@MontChevalier Do NOT group me with the yaoi fangirls that make it seem like "homophile shit" (I sort of agree with you on that otherwise). And you know, I said nothing disrespectful about Prussia. I WOULD go learn more, but sadly, my town's excuse for a bookstore doesn't have anything on Prussia.
For years on this land Balts, Slavs and Germans mixed between...and this is Prussia i mean Old Prussia originally. I love former East Prussia cause multiculturalism and cooperation...however for all these years faded away, cause intense polish influences later intense German, then again Polish etc.
My friend considering himself as Prussian and his ancestors are from Kaliningrad former Royal Prussia, Duchy of Prussia or the last name East Prussia. Always saying "Im Prussian my country doesn't exist, not a German, Russians,Polish or Lithuanian only Prussian". Every historical source, will give you that Old Prussians is a baltic-slavs mix-tribe, conquered by Poles and Germans (Teutonic Order XIII century). They spoke a language known as Old Prussian, which died out in early 18th century.
The state of Brandenburg-Prussia became commonly known as "Prussia", although most of its territory, in Brandenburg, Pomerania, and western Germany, lay outside of Prussia proper. The Prussian state grew in splendour during the reign of Frederick I, who sponsored the arts at the expense of the treasury
I love playing as Prussia in Victoria 2. Forming all the Germanic states together to form the German Empire is fun. Then attacking France and taking it's colonies is even more fun. Lol
Thanks for the great demo demonstrating Prussia's territorial endeavors. Now if only you could show this video to the original ruler Frederick he might have been a little upset but decided to live a more relaxed existence.
I was wondering how much land Prussia took over, and in what regions it would be in the present day map. This showed it all very well, and it was neat to see where all the land went to (who took it over).
It's a little sad that a country once so great fell so fast, and now it is little more than a memory. Thank you for making this!
But I really felt bad for Prussia when the name was crossed out and replaced with Kaliningrad and GDR. D: Like what little Prussia had left was taken away and named something else (that sounds like children huh?).
Even if I didn't know about Hetalia and watched this I'd still be moved and salute him. *salutes* May Prussia live on in our hearts (and a Japanese guy's manga).
@KNYN20 no germany did but it was started by hitler who was actually Austrian. the Allies tried to take down all of the germanic countries but switzerland but i think i see why, the Allies saw the germanic countries as threats, america-germany? england-Austria(maybe for Australia?) france-Prussia(i'm about to CRY FOR A COUNTRY! DX) Prussia was Originally a baltic state but was also a germanic country so they were inter linked into the war and was taken by poland and Russia mainly.
@59AJ59 During WWII Prussia didn't have any power at all just like all the other states. Germany was divided into provinces completely controlled by Nazis called "gaue". Prussia was the German state that was the hardest to take over by the Nazis back in the 30s because it was a social-democratic stronghold.
@alittletoocrazy101 My grandparents were from Prussia, so I knew about it before Hetalia. That doesn't make me any less of a fan, though. ^^
Preußen will always be His Royal Awesomeness. My children shall be told of the Mighty Prussia and how he was the most awesome of the nations before the Allies made him dissolve.
BY THE WAY, IN MY OPINION Austria was to blame for WW2, not Prussia. After all, Hitler was Austrian.
Mongolians successfully conquered and ruled China by adopting the culture and language of the Chinese. Interesting that Prussia successfully conquered and ruled the German States by adopting the culture and language of the German people. The capitals (Jing) of China rotated around the North (Bei), South (Nan), East (Dong), and West (Xi - pronounced She); hence Beijing, Nanjing, Dongjing (aka Kyoto, Japan), and Xijing (aka Xi-an). Interesting the capital of Prussia was Konigsburg (King mtn).

