Your way is OK. And your jig invention is ok. Yet when you have 15 scissors to sharpen in 30 minutes and if one is a pro. then working off the side of the stone is much better since its flat. It is not logical to work from the rounded part of the stone. Also working with the rotation coming towards me is not logical either(due to very high angle wrecks the wheel etc.Also making one of the edges 1000 & the other 4000 grit works really good on the tormek.
Thank you Jeff for all of your assistance over the years. If anyone is considering a TORMEK, Jeff is your guy. I bought mine over ten years ago at a woodworking show from Jeff, and couldn't be happier. I use it for everything except my Japanese chisels which I prefer a traditional sharpening
