The chord progression of the verse is exactly the same as the end of Friends Lovers or Nothing, so he probably won't release this song on an album. He'd effectively be doing two songs which are the same. And John Mayer doesn't tend to do that.

great song..i don't think he shouldve used the chord progression for the friends lovers or nothing outro though..I feel like he wasted it by doing that. I wouldve loved to see it on an album but he most likely won't be doing that now

This video was during a small gig before the continuum release. So as he explained it was not going to be on the continuum album (probably because of Columbia Records when he turned in his master copy to them which they most likely sent back to him for cuts). So he intended it to be on battle studies ( "the album after the new one") but instead used that same chord progression in the outro to "Friends Lovers or Nothing", making a studio album release of this song unlikely.
