  • Wow... THE jazz guitarist covering THE jazz master...

  • His face expression at 0:04. That is what music does to you. LOVE WES!

  • unlike a lot of jazz guitarists, wes never sounded like he was playing from a sheet. he didn't read anyway. his improv was always fresh genius. the man is in the angel band.

  • I mean those scales or whatever he is playing in his licks/solos are sick. He's got like a ton of them.

  • Even the piano wants to be closer to him.

    Clever piano.

  • incredible is an understatement with Wes.

  • that's just pure Class!

  • ...heard this, fell in love with jazz.

  • I'm so privilaged to have grown up listening to this guitar legend. I'm even more privlaged to live in his hometown!

  • It's insane how he can do all that with just his thumb O.o

  • My biggest guitar inspiration, check out mmy vids, you might see it. might not. Hard to get perfection on the frets like this guy.

  • As great as Wes is, the real gift of this recording, to me, is getting to see the amazing Jimmy Lovelace on drums. Dying in 2004, just two years after his long time piano accompanist, Frank Hewitt, Jimmy graced the stage at Smalls on 10th street in Manhattan the entire time I was in high school. Anyone who sat in front of him in that small venue couldn't help but know they were in the presence of a true master on par with Kenny Clarke, Max Roach and the other Bop pioneers. Jimmy, We Loved You

  • One of only a few guitarist that changed the way everyone approached the instrument. Self taught, started at 19. Learned to read bebop on his own. UNBELIEVABLE!

  • @musicmandrew

He only read chords somewhat never single lines. Wes had an incredibile ear according to all the greats who worked with him. He'd say to learn a tune,

Play it for me" That's all it took!

  • This is what I call music

  • This music makes me feel good.

  • I believe he used a solid state Standel amp at times.

  • anyone recognise the amp... Gibson? all in the fingers of course, just wondering... ;)

  • @blueskiwi It's a Standel amp. Used by some others in the 1960's, Chet Atkins for example.

  • A true genius at work. The ideas just pour out. Such fluency. Perfect time. He was a complete player.

  • The phrasing starting at 0:55 and 1:35 is mind numbing.....this guy is in a league of his own. Thanks for the fantastic quality.

  • @androsynth Yeah. 1:35 kind of blew me away when i first heard it

  • @martinmedeski cross string octave jumps are hard...and he's just sitting there relaxing!!

  • Fantastic quality!

  • exelent quality!!! amazing solo