It's sad that this world power was thought to be such a threat, when Britain controlled a third of the world at the time. Even worse is that such a strong country just ceased to exist altogether within a single century. Bismark would definitely be rolling in his grave at the thought.
prussia is the proof that germans and polish working together have good results. maby you germans will think about that and STOP RAIDING US EVERY 100 YEARS GODDAMNIT!!
1. if "you Poles" would have been strong enough to defend yourself, you wouldn't suffer from those raids.
2. Germans raided about every country in Europe (my country of the Netherlands included), yet you Poles seem to be the only ones who keep on crying like a bunch of little girls
BTW: I only refer to Poles who keep on whining, all other Poles have my greatest respect
@DryNox well. imagine every time you had a war with france(theoretically), all's going well, than germans attack you. they conuqer you, splitting you with france, than making the dutch on one side fight the dutch on the other side. now imagine your nation beeing in this situation every 100 years or so. i feel i have the right to whine a little.
@iDeathpool Okay, well you can come back and whine at Germans when you've looked at it from every other country that has been invaded by Germany's perspective. Yes, Poles are fighters. It was made obvious by the Warsaw Uprising, the Battle of Wizna, and all of the other fights that Poles put up against their adversaries. But you don't see people from other nations [that had their vital regions] invaded by Prussia and Germany complaining about it here. Just saying.
@TheMightyPrussia Poles do not really HATE Germans that much. We allways admired Germany and the German people. When Prussia occupied western Poland and Silesia nobody really rebelled againts them because Germans to some level respected out customs and the use of our language, what's more they made infrastructure and made those parts of Poland rich. Unlike Rusians that anihilated everything that was catholic or Polish. what we dislike Germans for is their alliances with those mongol primitives.
@iDeathpool ...I would agree with you, and support a Polish/German alliance against Russian Mongols, but... Looking at Russian war history, that would be suicide. ^^;
@Ichigochan131 It's not a cartoon, it's an anime. And before you go off on that simple statement, there is a difference.
Secondly, while World History doesn't revolve around Hetalia, the opposite is true of APH. Everything in APH is historically accurate, but it is indeed a comedic abridged series.
It amuses me to no end that you literally just favourited a Hetalia video an hour ago, yet you're going on it as if you aren't a fan. ^^
Hetalia has officially altered my life. Never before would I laughing my ass off while watching a five minute video on the rise and fall of Prussia. foreveralone.jpg
@KeikoNK07 After WWII Germans (Prussians) were deported from Prussia (modern day Kaliningrad Oblast) and Russia assumed control of the area which in the middle ages originaly belonged to the Real (Old) Prussians.
whoa whoa whoa. as much as i think this is all true, one thing made me think otherwise. Prussia wasnt blamed for WWII..... Germany was. And I'm pretty sure that under Otto Von Biesmark, the German States were unified, Prussia included...... Thus, making it East Germany. Though, I could be wrong...
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't here because of Hetalia. I'd also be lying if I said I'd known anything about Prussia before Hetalia. I've always loved history, but Hetalia gave it a hilarious edge. Oh and Elmiewhatever, Hetalia's not just a fandom. It's history. It's a kickass anime. yes the fangirls can be very, very, heart wrenchingly awful. But some of us are in it for the history. Or just the laughs.
Thanks to this video, I now know that my family is more Prussian than I thought!!!!! XD Yes. Just, YES!! We are considered German... but looking at the map here and the date and seeing when my family left there, I see that we were a part of Prussia.
This is so weird, I have a friend that inserts "MY DICK" caps and all in anything that can be taken in a remotely sexual way. Where do you people get this from?
rise of nationalism: England/Scotland become the UK, Prussia/Bavaria/Westphalia/and so on become Germany, the fall and rise of Poland. This is a trait of Europe following the Spanish example from centuries early in 15th/16th as the individual kingdoms of Castille and Aragon form to create Spain. Underlining notion to take away from this is that Prussia ceased to be by the consolidation of the German Empire, not the fall of the Third Reich.
