We've had this explosive growth and improvement in our lives and gov't, whom was not an integral cog in that process, is going to maintain that trajectory? What track record do gov'ts have managing things?  The internet is the single freest interaction we have and you're going to let this serpent undermine it?

Says you? There are a number of people highly educated who can give you sophisticated arguments debunking this fallacy. Free market economists like F.A. Hayek will tell you it is precisely because they are so complex why they *can't* be managed. Their existence owes itself to the collobarative and creative nature of the market. Gov't comes along afterwards, tries to tell us this situation will not do, and we need regulation.

When you buy internet you are not buying the signals or frequency but the hardware that is required and matenence of that hardware to send and maintain the signal.

They can give you both for the same price. They want money like any other person or company. The only Practicle reason to charge more is because if everyone had the fastest internet then you would actualy be slowed down when everyone is using the bandwith. By charging more for the high speed less bandwith is used and people are not mad when ther internet is going at a snails pace, when they are paying for the "Extreme."
