the great thing about Tommy Wonder is that he was never pretentious, never required huge fireballs or half-naked assistants to hide his work, he engaged his audiences with an intimate feeling without smoke and mirrors
Tommy Wonder is simply the archetype of The Magician. Well atleast in my humble opinion. He was just so elegant and cool, yet slightly odd and interesting.
The Orange, Lemon, Egg has it's roots WAY back.. Richiardi Jr. made it famous again in the 50's, 60's and up until his passing in the 80's. His father (a once touring ventriloquist) also did it. Robert Houdin made reference to an effect similar to it, and effects almost identical (the method)are mentioned in a few old books (I think it was Hermann?) from the 1890's.
They are all magicians... they are just not in Tommy Wonder's league. And I believe most of them would acknowledge that. (Teller would, not so certain about Penn!)
Yeah, I feel you. I mean, if you watch the videos of my performances you can tell that I have nothing similar to Tommy Wonder. It just isn't my style. But wow, you just got to admire the man. He is just so elegant and smooth with it. Just like magic should be.
For the type of person that he is, and protrays..... that is what a magician should be. Me on the other hand, am not a European gentleman. So I need to act more my age and more my generation. So I do the whole "hood" thing.
true....true...true.. But I might be wrong when I say that Tommy Wonder made the routine famous. I will need to look more into it. Not quite sure. Max Maven will know.
In a way you are correct that Tommy Wonder made the routine famous, however the play was and still a hit... Tommy Wonder made it famous as a seperate entity from the theatre. However the play is about a magician. Orange Egg Lemon Egg canary brings magic into the realm of theatre, Tommy wonders brings theatre into the realm of magic. He seems to have known how to do this with the majority of his acts. Many famous magicians source as him as one of their major inspirations.
I have no words. Just beautiful, and I am grateful to have been able to see him present this act live. His books are a must - they do set the bar very high for magical artistry.
man!!! when did he die?? i ordered a special gimmick coin from him and i mailed with himself and talked to him.. he also was on a magic congress where a good friend of mine met him and this was about two years ago.. noway!!! (well, the packet with the coin smelled "a little bit" like cigarette smoke.. im NOT kidding!! but i would have never thought, that he would die that fast!!!! oh, man. i'm shocked now, 'cause i loved/still love his art his performing style and his contribution to magic..
He was my inspiration, my idol, and my hero; I will never forget him. He was a great man, a brilliant thinker, and the best damn magician this world has ever seen. Tommy might have died, but his spirit, influence and legend will live on forever in the hearts of those that love him. I will miss him always.
Wonder was perfect as always, and he will be dearly missed, but that has to have been some of the absolute WORST editing I have ever seen, especially for a magic performance.
Astonishing, artistic, unbelivable, understandable. Tommy Wonder's close up and stage magic was all of these and more. His magic was PERFECT! Every magician in the world should feel very sad right now, as we have lost the greatest. His magic was beautiful. R.I.P
I felt really lost for his departure and is deeply saddened. It is really a sad thing that Mr Wonder would never be seen live anymore, but can only be seen in Dvds.
miss your elegant work and graceful yet witty charm... a true masteract...

Well, its debatable if he got it from this guy, the actual routine comes from a play called Orange, Lemon, Egg Canary.

Tommy Wonder died from lungcancer
He was smoking a whole lot.
I Only saw one palming in the video now matter how many times I looked.
He had to have some kind Z-table or trapdoors in the cups.

Z-table?? Hahahaha. Just manipulation. No trapdoors in the cups and balls trick.

Strange that he didn´t win the gold medal with this routine then.
