Symbolism has to be the utmost hackneyed and pathetic method of attempting to convey a "point" or express an idea, that I have ever seen. There is nothing "deep", "poetic", or "meaningful" in it. It would be so much better to just take a direct approach, and not leave anyone wondering what the god damn meaning behind something is. If you're trying to confuse some people, then keep on doing it, but if you're trying to make a point, then please just be direct and forget this symbolic nonsense.
For the comment of Ben2China.. Isn't the monster supposed to be an annoying guy chasing and sticking after that girl or her boyfriend that she thinks simply too annoying?
I remember this song sang by one of my female friend in my university. She indeed had a lot of "annoying monsters" after her.. haha..
