In the 1990s I rescued a dog. When I arrived at the animal shelter, I was shown to a cage containing a desperate, matted dog. I couldn't tell what breed because of the matting, and my heart went out to this poor animal. As soon as I laid eyes on her, this song, Jet, ran through my mind and would not give up.
I named her Jet and took her home and she was my best friend for over 10 years. I still don't think of my partner without this song popping into my mind!
I think the playing on this clip is better than the original recording, which sounds a little dull. The horns really spice it up. At the risk of understatement, McCartney really was a very good performer.
On this date in 1974 {Feb. 9th} "Jet" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it would peak at No. 7 and spent a total of 14 weeks in the Top 100...
The record was the 5th in a string of 8 straight records by Mr. McCartney to make Billboard's Top 10; started with "Hi, Hi, Hi" {#10}, "My Love" {#1}, "Live & Let Die" {#2}, "Helen Wheels {#10}, then this record, "Band On The Run " {#1}, "Junior's Farm {#3}, and finally "Listen To What The Man Said" {#1}...
Paid $10 to see this performance at the Cow Palace in San Frnacisco. Was on the high side of concert tickets at the time. Got there at 8:00 a.m. for general admission. Bill Graham's people did a great jop with crowd control. Rumor was that the Beatles would reunitie where they left off in 1966 ten years eariler. Still my most favorite concert experience having seen The Who, Clapton,. Dylan, Eagles, Stones, Ramones etc.in the 70s
@28if Man. You had a good life in the 70's. Haha. My guitar teacher got to open for the Ramones back in the day. If only my the artists on my bucket list were still alive and kickin.
@SuperMeanmrmustard You're in for a treat if you do see him live - when I saw him play a couple of years ago he opened with Venus And Mars / Rockshow then Jet - just the start of 2 1/2 hours plus of musical heaven..!!
I agree with RayMcAwesome; Sure Sir Paul is the greatest artist ever, and the greatest entertainer ever, no doubt about it. Nobody has had so many hits (Beatles, Wings and solo!)!
@TheMonkeybutler20 if you play guitar.... or bass the frets are A2-A2-A4-A5 then for "jets!" part just E5.... to anyone who wanted to know how to play :D
Probably one of the most influential tunes by Sir Mac and I don't mean Old MacDonald had a farm, or Fleetwood Mac. McCartney!!!! Paul McCartney sweet balladeer of the once famous fab four of whom John Lennon could actually sing.
Nobody, nobody, does "Ya ya ya" better than Paul McCartney ! Btw, did anyone ever figure out what this song was actually about? Was it about women's rights, marriage, or being the child of a military father?
@hardlines4, well said, very well said! Today´s music is a load of crap, only a few exceptions don´t justify that level we reached today. Thank God we had giants like Beethoven, Mozart, Beatles, Kinks, Led Zeppelin etc.!!
I am 43 Yrs old born in 1969 and grew up with this, I bet all 27 people who didn't like this were born after 1980 and don't truthfully know who SIR Paul McCartney is and what he represents. This man is a musical genius, anyone who doesn't like Jet, Band on the run or Juniors farm is an idiot who was born too late and missed what music really meant ........rap IS NOT music
McCartney and Wings..........amongst the BEST EVER
after years of studio (albeit brilliant) work, this must have been an exhiliarating time for the SECOND best songwriter of all time... okay, it's a tie...
@524pmdnyc - Ya, ditto I don't what I was thinking. Jet is lovely and the Beatles left us a wonderful catalog of the grooviest songs. My fav. Abbey Road. Peace, BD
@TheBeatlesForEver60 - Why blame Yoko? She was an artist and musician in her own right and John was bored with where the Beatles were going. They were all bored with standing in front of thousands of screaming teens who didn't even hear the music anymore. It was time for change and also for them to share their independant musical genius with the world. Think of George's great solo career, John's awesome solo albums, Macs endless cup of albums and Ringo's too. They gave us so much more!
@TheBeatlesForEver60 Before Yoko Ono even came along with the Beatles, the group was already unhappy. They were already thinking about breaking up any way... Yoko Ono never broke up the Beatles, they were already planning on breaking up. Paul even said in an interveiw that it was NOT Yoko's fault that they broke up.
@TheBeatlesForEver60 John went to a night walk to town & saw a Art Gallery where he met Yoko. Yoko influenced John about being independent with her about growing up & leave the Beatles. Times were changing & pop music was going out & enter comes dancing clubs of the 1970's. Was it Yoko's fault? If it wasn't, then The beatles will probably be the laughing stock of the world if they didn't break up. Children never going to grow up, if you know what I mean.
@starlost1957 id have to say i disagree, they probably would have changed to make the 1970's disco style music. only reason i say this is because look at what they had already changed from in the 60's they went from the original suit and ties catchy songs to drugged out hippie music, im pretty sure they could have transitioned once again, just my opinion though...
The best tune off of BAND ON THE RUN; If Sir Paul McCartney wants to adequtely honor WINGS, he should ask Boeing to design a stage for him. That would really rock. Nice job, Paul!
The Beatles themselves were like other men, but the music and lyrics channeled through them contained magic and messages from beyond the mind. If you love The Beatles and their music, go to TruthContest(dot)com, open "The Present," and read through the section about The Beatles.
I just saw the actual lyrics and boy am I embarrassed! I've been singing "I'll mate her" instead of "Ah Mater" and "Suffer again" instead of "Suffragette". Hearing that the song was about his dog...I assumed that if he let her bear puppies, she would be happy and love him forever. Unfortunately, there was a mistake in gender with another dog in which he thought was female, but turned out to breed with his dog.
Some people have talent and some people are hardworkers. When you combine talent and hardwork this is what you get.Sir Paul McCartney what would we do without you?
