  • If an SD70M-2 did this for me while I railfan in Greensboro, it would be amazing. lol.

  • Man those engines are the BEST and have the BEST horns also! Not to mention the really cool NS crews!

  • i love the way the horns echo way before the train gets there.

  • For sure!

  • no no...gotta say it the right way....FA SHO! lol

i jus noticed the engineer gave you guys a horn show. Nice!

  • I just caught 2727 on NS 33M. It has a great k5lla!

  • I love the sound of these horns...TOTALLY fits the SD70M-2.

  • Tell me about it! Absolutely love'em!

  • Send me the video if you got it...I want to see it!

  • It's my most recent vid on my channel (NS 33m)

  • The vid is still uploading. It will be on in a few.

  • I know the spot you were shooting from...right there around that space behind the Dairy Queen, across the road from the old Barnes Hardware building...right?

Nice catch on the SD, btw...good lookin' engine, if you ask me.

  • Yep you know it! Dairy Queen is gone, now a car lot, but Barnes Hardware is still there..for now...What do you think of the horn on that SD70M-2...pretty mean sounding K5LLA huh???

    I like it!

  • The horn sounds great, makes a brawny looking locomotive sound even brawnier.I liked old Leslie S5-Ts on Seaboard Air Line and SCL locomotives too..they sounded like a sick elk. A tuned Nathan P5 is pretty, but a horn's job is to get people out of the way, really..and when they're outta tune, they sure sound badddd!

It must have been to do banking business at that little bank that was there in downtown Austell at one time. I'd imagine it was often hard to hear in there for all the horns.

  • That horn makes me think of an angry elephant or something! lol. Yea I miss the old Seaboard Coast Line/Family Lines/L&N stuff...I grew up in Powder Springs just behind the line there...Then it became Seaboard System, then CSX closed the line, now it's the 'Silver Comet Trail'...

  • (sigh) Last stuff I saw running over that line was old Chessie GP 30s back in 1988. I think part of the problem CSX had with that line was the number of tunnels and the curves. And really, it doesn't fit into their overall running scheme like the old ACL and A&WP lines have.

btw, the reason I'm 'westpoint64' is that I model the West Point Route in more or less the year "1964"...

It's funny to think about, but nearly all the predecessors of CSX liked braying horns!

  • That's really cool! What scale? I have a lot of old HO trains, but no layout to run them on as of yet...

  • That actually looked just like a SD70ACe. But different horn and everything. 5*'s!

  • They are the same engine, just the one's that NS ordered specially for them are classified by EMD as SD70M-2's instead of ACe...CSX has the ACe's down here...

  • I can flash in my mind to standing in that same area back in 1988 and seeing a tux-painted GP 38-2 lead a cut of cars west....I remember the Nathan horn and everything.

  • Awesome!

  • Oh the ACe's have AC traction motors and the M-2's are DC traction motors...that's the main difference in them.

  • Really great crew on board!

  • Yea man, they were really cool on this train!

  • Awesome horn action Gene 5***** but you know it deserves more than that!

  • Aww! Thanks Ken! That means a lot to me! Always appreciated!

  • What's the difference between an SD70M-2 and an SD70Ace?

  • Just the name. Everything else is the same for the most part. SD70M-2's were made especially for NS.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Thanks Kyle!

  • nice power gene!! good one!

  • Yea buddy!

  • lol.

  • dam you got nice crews.

  • The NS crews are really cool here!

  • killler =D

  • They always sound so awesome!

  • Nice K5LLA!

  • Yep was awesome Mr.SD70M-2!

  • Yes sir Mr.SD70M-2!

  • nice video Gene he layed on the horn for ya.

  • Yep was awesome!

  • That is one awesome, awesome horn!! Liked the extra 'hornage' he gave you, too!! I agree with CoastStarlight, that opening shot with the sun reflecting off the rails is super!! Great video!

  • Thanks! Like I said, this is BY FAR my favorite video from yesterday!

  • man gotta love those k5llas!

  • Yes sir! Me too!

  • Very super hard core!!!! Also the sun light off of the rails in the begenning adds a nice toutch to the vid. This train had massive power on the front. 5 stars!

  • I call that one 'The Beast' or 'Big Dog'! I love those SD70M-2's! Thanks James!

  • Those SD70M-2's are hard core! Wish I could see an NS SD70M-2 in person leading a train.

  • Well the SD70ACe's are the same engine, CSX uses those instead of the M-2's...not really quite sure what the diff in them is, if any...they're monsters and awesome!

  • I see UP SD70ACE's all the time by me. So freaking many UP SD70ACE's go across Donner Pass all the time.

  • There is no mistakening a K5LLA! :-)

EMD is showing those "Trash-9's" who is boss!

  • Hell yea! This is by FAR my favorite video from yesterday!
