  • "lets go in the next room and shag"....

  • @20centjes sorry mate, but Gary Jules copied Tears For Fears, so if anything Tears For Fears copied Cat Stevens and Gary Jules did a cover of Tears For Fears.

  • This guy was, is and will be a legend forever !!!

  • Got to be the strangest performance I've ever seen .... singer and audience look as if they've both turned up on the wrong night in the wrong place .....

  • i wished Steven Demetre Georgiou had followed his singing heart instead of his beliefs,

he was too talented to just sit and pray

  • There's no way the creators of Austin Powers did not see this.

  • Happy lot in the seats !!!!!

  • @joshjazant3 Yea it's almost as if they have been told not to look at him. The guy sitting next to where he is standing at the end really looks as if he is trying to pretend he isn't there. Then he looks like he can't be arsed clapping at the end.

  • Working all day all day. Hahaha.

  • @20centjes yeah you right well spotted, never noticed that before :-/

  • I am so used to seeing him sitting on a stool singing while playing his guitar. I am so enjoying these early videos to see him moving around a bit.

  • @20centjes I'm glad I'm not the only one that hears this song in Tears For Fears Mad World

  • solid

  • Fucking love this song, I was Honestly Born a generation to late. Sometimes I wish I was born in the 1950s so, I lived through this. Instead I was born in 1995

  • still as good today as it was when I was 23!

  • wow that is a really shit video

  • The cats in this are like statues

  • 0:55. I'm grooving but is anybody watching?

  • 5 people never consumed a slice of cheese.

  • Groovy tune but was the audience dead.

  • I didn't know this song goes back to the mid-sixties.

  • @chester57ify your mother used to like to get shagged to this song the dirty hoare

  • @petertownend hope she had a good time. You'd better revise your spelling, by the way. Have a good wank

  • @chester57ify th'a now't but a bellend.

  • @petertownend there's two of us then. cheerio

  • This video made me cringe.

  • i agree with mad world sound, tears for fears, just briefly,

  • love the guy in the end scratching his head in utter confusion... priceless!

  • @20centjes I thought the same thing when listening (the Tears for Fears remake came to mind first)

  • Groovy Cat Stevens song.I think so anyway.

  • no wonder he went Islamic

  • It is kind of an awkward song to dance to, isn't it? lol

  • @tman12563 lol yeah. I suppose you could sort of bob up and down on the spot or something but you won't half look like a berk lol

  • That German audience really knew how to enjoy themselves didn't they? No stereotypes there then! :-)

  • @BluntVeritas

You swine ! I will have you know that the German sense of humour..is no laughing matter !!

  • Yes this is very Austin Powers isn't it.....yikes, thank God he got pneumonia and re-invented himself as bearded introspective folkie.... :-)

  • Matthew & Son should of rhymed with 'Capitalist Scum'.

  • Matthew & Son probably moved to China, and hired children as cheap labour.

  • @prben2 - They rpobably did! .. and moved their call centre to India too! :-)

  • cat stevens and zombies

  • This song is wasted on that audience.

  • He was brilliant. Dynamite in fact, and some of those songs he penned still stand out today. It's a shame religion had to ruin it. But, then again we should not be to surprised. Religion, money and drugs - guaranteed to lose you popularity.

  • This song is brilliant, years ahead of its time ... and the audience

  • @ianasdfg . Yep still remeber it as a hit when I was 10 - but its lyric are brilliant , timing is manic ( as would the factory be ) and very much a ground breaker. Still think he is a genius!

  • I like this

  • And now he is a muslim! Mashallah!

  • @MyFatime But now he is a modern muslim. When terrorist murder your

family, he always blames Israel, it's not their fault.

    Islam = Death Cult

  • the german's are trained to hate the british & the westerner's just like the French ass's

  • haha I just noticed how awkward that guy seems to be feeling at 2:36

  • love love love this track wow such a shame he moved away

  • This is a Beardless Cat Stevens,Eons before he became Usef Islam,in 1967..I like this version of him better than his Hairy Self a year later.

  • why aren't the girls all over him. lmao this could never have happened today...

  • @lahgazi People exercised restraint.

  • Days gone. Gee he was good.

  • ces hill and son, he never asks for more money, he just wants beers.

  • I love this. Every one looks so bored. He was sure a cutie. Such a difference between then and now.

  • Comment removed

  • French version by Claude François.

  • @kenpomed wow that's mature.

  • the audience look like they were waiting for a lecture

  • @MrHendrix1959 They look like they don't know who the freak with the jitters is.

  • @CrankCase02 its probably one of your family members yoi inbred cunt

  • @MrHendrix1959 Right! They all worked at Matthew and Son...

  • @MrHendrix1959

It was filmed in Germany.....Maybe Ms. Merkel was in the audience!

