• oh my gosh he is HUGE! I love it

  • wow ,that is all i have to say wow

  • I saw this ride in person in '91 (front row). It absolutely gave me goose bumps then and it still does now.

  • does anybody know if giftes was out of the grozo z line? i think grozzo was one of the grat stallions like donnerhall.

  • Name says it all...The horse is definitely the Gifted one of the two.

  • To all those Negative Nellies out there:

I'd like to see you ride him better. I bet you haven't gotten past Training Level...

    Stunning pair.

  • I saw this Team at the Pam Am selection back in the early 90's They were AMAZING. It brought tears to your eyes to watch. Carol's Dad was the Night WatchMan, he'd sleep in the stall with Gifted when they travelled. They were America's Best.

  • Stunning horse. Why did he pass at such a young age though? :(

  • les gens i rigole kan le chveal tombe dan l'eau je voi pa ia koi dz marran

  • The horse might have been gifted but the rider is not, windshield wipper type legs .... Good grief how do people get to that level and ride like that ... it is even worse nowdays .... sad

  • I saw them at the National Horse Show NYC back then. Such a big horse, with big talent. They made me cry, it was so beautiful. RIP Gifted.

  • not sloppy, but not correct.

    a bit of a chairseat.

  • I cannot believe someone said "sloppy seat".

Carol has an effin' ROCK SOLID seat.

  • I loved this horse and rider as a kid... still get a lil Misty over him. He had so much personality.

  • ok this horse is my life ok

    he is humungus

  • brilliant horse:):)

  • OMG......awsome horse!.... =]

  • WOW!!

  • that was amazing.

    huge horse! woahh...she rode brilliantly.

and the music ...well... i loved it.

anyone know what it is called?

    x

  • Yes, he has a somewhat long back, even for his size, however, it is emphasized by Ms. Lavell's size as well- she is small to average height.

  • And while he is engaged in the piaffe, he is not very expressive. Look at some of the footage of Seldom Seen from the same time. Gifted's hind feet are barely moving in comparison. It's still gorgeous, but American dressage has improved so much in the last 16 years that it would be interesting to see where this team scored against some of today's top riders.

  • Long backed horses are not prone to injury. Carol did not have a sloppy seat. The horse was well engaged in piaffe. He does not look like a Clydesdale. He was a heavier type of warmblood. Ms. Lavel said very often that he was very light to ride. He was by the legendary Garibaldi who was a great sire.

  • A gorgeous ride...and the music just gives me goosebumps!

  • Thanks for sharing this.

  • You wouldn't expect these movements out of such a hefty horse.

  • Why did he die so young?!?!

  • HE's gorgeous, and she's a great rider(well duh-you have to be to be riding at DEVON). I think his long back makes him unique. Normally horses w/long backs are undisireable b/c cause they are more prome to injury- BU NON THE LESS, HE"S TRUELY GIFTED

  • Gifted was enormous! Although gifted none the less.

  • long back? he's just huge!!! notice how broad his chest is? hpe all the commenters remember this was 1991!!! give credit where credits due!

  • Naw, he's huge but he still has a l-o-n-g back!

  • They're beautiful together, people horse or not. They could not be more stunning. Does anyone else notice his long back?

  • Oh, and is this the original music?

  • This was Gifted PSG MFS and the original music was removed due to copyright. I have the soundtack CD Somewhere? Robin Hood ?

  • What did they place at Devon 1991?

  • Gifted Place First, Not sure I have the score.

  • I look at my Gifted video files, Gifted 1st Place with a score of 73.185%

  • Gifted was a great horse and Carol a wonderful rider. You can't make everyone happy all of the time and it is the judgemental people who are annoying. Please, if you find a flawless Dressage horse and rider, do tell. We would love to see what you base you'r opinion on.

  • PLEASE WRITE TO YOUR Federal SENATORS TO PASS THE HORSE PROTECTION ACT THAT NEEDS TO PASS TO PREVENT SLAUGHTER OF THESE ANIMALS for HUMAN CONSUMPTION. THEY GIVE SO MUCH, IT HAS PASSED THE HOUSE, AND NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT UP AND PASSED IN THE SENATE, bills S-1915 AND S-311, and horses INHUMANELY transported to Canada and Mexico for Slaughter needs to be stopped

  • what are you talking about? Do you know who they are?

  • Does someone's fame effect their ability?

  • This horse is not engaged in piaffe. The rider has a sloppy seat.

  • Come back to comment on Gifted when you know something. <hand dismissal>

  • I know I good piaffe when I see one.

