I think there is a lot of misunderstanding of the bird hitting the propeller. Note that around 1:20 they are slowed down to a speed at which the bird could easily go faster than the aircraft. Aslo, he tossed the bird forward, in a downward angle, to ensure the bird was traveling faster than the aircraft, and well below it. Also, I think the animal is smart enough to reach its trainers hand without being harmed. If it can't see the propeller, or hear it, then it is probably not a very good bird
I can't help but agree with some of the others condemning this behaviour. The hardest thing to come to terms with is harmful ignorance amongst our own. If this is professional and responsible behaviour, get back to us when both monitoring bodies from falconry and aviation have endorsed it. No? Immagine this: let's say your child has the skills an abaility of a falcon. Still safe?
What? you dont honestly think I would do it if I had not tested that it would work first do you? The bird does not go near the prop either landing or taking off. Its the camera angle that makes it look that way. If everyone stuck to all the rules all the time life would be very boring. I am proud of my little bird and what we can do with him. It is very special. You will never know
That's okay. So, if it's all safe, responsible and legal, declare it to the relevant monitoring bodies and stand by your actions. Let us all know what their response was.
What are you, some kind of kill joy? Bet you are a traffic warden or worse still a health and safety official. Monitoring bodies MY ARSE! Get a life you sad git
I've had a bird strike in a microlight and believe me it shreds them to pieces and you run the risk of busting your prop. Real environmentalists? Bullshit! This is gung ho crap. I'm disgusted!
i saw this bird at the show and i must say that it was the best desplay i have seen and due to the damp in the air and the speed of the bird i saw the slip streem off the wings like a plane the bird was doing a good rate of knots
That is fantastic. I am aware that the falcon can go faster than the quantum but are you not slightly worried about the bird being so close to the prop?
i thought this was some random video of balloon boy lol

Has he ever flown into the prop? hehe

thats cool but what happens when the Falcon "accidently" hits the prop? Just get another Falcon?look, leave the birds alone..
onebigkahuna69 1 year ago
The likelyhood of the bird striking an open propeller seems pretty high, something should be done to prevent that.
hippybackpacker 1 year ago
1:35 if it slips it goes right in the propeller :/

Would have made an interesting video to see the falcon going though those blades behind you there

have you thought about cutting the engine for the birds approach and departure. Would be a shame for him to get hurt as well as yourselves.

i saw a falcon being caught by the propeller in this film...
rodolphorgcf 2 years ago
you idiot if that falcon ever caught the air instead of dove into it, it would drop back and get clipped by the rotor. what a stupid chance to take.
DogKrapFace 2 years ago
oh Knickers to you. You are just jealous coz you cant do it. The bird is not that stupid
denicevanhintum 2 years ago
I was a bit worried the bird would hit the prop or be blown back into it ! Then you would all do a vertical swoop !

That bird is beautiful, bet those guys are buzzing every time it does it.

I think it's apparent that a good "Chuck" off the fist means it hopefully clears the prop LOL
A bit worried about the falcons landing on the fist in the micro light could shave it a bit close with the prop??
Finally, any problems when flying him and another micro light flys by? is there any risk of him following that one by accident?
Varmint38 2 years ago 3
The whole concept of a falcon is to be aerodynamic. And by that he does not get "sucked" that hard from the prop.