So I think it would be appropriate to correct your modern understanding of Prussia. Prussia was constituted into the German Confederate with the demise of the Holy Roman Empire which was ruled by the Austrian-Hungarian Empire by the time of the 18th, 19th century. Within two or so years the German Confederate becomes consolidated into the German Empire. Prussia no longer exists by the 1870's, not 1945. Your portrayal is entirely too ethnocentric because the 18th/19th centuries are all about the
@Ultimagu Actually, wasn't Prussia created as a result of the demise of the HRE during the 30 years' war in 1618-1648? My memory's fuzzy on that, all I remember was Westphalia and the Defenestration of Praugue.
...
Or was it a result of the religious wars culminating with Augsburg in 1555?
@ATSFAsbel98 The official demise of the HRE comes with the German Confederation mid-19th century of which Prussia is on the rise. As far as I'm aware, Prussia came about with the dismantling of the Teutonic Order, but I could be wrong on that note.
@ElemixZero No we are not. I hate how that image of us has come around. You saying we are disgusting is like saying all Canadians are lumberjacks who live in igloos and own beavers. It's just a silly stereotype, and you're truly an idiot if you believe in it.
@ElemixZero I don't understand how so. And it's not like I represent ALL Hetalia fans. Look, just fuck off, man. If you really hate the show so much you don't have to get all butthurt and dedicate your time to hating it.
@ElemixZero But I don't understand why you think we're all the same. It's like saying 'I hate Hetalia fans because they ruin history with their kawaii desu yaoi fantasies!!1!!!one!' You're just stereotyping us. We're not all the same, you know.
@MikuMikuDouga523 Exactly. I'm a hetalia fan, and I pretty much find the series a lighthearted play on world history. Besides, a lot of the crack pairings, I found, have historical roots--USxUK - Atlantic Treaty, for example.
Besides, stereotyping fandoms as whipped into a slobbering, fanatical fervor (I see this enough with varied interpetations of bronies, furries, and railfans) isn't exactly intellectual. So why is it bright history buffs do that all the time?
@ElemixZero What a cut-and-pasted paraspritic phrase. Come on, I watch Hetalia and haven't devolved into a slobbering being randomly pairing up countries, and I know many people who could say the same.
I just think that you've had a few bad experiences with the Hetalia fandom, or don't like the profuse amount of slash yaoi generated by a certain group of individuals. Think of those people as "individuals" and not a "fandom".
@LilSpiph I'm all right with that, and I personally don't see how yaoi fanfictions or slash pairings do any harm. I mean, we're not talking "My Immortal" kind of bad or "Cupcakes" kind of gory, we're talking about regular old anime romance stuff.
...
Then again, I'm a bit more tolerant than many anime aficianados, so I might have a dramatically different world view than others...
@ElemixZero We are not disgusting! I know about 99.9% of us are those stupid yaoi obsessed crazed fan-girls but you know the fans who actually WATCH these kinds of videos and other historical videos like this are the .1% who actually like hetalia for it's historical-ness and comedy NOT ALL of us are like that I actually love it for learning because my school does not teach us anything about European nations because my school is an american school and all we learn about is america and it's boring
It's interesting to see how such an essential country in Europe was completely wiped out. It possible that I never would have even found out about it if it weren't for Hetalia, and really, that's quite sad.
Its staggering to realize just how eastern Prussia and Germany was. Too bad about the tragedy of WW1. Prussia and Germany were doing so well until then.
well, the thing is there's this mirconation that bears the name of prussia. something along the lines of 'the new empire of prussia' so prussia really in a way isn't dead
I am not a Christian or Jewish bigot at all, yet this tragic story looks so much like what the Bible said of the rise and fall of the powerful, of the successive nations which occupy the scene for a while, dance their dance and disappear into oblivion… It is particularly true of states which were essentially military.
Wilhelm abdicated as German emperor but he did not relinquish his Kingship of Prussia, what legal basis did the weimar republic have in abolishing the regal heads of the members states? Its obvious in hindsight that the continuation of the monarchy would have made it impossible for Hitler to attain absolute power, he himself would have been legal bound to an oath of allegiance to the hypothetical kaiser/Konig, he also would not have had authority over the armed forces like he did either. .
I think it's a very, very good thing that I knew about Prussia long before "Hetalia".

