dude when u pull up the e-brake you need to keep holding the bottom on the e-brake that just to start the drift whe you are side the corner you need to put the e-brake down
What you're trying to say has already been covered in previous comments/discussions.
It really comes down to utilizing the engagement button. Pull up the ebrake with the button in, release the button to initiate the slide, then put the button back in and the e-brake back down as your footwork and steering take over from there.
wheres the obligatory "If you try to drift in a mid-engined car, it will most likely kill you?" As an Mr2 owner I would just like to sate that if drifting is your thing, get a 240sx...
i never knew what jaw dropping was untill i saw it. and i had an honest moment of double U tee ef ! as well i haven't had those since i said my first word
aah.. question it ocurs me that the car showed at the end of th video its a ... rally car... it looks like mitsubishi.. its a 4fwd ...soo how can he drift?? anyone???
(you can see both tires trying to speed as he drifts, conclusion, its a 4x4 car)
Drifiting is not limited to rear wheel drive cars. The only cars that cant drift are front wheel drive cars. four wheel drive cars merely require different methods.
ya but i have seen a guy in a chevy optra drifting that a front wheel drive all he has done is pull the E-break and turn then step on the gas but that is not drifting it is more like a J turn
i can own this you in drifting. SYKE. god i loved the tutorial. i'm 13, but when i grow older, i'll continue to watch this video. xD thx andrew! >:D badass.
when you downshift, shouldnt you shift into neutral, let out clutch, rev up (matching next gears rpm zone), downshift, and then let clutch out? or is this a completly diff. technique? (im a noob sorry)
how i do it in my car is i aproach the turn while keeping on the throttle. at this speed some understeer might occur.
while keeping the right foot on the gas, use the left foot to press in the clutch while reving the engine up higher then immediately dump the cluth while engine is in load, causing the car to loose traction.
your way of clutch kick would be more effective if the downshift didnt have some rev
i do it all the time ,it can be done with the proper method but dumping the cluch only messes up a fwd line of attack .99.9% of drifters cant drift a fwd car. due to rwd habbits ..
can't ! I have a prob with that statment ..for one thing you are wrong about "powersliding" powerslide is a term you can only use for a RWD car (( POWER ))slide. if you power slide a FWD car the car goes straight!!! mechanically not occur. is a error also ,mechanically is the best way, not drag with e brake . ballance the car to be set up for oversteer...that is if you think the susp and braking systems are mechanical.
Listen I know you're a fwd fanboy, and I know if you go great lengths you can make a fwd car go sideways sort of... but it's not drifting. You don't control it the same way, it's not the same. FWD "drifting" is just dragging your ass around. It's nothing like the real thing.
im not talking about extra points for entry angle and how long the drift is and with how much smoke. im talking about the kind of drifting tht SOMETIMES THE SPEED IS SO INSANE THAT ALL 4 TIRES ARE FIGHTING FOR GRIP ((FOUR WHEEL DRIFT))SPEED NOT LOOKS. the kind where a little tap of the brakes can save the car frome flying off the road ...
one thing dude your wrong you can forsay drift a fwd car yeah you dont have the rear wheels steering you but you can drift a fwd car i do all the time in my accord so what if it doesnt look right its still drifting all drifting is different look at rally thats drifting is it not?
can you drift with an auto ? because i have a 2007 honda civic and i really wanna know how to drift and i'm afraid of you know flippin the car over X_X so can anyone answer please ?"
I'm pretty much with what acentrella said on this one.
any FWD cars cant drift..
but you can do some hard ass powerslides.
however!
there's this guy who has been "drifting" FF civics since he was old enough to drive..
Yes sir! Those are some good tips! I have a 240sx with a sr20det and a welded dif. so its pretty easy for me to drift, that welded dif really helps! Makes both tires spin at the same time!
LOL i learned how to drift in a 1995 chevy pickup LOL now on to the miata... lol goes sideways SOO easy.. good luck civic dude -_-;;; Nice Video by the way.. really good for the beginners... lol Clutch kick and ebrake FTW!!!
can you drift with an auto ? because i have a 2007 honda civic and i really wanna know how to drift and i'm afraid of you know flippin the car over X_X so can anyone answer please ?
You can do a "breaking drift" where you use only breaking to transfer weight to the front of the car and then turning hard. But it's an advanced tech and prolly requires higher speeds (never done it myself). If you drive in rain, snow or gravel you can do "dynamic drifting" where you just drive really fast and turn hard.
I just did my first real drift today after watching this video, it was more of an accident than trying. but this video did really help a lot, since when my car started to slip in the back i pulled the ebrake holding the button and letting it go and putting it back down and started to "tow shift" and revving at the same time. it resulted to a heart pounding turn on an exit from a freeway. id say it was a good 40 feet when my car was moving side ways. fun and scary at the same time.
Tapping the accelerator with the clutch in brings the RPMs up a bit, to enable a smooth downshift as you release the clutch. This is called 'rev-matching'.
guys is you are trying this please press the button in on the hand brake and hold the button so you can drop it unlike this guy as he's wrecking the rachet mechanism!
nothing special just make sure its RWD, manual, decent tires (nothing special) high rpm and a lot of practice always use the beginners style. (small and nimble cars are the best but with a bit of grunt)

