We all mute ourselves with layers of makeup (figuratively speaking) and glittery things (again figuratively speaking) but the lyrics contrast that by achingly describing one's innermost thoughts and feelings of loss, lament over things done, not done and undone, and the regret over not sharing it in order to sustain the facade. Its actually quite brilliant