Oh and Elmiewhatever, Hetalia's not just a fandom. It's history. It's a kickass anime. yes the fangirls can be very, very, heart wrenchingly awful. But some of us are in it for the history. Or just the laughs.

There is a rumor floating about that Prussia has become a Micro-nation. The New Prussian Empire. Do you know if there is any fact to this?

I heard that too! Not sure if it's true or not, though.

Thanks to this video, I now know that my family is more Prussian than I thought!!!!! XD Yes. Just, YES!! We are considered German... but looking at the map here and the date and seeing when my family left there, I see that we were a part of Prussia.
Awesome.

rise of nationalism: England/Scotland become the UK, Prussia/Bavaria/Westphalia/and so on become Germany, the fall and rise of Poland.
Ultimagu 2 months ago
So I think it would be appropriate to correct your modern understanding of Prussia. Prussia was constituted into the German Confederate with the demise of the Holy Roman Empire which was ruled by the Austrian-Hungarian Empire by the time of the 18th, 19th century. Within two or so years the German Confederate becomes consolidated into the German Empire. Prussia no longer exists by the 1870's, not 1945. Your portrayal is entirely too ethnocentric because the 18th/19th centuries are all about the
Ultimagu 2 months ago
@Ultimagu Actually, wasn't Prussia created as a result of the demise of the HRE during the 30 years' war in 1618-1648? My memory's fuzzy on that, all I remember was Westphalia and the Defenestration of Praugue.
...
Or was it a result of the religious wars culminating with Augsburg in 1555?
ATSFAsbel98 2 months ago
@ATSFAsbel98 The official demise of the HRE comes with the German Confederation mid-19th century of which Prussia is on the rise. As far as I'm aware, Prussia came about with the dismantling of the Teutonic Order, but I could be wrong on that note.

@ElemixZero ...Excuse me? Don't stereotype us. We're not all 'disgusting'.
MikuMikuDouga523 2 months ago
@MikuMikuDouga523 Yes you are.
ElemixZero 2 months ago
@ElemixZero No we are not. I hate how that image of us has come around. You saying we are disgusting is like saying all Canadians are lumberjacks who live in igloos and own beavers. It's just a silly stereotype, and you're truly an idiot if you believe in it.
MikuMikuDouga523 2 months ago
@MikuMikuDouga523 Well I find you disgusting.
ElemixZero 2 months ago
@ElemixZero I don't understand how so. And it's not like I represent ALL Hetalia fans. Look, just fuck off, man. If you really hate the show so much you don't have to get all butthurt and dedicate your time to hating it.
MikuMikuDouga523 2 months ago
@MikuMikuDouga523 Apparently I'm "butthurt and dedicate" for saying one thing about a group of people I generally don't like.
ElemixZero 2 months ago
@ElemixZero But I don't understand why you think we're all the same. It's like saying 'I hate Hetalia fans because they ruin history with their kawaii desu yaoi fantasies!!1!!!one!' You're just stereotyping us. We're not all the same, you know.
MikuMikuDouga523 2 months ago
@MikuMikuDouga523 Exactly. I'm a hetalia fan, and I pretty much find the series a lighthearted play on world history. Besides, a lot of the crack pairings, I found, have historical roots--USxUK - Atlantic Treaty, for example.
Besides, stereotyping fandoms as whipped into a slobbering, fanatical fervor (I see this enough with varied interpetations of bronies, furries, and railfans) isn't exactly intellectual. So why is it bright history buffs do that all the time?
ATSFAsbel98 2 months ago 2
@ATSFAsbel98 I completely agree with you. No-one should believe in stereotypes.

ElemixZero 2 months ago
@ElemixZero What a cut-and-pasted paraspritic phrase. Come on, I watch Hetalia and haven't devolved into a slobbering being randomly pairing up countries, and I know many people who could say the same.
I just think that you've had a few bad experiences with the Hetalia fandom, or don't like the profuse amount of slash yaoi generated by a certain group of individuals. Think of those people as "individuals" and not a "fandom".
ATSFAsbel98 2 months ago
@ATSFAsbel98
I hate to go against your point because it's very true, but about 95% of the fandom is yaoi based...
LilSpiph 1 month ago
@LilSpiph I'm all right with that, and I personally don't see how yaoi fanfictions or slash pairings do any harm. I mean, we're not talking "My Immortal" kind of bad or "Cupcakes" kind of gory, we're talking about regular old anime romance stuff.
...
Then again, I'm a bit more tolerant than many anime aficianados, so I might have a dramatically different world view than others...
ATSFAsbel98 1 month ago
@ElemixZero We are not disgusting! I know about 99.9% of us are those stupid yaoi obsessed crazed fan-girls but you know the fans who actually WATCH these kinds of videos and other historical videos like this are the .1% who actually like hetalia for it's historical-ness and comedy NOT ALL of us are like that I actually love it for learning because my school does not teach us anything about European nations because my school is an american school and all we learn about is america and it's boring

Its obvious in hindsight that the continuation of the monarchy would have made it impossible for Hitler to attain absolute power, he himself would have been legal bound to an oath of allegiance to the hypothetical kaiser/Konig, he also would not have had authority over the armed forces like he did either. .
