SinDrome 6! What an amazing eye and ear you have! This film means more ot me than just a campy musical from my early youth. You captured the "Magic" of the film as I always viewed it! So much so, with your permission, that I included your clip in my weekly film blog CINEMA: COUNTERPOINT in wich I discuss dancing in musicals! I had to include XANADU and couldn't have found a more perfect tribute to my thoughts and feelings about this film! Thank you so very much! - Jer :)
Actually,Tom King is credited as the one who started the group,spun-off from his previous band Tom King and Starfires, but it is his younger brother Don(who I have known for the better part of a decade)that had a large hand in getting Tom started in the music business and helped his younger brother to create the band that would be known as "The Outsiders".Unfortunately, history hasn't given Don his due, which Tom King confirmed for me while I visited him at a hospice where he recently passed on
I totally agree with the grease statement I used to love grease but when I saw Xanadu for the first time that's what started my olivia newton john phase oh and you can watch xanadu on netflix if anybody wants to know

OMG-!!! Did u WIN the contest..??!! U SOOOO should've- the mixing, the editing.... SHEER GENUIS...!! Thank u SOO much!!! I dressed in 80's gear- on roller skates- to get discount tickets for a preview of the Bway musical!!
A great recipe! Add the incredible Olivia, (even without a great script), the amazing Gene Kelly dancing and then mix in some awesome music from the star and ELO and you have Xanadu. i love it!
Cursed audio spam! After the video finishes, some LOUD tire spam comes on and the only way to get it to shut up is to close the window! God, I hate YouTube executives!
would love to have this video on my computer so can put on my daughter's mp3 player. My oldest daughter is autistic and loves music and this is one of her favorite movies.
Yes! Finally. Something with a Magic sequence in it. I've been looking everywhere for something like this. Where has it been for the past few weeks? And I love what you done with the song. That rythem is so sexy. Now, of course, I like this movie for Olivia Newton-Jhon. But I got to give Gene Kelly credit. I've never seen a man his age who could move like that.
@tangoatwill .....are you serious!? This movie was totally brutal!! Just ask Olivia Newton-John, she'll tell you that as well. Soundtrack is amazing though.
@Sheldon66 Yes of course. ;) I don't know about the behind the scenes if that's what you mean by brutal. But, i simply enjoyed the concept of this film. A dreamy romantic film, and the music was great. I don't go by popular opinion. I go by how a film made me feel at the time. Grease is just about high school. Gene Kelly was fab too. ;)
SinDrome6 : Your project did a wonderful job of recreating the essence of the movie. I went to the movie in 80, and I to too still love it 30 years later. It still is nice on vinyl, but you caught almost all of it. Glad I found it today. David
@Djlavagirl The song is called "Drum Dreams" by ELO. I just cut some of the redundant sections of the track and rearranged a few parts to create what you heard.
My daughter performed inXanadu at drama camp in Chicago this summer, she had a blast,I can't wait for her to get the video will have to post it. Love this movie, don't make feel good musicals like this anymore.
The scene at :53 where Gene Kelly and Micheal Beck are talking about what type of club they should have was great. When they merged those two songs it was worth the price of admission. I thought that moment of genius alone was worth watching this movie. I love ELO to this day, and Olivia is soooo smoking hot!
Wow! I don't need to watch the movie, this has all the best parts in it. Great job. I've heard folks say this was a really hokey movie but goodness help me I liked it.
I've always wondered if those snippets she performed at the finale were ever full songs in their own right. They packed a lot of tunes into the end which you only hear in the movie.
Wouldn't it be great if they released the tracks that didn't make it onto the original soundtrack on a deluxe CD set?
I've been looking for Xanadu's grand opening number (one of its best) for awhile and was delighted to see it included in your homage to the film!
This movie, although not the best I've ever seen, was a rousing success in all the aspects which make a musical work, and Gene Kelly was having a blast!! Not once was he anything less than a gentleman and portrayed a role worthy of respect.
Thank you for a fine compilation: you didn't miss a beat!!!
I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT! A real passionate fan made video tribute. To bad you didn't enter the contest. I'm sure you would have been in the top 3. :-)
Xanadu is one of my guilty little pleasures to. I really enjoyed the video. The title track at the end is so great with ELO i have to listen to it twice. I tell you what Olivia is fucking hot. I'd have shagged it but i was only 10 in 1980.
Don't worry baby. It's one of mine to. It's a classic in the sense that you saw early breakdancing, the impact of the future music video and that the message is eternal in the sense that if you want something and you work hard to make it a reality, it can exist.
Aww. That's just because Xanadu is a neglected classic and Grease will never ever die or go away. If it was the opposite you'd probably THINK the opposite. ;) It's ALL great!
Wow! This is REALLY good! You mixed some other good 80's backbeats in there that really made it even better. I heard a little Kim Carnes in there and some Adam Ant along with Stars on 45 and I would swear there was even a Human League backbeat in there. Great job! They just don't make great stuff like this any more that is just meant to make you feel good and leave you with a smile. :)
Very nicely done! Almost makes me want to open my still-sealed dvd and actually watch the movie....almost! As much I enjoy this film, I still shake my head at the casting of Michael Beck! Wasn't Tony Danza available?! (sarcasm)