either you gotta countersteer once you start to break traction and slide or lay off the throttle. you gotta massage the throttle not try to see how far you can put it through the firewall
Perhaps a video on what you're looking for in a car before you go out and go drifting would be a wise Idea..
I'd hate to see some one see this and go all gung-ho in their moms Honda resulting a huge fee, and I'm curios to see what it really takes. (As I've never really looked into it)
for the bigginers if ur scared just run ur car like 30 to 40 mph and drift it and use ur e-brake until u get used to it... thats how i felt the first time i drifted my car... but before that i did an upgrades to my car's suspensions and everything that would help my cars balance just to be sure i wouldnt flip the car..
I looked around for empty parking lots in the suburbs. get the slide started by lifting up your ebrake (not all the way though, could be tough to get back down quickly) with the steering wheel hard to one side. Wet pavement is easier to lose traction on, but recovery could be trickier.
what about dirt? I can get to a parking lot, I just don't know if it will be wet or dry when I get there. If I can't to get a parking lot where are some other places to practice? Also, I've heard that a nissan 240sx is the best car to learn in, is this true?
Dirt can work, but it's especially mean on your tires. You'll also be kicking up a ton of rocks. The 240sx is a great starter. It has a long wheelbase, is relatively light, and has a comfortable amount of power for beginners. 240s are also pretty common, so denting one up isn't incredibly painful. If you can't find a safe open lot, perhaps apply for (and this is much more recommended) a professional setting. Bondurant offers a drifting course, for example.
I would if I could, its just the closest track to where I live is over an hour away. I know that dirt has hazzards, its just I have a relatively long area of dirt road that is in the shape of a rounded off rectangle right by my house.

is your talon fwd? If so, don't worry about drifting. As for burnouts, I can't tell you much because I don't know how close your car is to stock.
Generally, you want to be in boost when the clutch is dropped, so there's a lot of immediate power to the wheels.

FWD cars can't be "drifted" since they have zero hp to the rear wheels.
However, you CAN "powerslide" a fwd car, or otherwise drag the car's ass around the turns. But actual textbook drifting can mechanically not occur.

Two reasons why you can't drift your civic:
It's automatic.
It's front wheel drive.
At most, you could crank the wheel and pull the ebrake to perform a "powerslide" but you can't drift without power to the rear wheels.
acentrella3 4 years ago
damn that sucks so i can only powerslide then :/

Using E brake, you have to pull down at the moment you starts to slide,if you let it pull up,you could break something in your car very easy.
And you didn`t say anything about steering wheel when you have to recuperate the nose from the end of car sliding
