Yes you can. By connecting the base of the transistor to the circuit, you could effectively bypass the limited amount of current available from the micro controller.
To test the stability and consistency of the code. It's called a "monkey test' if I'm not mistaken. The idea is to use the controller in a manner not intended, to find bugs and what not.
gut a baby toy that when you move the toy it makes sound - incorperate it into a computer tower so whenever someone nudges the tower it makes that noise :D haha - may be overkill but would be fun to do - you just gave me the idea lol thanks

question 1 - can you turn them all off/on conveniently?
2- what do the other buttons on the black controller do
3 - how much did this cost?
thankyou!
:)

There are several ways you could turn them all on or off.
1) Program another button to enable/disable all outputs
2) Program the same button to enable/disable when held for a period of time or double clicked.
3) Unplug the power cord

The other buttons are for other functions on a separate controllers

The cost including the custom button bar was around $100 , but I had to order 100 of those button bars.

omg this is awesome!. can you do one with more serious stuff, like have transistors powering a bigger load on each output of each led?

How cool would that be if it went off every time you scrolled your mouse up or down. Would be hard (if not impossible) to incorperate it though.