  • Carol does NOT have a sloppy seat, for his size, no - for any horse Gifted has a good piaffe, his back feet clear the ground and he sits, have you ever ridden anything his size? Do you even ride the upper levels? It is really hard work, and I mentioned who they were b/c we all know they are confirmed Champions at Grand Prix, the rest of the world can see the reality,as can all the judges world wide that gave them high scores.

  • a sloppy seat, that is still making me laugh, how silly of you

  • Maybe so...I believe the horse could be more engaged in his piaffe. I've seen better, that's all. Why should it bother you so much. I have ridden warmbloods of his size. But I would rather be out riding than jusifying my comments to you. I have little time for this. Don't you have something better to do?

  • Maybe so... it is hard to ride warmbloods of his size.

He doesn't "sit" in the piafffe. What are you taking about? I've seen better.

I have little time for this. I would rather be out riding wouldn't you?

  • Already done that this morning. :)

  • I rode ten horses today, so yeah did that today as well, dressage is something that takes practice and years of understanding, good luck on your journey

  • "he doesn't sit in the piaffe"

Neither does any of Anky's horses.

  • Obviously not. He was 17.3 and that was a great piaffe for of horse of his size. His feet clear he is sitting what more do you want aside from thinking you know it all. he was horse of the year so your opinion means little in the scheme of things now doesn't it?

  • he was incredible and so sweet. remember though that carol is a peanut of a woman but she can ride even the powerful Gifted!

  • Gifted was not a people horse, Carol and Tom called him Snapper because he liked to bite soooo much. Much Ado is a people horse. He's very ticlish but loves his faced rubbed with a towel.

  • amazing... i can not belive he is just a hanoverian he looks like a clydesdale

  • special & beauitful ♥ is this the original music?

  • WOW, I worked at this horse show that year......how wonderful to see this again!

  • lovely and this was the year i was born :)

  • oh mannnnn, i met carol at a dressage clinic before Gifted died.. this is such a bittersweet video. Thank you for sharing.. i wonder if Carol has seen it?? i know she loved him so....

  • This music makes me cry for some reason. I guess just because the horse is dead and he was so stunning...I don't know, but whatever it is, I need a tissue.

  • ME TOO.

  • so beatitfull one day ill rise like this!

  • wow he is stunning! and very very big! how tall was he?

  • 17.3hh

  • He is so big!

  • beautiful horse! Although he looks a little long in the back. But it might be the video. thanks for sharing!

  • Gifted was not a stallion when Carol rode him. He was a gelding.

  • Corrected Error...

  • wow..hes wonderful...

  • the size of him!! O_O and there isnt that much of carol either! what a beautiful combination :D

  • You know, it just struck me that Gifted is only 11 in this vid. You can certainly see his greater maturity in the 1995 Devon performance (it is in my favorites under Dressage), but at 11, he has all the power, relaxation plus the technical refinement that I like.

Does anyone have any old video of Keen and Hilda Gurney from the early 80's? I saw them at an exhibition in the mid-80's in DC. I think that was when the dresage bug bit me ;)

  • I must say this was an amazing video.. Dressage is so beautiful and I think thats why I love it so much.. Your horse was absolutly gorgeous.. From the minute the video started I was hooked and by the time it was over I had goosebumps.. Just amazing!! :-)

  • The music is from SmartSound audio tracks that only work with the video editing program I use. The music is from Cinematic Excellent "Title" Silken.

    Ralph

  • do you know where i can download it?

  • What is the name of that song?? I really want it..

  • wow what an amazing animal! to go from and an extended trot rght to a piaff (sp) is crazy! I want to have abs like the rdier has :p

  • He really was gifted and so many people got pleasure from watching him .

  • That extended canter was beautiful. And the flying changes were really nicely done. They rider and horse do amazing together. And I love all the piaffes they did! Magnificent

  • Wow..absolutly incredible, he truly was gifted. He's so in tune to the rider as well. Simply amazing, had me in a total trance.

  • I can't believe you have this! Gifted was a magnificent horse. This is beautiful.

  • The moment I saw this horse trot I was enthralled. What an amazing pair. This is definitely why I love Dressage.

  • wooow... That is one of the most beautiful things there is... Amazing video!! :-)

  • What a magnificent horse and amazing rider, great duo and great video!

  • It's very late...this music, this beautiful horse, this constant gallop, dance - mesmerized me. I need to favorite this one to visit again when I know I need it. Thxs to Crusader18 for forwarding it.

  • Beautiful,i love the music.
