
You don't shoot holes in anything but rather you further identify your ignorance in front of a bunch of people who think you are a fool for remaing such. I really do not care for the insults here on youtube but you really ask for it with your ignorance. You really act like a fool who will follow everything that the state or anoyone in supposed authority hands you. That is truly a weak mind. What is even more odd, is that you continue repeating your insanity over and over and over again.
"a fool who will fool everything the state hands you."
Yeah, the state should promote the general welfare of the citizenry. I don't apologize for believing that.
Many libertarians believe that the flawless perfection of the "free" market (if only it were allowed to exist!) would lead humanity to some kind of utopia, the land of milk and honey and everlasting peace!
That fits well with your definition of a weak mind.
Why I even bothered with you is my own fault. You are one of the most disgusting people I've ever seen on here. Your mind is so rotten, filled with bull and disillusionment that any of these people who truly (and I do mean TRULY) understand freedom, who waste their time trying to educate your stupid self is... well... it is certainly beyond me. You sit and wait for a chance to unload on these people who are trying to save your state but you ignorantly fight and fight.
I don't really care though. I'm in California. My state is gone; our freedoms are all gone. I'm a grandmothe of 15 (the worst one gets no less than B's) children and we can not even homeschool here or we get guns and government taking out children from us. You have no idea who and what you say. You were given two ears and one mouth for a reason. You need to learn from these people. You rotten human being.
"a better understanding of what it is exactly libertarians believe, why you believe it,"
Yet you continue to ignore every referral to documentation, every suggestion for reading material, and every argument given to you which answers this supposed "desire" to learn.
The fact that I have to constantly refute myths that were pointed out months ago shows that your desire to learn is illusionary.
Why remove the snow? Why are people trying to use fair-weather vehicles in winter, anyway?
Let the local businesses come together and organize removal of the snow from the major roads, where they need trucks to get their products, and then individuals can decide if they want to remove snow from their local roads or not.
There are lots of answers that are not economically viable with government already removing snow. Hayak called that "What is unseen."
I suppose if we register our vehicles (trailers etc.) do we not give the state co-ownership? I'll answer with "yes, we absolutely do". What a great scam they have going don't they? I believe people need to show up at her court date. Perhaps to help her get he money back from the state who extorted from her so she could get her property back after they stole it. I like this lady & her attitude. Count me in as a supporter! Let's not let them "handcuff her in front of her daughter".
Way to drag your child into this. Your children should be taken away from you.

Try Roderick Long's discussion on the subject:

"Individuals, left alone, cooperate."
That statement is in direct opposition to the foundation of the conservative world view Curt. I was not aware that you are a liberal.
However I disagree with you about markets. Markets are not people. Markets and business do not have moral code to guide them. Their only real guide is profits. Without that they cease to exist.
In the absence of law and regulation business can and will do anything to increase their profits.
fczwartek 3 years ago
That's why I'm not a "conservative".
You know nothing about business. Only governments can compel payment. Without compulsion, customers MUST be served. Not the other way around.

"Markets are inherently peaceful"
That's just not true.
I think a more apt analogy is that "markets are inherently amoral." In other words; if left unregulated markets will do anything to maximize profits. They could create peace yes, and just as soon create war if that were the ticket to stockholder happiness.
Government is absolutely necessary to restrain their infinite greed.
fczwartek 3 years ago
Without coercion, customers must be served, or there are no customers.
That is why amoral businesses REQUIRE government support to protect them from competition.
And you must think government is run by angels and staffed by saints. Or can you tell me how, by some miracle, you think "government" is the only organization that is inherently moral?
Government is a murdering parasite. Nothing more.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 6

No, I don't "think government is run by angels and staffed by saints." It's run by corruptible, flawed, imperfect people, and sometimes worse. I have no illusions about that. I don't believe it's "inherently moral" or inherently immoral. It is whatever it's constituents allow it to be.
Government can and should protect business (and labor) from unfair competition (from sweat shops in China.)
Government can and should protect the environment and the public; from toxic waste dumping..
fczwartek 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
The "free" market will not stop a business from dumping toxic waste into a river.
Whatever delivers the profit.

"Whatever delivers the profit."

"A private firm is liable for any damages they cause."
That's true. Before laws and regulations existed restricting dumping industrial toxic waste (for example) however, that was not true. How can you be held liable for something that is legal?
A business can and will do what it wants with impunity in the absence of regulation.
The government has not "stopped people from prosecuting pollution." Private citizens and groups sue business and the EPA all the time.
fczwartek 3 years ago
"Before laws and regulations existed..."
CurtHowland 3 years ago 5
"The government said it (environmental regulation) was retarding industry."
Which is essential the same argument that the Bush administration used to kill the Kyoto treaty.
Hardcore pro-business bureaucrats and politicians will make industry interests their #1 priority, even at the expense of the public good.
However, I hope you don't think that environmental regulations were stronger (and more effective) in the 19th century than they are today.
fczwartek 3 years ago
You're still not paying attention. The prosecutions for trespass were for ANY pollution, which is far and away stronger than ANY present regulations that merely point out how much pollution is OK.
By what leap of imagination do you think Kyoto is not just more government intervention in favor of vested interests? Merely different vested interests than Bush's handlers.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 4
So some people are nasty, private or government. Ok.
Now, government compels "customers", and extracts tribute whether they do their job or not, and uses sovereign immunity when it causes damage to avoid prosecution.
Private firms must serve their customers, or they go out of business, and have no immunity from prosecution for damages they cause.
In which group are nasty people capable of doing more harm?
Hundreds of millions of dead people wait on your answer.

