Michigan is the perfect place for manufacturing. It has Iron Ore in the North, large workforce in the South, massive Farmlands in the center, and huge costal recreation areas and beautiful northern wooded lands. It also sits near the middle of the country and can export enmasse via rail. It has the largest traffic airport in the country just 300+ miles away. Waterways that surround the state. It's a dream come true for anyone who plays this right and can be a huge benefit for the whole state.

Goodness, but what DO you do to Detroit? I drive about the Michigan Ave and Lafayette areas (near the MLK intersection) from time to time and weep for Detroit. But if I go on my own and try to rebuild or even clean up some of the vacant yards of trash, you run the risk of being mugged or shot. Even the homicide crime lab has closed and evidence goes to Toledo. Maybe the best idea is to move in and defend the place with your life (Gran Turino style?)

I actually was born and raised in Detroit.. Still here. And the sad thing is that the people who could afford to move out of the city moved out and abandoned the city for the next new suburb, and the only people that were left were mostly ppl that are far below the middle class who rely on Gov't Assistance. And with the real estate market most of the ppl here felt it was easier to burn their houses down to collect the insurance money and move to the burbs than to pay and remain here.

If we reduce it in size and make park lands out of the rest, we can inflate the real estate values and spend our resources on a smaller area.

Good Video! For the most part I agree (albeit even today there's something mystical/likeable about Detroit).
I doubt there can ever be any true change from within government (whether thats in the US or elsewhere), because regardless who gets elected, they're ALWAYS controlled by those who controll the monetary system (unelected and untouchable). If you don't obey the money masters (like Kennedy did - few non-FED-notes are still circulating) you get shot.

Its the recapture of individual sovereignty! How can it be done? Right! Together we stand, divided we fall. unions are a great example of that. In the 60's, the workers could not even afford the cars they built. After getting a raise, companies demanded twice as much work. As far as union leaders benefits, they are elected because of their fairness, then companies bribe them .Such as telling new hires, that if they don't vote for the contract ( benefits were cut) then the jobs are going to Mexico. Happened! So all in all people actually earn those benefits.

Goodness, but what DO you do to Detroit? I drive about the Michigan Ave and Lafayette areas (near the MLK intersection) from time to time and weep for Detroit. But if I go on my own and try to rebuild or even clean up some of the vacant yards of trash, you run the risk of being mugged or shot. Even the homicide crime lab has closed and evidence goes to Toledo. Maybe the best idea is to move in and defend the place with your life (Gran Turino style?)

Why aren't poeple showing how goreous downtown is (They've been renovating it for 10 years) Why aren't people showing all the gorgeous victorian style homes in indian river or in brush park. The residents of detroit need to get some ambition and stop feeling "opressed" they may not be able to help the situation in detroit but they can help their own situation., take some responsibility and how about some pride in yourself and your city. it is so sad to see this once utopia turned into what it has, i remember stories my grandparents and parents would tell me about the city , they would describe how the city had so much and you could actually walk down the street and not get mugged.

TAXES Do you understand that the top 5% of income earners pay 50% of the taxes in the US. Cutting taxes on rich people who are earning money creates investment and jobs. Raising taxes on those people has the inverse effect.
Cutting taxes on poor people helps no one since they don't pay taxes anyway

And the sad thing is that the people who could afford to move out of the city moved out and abandoned the city for the next new suburb, and the only people that were left were mostly ppl that are far below the middle class who rely on Gov't Assistance. And with the real estate market most of the ppl here felt it was easier to burn their houses down to collect the insurance money and move to the burbs than to pay and remain here.

@lightning221 I think that we should do controlled demolition of most of that city and return it to the wildlife. Even if we fix the economy, that city is beyond repair. If we reduce it in size and make park lands out of the rest, we can inflate the real estate values and spend our resources on a smaller area.

So, ask yourself, how can a city in this condition EVER hope to repay the billions of dollars it's in debt? How about 100 cities in the same condition? It's INEVITABLE now, and there's nothing "we" can do about it. Just look in your history books under Egypt, Greece, Rome...