    Stiglaa xx

  • what a SWEET song

I looooooooooovvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee you cat to death >>>>>>>>>>>>(^_^)

  • i was 3rth years old .Many years after i heard this song and i realize that i was before a pop phenomena .Wonderfull cover but short substance

  • those were the days! smoke some mary and screw who u wanted!!!!

  • Brill song, great performance ! but why the hell does the audience look so bloody miserable, is what I want to know. Maybe it wasn't cool in those days to smile, oh well ..... kinda catching watching that lot ! ( : <

  • fantastic

  • Holy moly! I had no idea it was the famous Cat Stevens who did this fabulous song!

  • its no grocer jack

  • I love the way the audience doesn't try to catch their six minutes of fame - that era, where everyone wants to be a star, put their hands up in the air and shout woo woo, thankfully hadn't started yet. Audiences behaved almost respectfully at times, as if they were listening to the lyrics - that's the influence of folk music, which was still strong, and when songs had more social comment in them. The lyric is fairly obviously commenting on the relentless monotony of industrial life.

  • @philjquitt So right

  • The audience looks so fricken bored

  • those dancers are getting down

  • A very sixties song! Thanks for posting a hugely memorable song.

  • Now we know where Austin Powers got his dress sense!!!!!!!!! wow. He just needs glasses.

  • I've never thought of Cat Stevens in terms o "hotness", but he was QUITE good-looking, before the beard and all...

  • Cat , Yosuf both beautiful.

  • We listened this song in English class :D

  • the best of his songs

  • My dad was named Matthew Becuse of this song lol.

  • cattastic

  • what on earth - were the crowd listening to the same song??

  • You hear the sound from 1.36-1.45 it sounds a bit like someone may of taken it as influence on the Mad World track.

  • @QPRLAD86 You connected with someone who hears the same.

  • @QPRLAD86

TOTALLY!!!!! I am surprised Cat didnt ever sue for infringement. Its such an obvious rip off.

  • it totally does! @QPRLAD86

  • It's hard to believe this is Cat what a personal journey he has been on love him.

  • Cat Stevens was lip-syncing for this performance, I think the producers made him do it...

  • Cool song and video

  • and I have to say congratulations to the guy and girl at 0:43 for helping with the cord and for making out like nothing at all happened, bravo.

  • the funiest music video I have ever seen, top stuff.

  • does anyone notice that at 1:36 to 1:47 it sounds very familiar to Mad World by Tears for Fears and covered by Gary Jules played in Donnie Darko!

anyways, i love this song i wish he still performed

  • @serena1523 Yes it does! and i love you btw!

  • @serena1523

    Yeah I noticed it too...

  • @serena1523 yes, I've noticed too

  • PSML at that guy sat next to him at the end!

  • HA HA HA! He got his mic wire tangled around somebody's seat!

  • This doesn't look horribly dated at all, lolz

  • Look at 2:40 - There's Catman singing live and in the flesh and that silly bint is just chatting with her beau as if he's not thee

  • A1 great song

  • Cat in Germany!! I read somewhere he hated these orcheastral re-workings of his guitar penned songs..I kinda like it..Very much of the period...

  • Comment removed

  • Still as awesome in 2010 as it was in 1966. Nice one.

  • Great song but WTF is it with the dancers jeez

  • @bigjohnthered1 Cat's lip-synching, I guess they're foot-synching.

  • good song but hate it when YouTubers insert a track ontop of the the real audio

  • its cos they all sober and it was 11 am !!!!!

  • no wonder its a German crowd

  • the reason the people are like zombies is because they are german. they were still getting over hitler

  • @CenaTv2 in those days you had to, in all of Europe, wear a necktie in order to get into a disco. And I swear - some of the girls who had to wear "correct" skirts were as pretty as to be grandmothers today.

  • A very handsme version of Austin Powers.

  • @rayray0603 The mid 60's was like Austin powers without the comedy!

  • @rayray0603 yeah baby yeah

  • @pictureisup1 oh behave!!!!

  • @rayray0603 Very nice!

  • wow, ive never seen a younger cat...

  • I had to watch this again !! are these people for real ? they guy with the glasses next to Cat looks bored stiff hahaha!! this audience sux !!! poor Cat ,.he was just feeling the music and having a good time .. they didnt appreciate him at all .. dont know why they came .. lol...If he had sat next to me. they wud have carried me out on a stretcher. suffering from CAT HYSTERIA... lol.. anyway thanx for a great post ..x. loved it ... Lyndloo..

  • What incredible! Cat Stevens version 60's. And ever superb!

  • its now Muhammed and son

  • the women of the 60´s had more style

  • @LUKAS309 You seen the bird at 0.98? No style there mate!!!

  • @LUKAS309 Pfft yeh right HAHA! like pointy bra's...