"Private firms must serve their customers"
Absolutely. I think they also have a duty to their employees (to furnish a safe work environment), to the local community (to report and clean up any pollution), to the consumer, to their own stockholders, even to other businesses.
fczwartek 3 years ago
Then only patronize those firms that act as you wish them to. They will do so to earn your business, and the business of those who are of like minds.
Government gives no such latitude. Regardless of my disagreement with their practices, I must pay what they say I owe, or be killed.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 6
First you say that government is corruptible, flawed and imperfect.
Then you say it "should" do this and "should" do that.
Therefore, you must think that all this corruption can be somehow overcome to do the things YOU think it "should" do. Pray, tell me why YOUR government, against every experience of human nature and history, is going to not be "corruptible, flawed, imperfect"?
I can shun such people in a free market. When they are a government, shunning them will get me killed.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 4
I wish the world existed in the black and white contrast that you apparently view it in.
Unfortunately for us all, it doesn't.
Government is a tool for promoting the general welfare, providing for the common defense, and "securing the blessings of liberty" ect.
At the same time governments can ruin lives, destroy people, even nations.
I want to make government work better, be more responsive to the will of the people.
You want to destroy it.
fczwartek 3 years ago
Yes, government is a tool.
Why not live and let live? Really?

"It's been registered once I don't see why we have to do it every year."
So when the town of Dover can't afford to plow their roads in the winter, or repair them in the summer because people like you "don't see why" you should have to pay for things like that....they can simply reply;
"well we plowed the roads once, do we have to do it every year?"
Maybe you should privative the roads? Then you won't have to pay for them to be plowed or repaired right?
The free market to the rescue!

Again another unfounded comment.
Just know that you really look like a jerk in front of a bunch of people truly far above your level.

Nicely said. I agree. He's a very "in the box" type guy. I only hope he gets to figure out that he's part of the problem, but I doubt it. I've seen many of his comments here before as well and he's arrogant (without anything to back it up)... I suspect you will get more idiocy from him. He thinks he's right, let him imagine he is and see where it gets him. How are the grandchildren? Are they all back from Hawaii yet? I'll bet they had a blast!

You couldn't resist either could you? It's too bad he's such a dud. I've got friends in customs, we'll be fine but thank you. We may take our son's plane as well, if it is available at that time. I have to get out on the 805 right now and I'm not excited about it. Well, let's just see what this buffon has to vomit out next. Let's keep talking in the usual way, I'd hate to hurt his feelings (kidding).

May I recommend for you a prescription dose of the Alex Jones show with the requisite amount of with Jew bashing, democracy despising, conspiracy peddling, and "free" market worshiping to help return you to your libertarian stupor.

AwakenedByTyranny 3 years ago 4
Are you kidding Suzann? He doesn't even know we're Jewish :p I've already had my fun. He needs to go back to watching dancing with the stars or American Idol, or being a cop or whatever he does. Thank you for all that you mentioned and I'm most pleased you had such a wonderful time! Coolers get high priority in customs, another "extortion" part of travel, you will likely only get away with less the 1/2 of what you bring. Trust me on that. Use the other option we discussed. ttul! =)

So?
fczwartek 3 years ago
You don't shoot holes in anything but rather you further identify your ignorance in front of a bunch of people who think you are a fool for remaing such. I really do not care for the insults here on youtube but you really ask for it with your ignorance. You really act like a fool who will follow everything that the state or anoyone in supposed authority hands you. That is truly a weak mind. What is even more odd, is that you continue repeating your insanity over and over and over again.
AwakenedByTyranny 3 years ago 4
"a fool who will fool everything the state hands you."
Yeah, the state should promote the general welfare of the citizenry. I don't apologize for believing that.
Many libertarians believe that the flawless perfection of the "free" market (if only it were allowed to exist!) would lead humanity to some kind of utopia, the land of milk and honey and everlasting peace!
That fits well with your definition of a weak mind.
fczwartek 3 years ago
Why I even bothered with you is my own fault. You are one of the most disgusting people I've ever seen on here. Your mind is so rotten, filled with bull and disillusionment that any of these people who truly (and I do mean TRULY) understand freedom, who waste their time trying to educate your stupid self is... well... it is certainly beyond me. You sit and wait for a chance to unload on these people who are trying to save your state but you ignorantly fight and fight.
AwakenedByTyranny 3 years ago 3
I don't really care though. I'm in California. My state is gone; our freedoms are all gone. I'm a grandmothe of 15 (the worst one gets no less than B's) children and we can not even homeschool here or we get guns and government taking out children from us. You have no idea who and what you say. You were given two ears and one mouth for a reason. You need to learn from these people. You rotten human being.
AwakenedByTyranny 3 years ago 4
"a better understanding of what it is exactly libertarians believe, why you believe it,"
Yet you continue to ignore every referral to documentation, every suggestion for reading material, and every argument given to you which answers this supposed "desire" to learn.
The fact that I have to constantly refute myths that were pointed out months ago shows that your desire to learn is illusionary.

On Snow Removal, since you bring it up:
Why remove the snow? Why are people trying to use fair-weather vehicles in winter, anyway?
Let the local businesses come together and organize removal of the snow from the major roads, where they need trucks to get their products, and then individuals can decide if they want to remove snow from their local roads or not.
There are lots of answers that are not economically viable with government already removing snow. Hayak called that "What is unseen."