  • Think i work for Matthew & Son but it has been renamed, and does Electrical Contracting

  • I love these old Cat Stevens songs, they are so different to his later ones

  • John Paul Jones was the bassist on this song.

  • he's a deep thinker and you can see this by his songs; his music and words are awesome , deeper and unique in the world. I love cat

  • still the one and only Cat Stevens!

  • god. i usually refrain from commenting on things flippant but the dancers here really take the cake! they ARE zombies!!

  • it's called the sixties

  • Jimmy Page was the session guitarist for the original recording.

  • why are thez fucking people dancing like apes? shaking their butts and heads like they're on freaking acid. shiiiiiit...

  • ummmmmmm. It's 1966. . . They ARE on acid.

  • love this song, but the audience look so fed up, hehe

  • sounds just as good now as it did in the mid 60's , godbless cat stevens

  • It's ironic that this song is truer today than it was 44 years ago.

Thanks to free market global trade BS

  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for Cat Stevens? Yes! Never put down Cat Stevens! Regardless of what GW Bush did, Cat deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

  • Actually, Bush had nothing to do with the world turning on him.

He was the one that said the Fatwa on Rushdie was the appropriate thing- that's why the world turned on him. That happened in 1989- years before Bush came to office.

In fact, 9-11 gave him a second chance, because he came out of hiding and condemned the attack- although he tried to pretend it was not Muslim zealots that carried it out.

  • @brt929 He's a musician. Not a deep thinker

  • I dont know. I know they searched for gold tooth in Saddam's mouth (I saw it on tv) then they hung him for not telling them where he hid his gold tooth.

  • That's a common misconception.

What they were REALLY searching his mouth for were those elusive Weapons of Mass Destruction...

  • Crocodile's teeth may be a weaopn of mass destruction.

Even a president from Texas undrestands that..

Gold is what a genuin Texas (not the Whiski..) searchs: In Alasca, Texas , the Arab peninsula, everywhere includig each resident's mouth. If you dont giv'em gold they hang'ya.

  • Its not "production" it is "Rush for the gold"

  • steady on lad

  • Excellent song, reminds me of when I met my older husband and we called our son Matthew who is still the apple of my eye, thanks cat x

  • Why is cat the only one that looks happy in this video?

  • this was massive hit, the only zombies are you lot lol, are you all americans? yes you must be you dont like the music so just invade it and bomb it like you do the rest of the world you yankie doodle dandie god hating heathens. p.s. there was culture before you americans were sent there as criminals.

  • I find it quite insulting that you assume that all haters are american. "American" describes a large population of people, and not all of them are the same just like how not all people from wherever you are from are the same. America has it's own problems and so do other countries and cultures. So deal with yourself you ignorant pig people like you on the English Island are the reason for the colonies splitting from that country in the first place.(I'm assuming that you live in the UK)

  • All so very polite.. Love the British Stiff Uppler Lip... the reason that the audience all look like zombies is their sheer embarrasment knowing that Cat Stevens is miming to the song...

  • The reason that he is miming is that in the U.K in the 60s it was a legal requirement, live performances were not allowed on T.V

  • I never knew Cat Stevens started off as a mod, just like David Bowie did. Was this song a hit? If it wasn't, it should have been, a great one!

  • yes it was, it reached number 2 on the uk charts when it came out :)

  • This crowd really upset me. Like when the woman at the beginning was just pissed off the mic lead was tangled at her feet. :(

Anyway, I love this performance, so adorable :')

  • 1:36...Mad world?

  • omg, so similar indeed

  • Yes i thought the same

  • @MightySaturn5

    Yesssss, I heard that too!

  • THis song sure described the first job I ever had, Man what a dump.

I thought I would never live again, till I heard this song, and then I knew that the way I had to go was to get into music.

Well I'm still tryin, but like Ringo says, You know it dont come easy.

  • Audience = Zombies , to bad, it's at good song

  • young people knowing they're on TV, trying to look cool... So, what's different from today?

  • well, it's a different between halfdead zombie and look cool on tv

  • No, the Zombies were a group from the 60's also but none of them are in the audience

  • lamest audience ever.

  • not really, that's just how they did things back then

  • i like how he surprises the audience by sitting with them and not be on stage~that shows that he had such style and class back then! i wish other singers can follow him!

  • Man, I haven't heard this in a million years.....

I used to skate around the Paisley Ice Rink to this song as an 8-year old ....It would be slotted in between Dylan's 'Rainy Day Women' and the Who's Substitute....Now the Ice Rink is a supermarket and Dylan and The Who are legends..

  • Is it cat stevens, i think he was around 16 by the time this song was composed.

  • 43 years ago! Think about that.

  • ...and we are still running along platform five-

  • I just love this song! But while poor cats giving it socks , the dancers look like something from night of the living dead and the audience members looked liked they had lost the will to live!!
