I prefer the 92-99 style. The 5.3 in 00+ does make more power, and if you stand on it, its apparent. I prefer the 5.7's power delivery. It makes more torque sooner. Feels a lot less stressed towing. I also prefer the window size/position of the 99. The window feels like its 2x the size. The interior quality is vastly inferior on the 00+ ones. Hands down. The 00+ ones turn much better and ride better...but that's about all I prefer about them.
Ive had a 99 yukon a 02 z71 suburban and currently drive a lifted 01 suburban. I had new style gmc rims w bigger tires on the yukon and it looked great. But the newer suburbans/tahoes drive so much nicer! You can really feel the frame and suspension upgrades while the older ones drive like big topheavy lugs. so I prefer the 00-06 models. Dont care much for the brand new ones except for the ecsalade of course
the suburban from the 1990s had the chevy 5.7 Liter V8, while the newer one will have a 5.3 Liter. So in other words, the engine size actually decreased with the newer ones, mainly for economy.
I can only remember seeing 3 LTZ models with the 2002 body style. All of the other ones were LT's or the base LS model. WIth the newer body styles I see LTZ's all over my neighborhood.
on the 02 check the air box lid for the motorsize its on a sticker and on the older one look for it it around in the engine bay i dont know were its at on older chevys
i aslo see how they did away with the 2 piece tailgate nd made a complete lift tailgate and you don't see it in the 2002 model but in the 2003 to 2005 they put On-Star controls on the rear view mirror insted of the dash nd they updated the stearing wheel in 2003 to 2005 models nd put the controls on the steering wheels which i may say i love the layouts of the 2000 to 2005 dash board layouts nd i love the 2003 nd 2005 steering wheel design.
actually the older model suburban (1999) has a bigger engine then the 2002, the older model has a 5.7 liter (350 ci) engine and the newer model has a 5.3 liter (327 ci) engine. but dispite the 5.3 being smaller, it has more wheel rotation force (torque) than the 5.7 engine.
@Etimthetool LT is top of the line, SLT is not found on chevy, just on GMC which was top of the line on GMCs until the denali came out which i don't like because they don't come in 4WD, but i know the denali is meant to be luxiorous, not about offroading, and also LS is bottom of the line, bass model, and SLE, which you are missing is bass model for GMC. They don't really stand for anything in initals if thats what you think, just shows how equipped thay are.
i have a 91' gmc suburban, i think it is awesome!! just got it for my 15th birthday. neeeds some work. mis fires in 2 cylinders and the interior lights dont work. needs paint job, etc. nice suburbans.
Both awesome trucks, the 02 has the 5.3 which has about 30 more horse than the 5.7. The 5.7 has 10 ft-lbs of torque more to be exact. The 1999 is heavier, more metal which means stronger, safer, and more prone to rust. The 02 has a lot more plastic, which cant rust. I like the last minute touches to the video!
@chevys1500 the 5.3 (327 ci) actually has more torque than the 5.7 (350 ci) despite it being smaller, i've been around cars and trucks all my life, i know.
I like the 2000 surburban reason being is the level of options. Fog lights, power moonroof, and I also like the design of the front seats. I like chevy trucks because you could run into the ground and they will keep going.
Great Video!! i must say that they both have there ups and downd but the more "stylish" 2000 series has a nicer interior and a better frame, the engine isnt as bullet proof but the smaller 5.3l (326) does have more power tourqe and balls. the 350 (5.7) is a good old 50 year old enginetho!! i like the 3/4 ton suburbans much more tho for looks. you should do a driving video too, Thanks :)
Thanks a lot man, I don't think I ever did a driving vid on this but I know I did on the 99, I'll be doing one eventually once we get another one in :D
I've had both of these, well a '96 and an '03. The '03 is the top of the line LT Autoride with all options. Both cars were great, but the '03 killed the '96 in luxury. Very surprising on the amount of luxury it has. The surround sound system is amazing. Bose. The computers tells you everything too. It is very quite, comfortable, and reliable. The only thing is, the little parts on the car start to fall apart and stop working after about 7 years. Like the autoride on mine broke Monday.
Oh yeah they are very luxurious! The bose systems are awesome, this 02 didn't have bose, or barely any bass at all haha. Guess it's just have to really pamper them, keep them maintained, it just seems that gm is getting cheap and it's saddening to see :/
Yeah, its been one of the best cars we have ever owned. The '96 was a complete tank though! It made a great engine sound too. The only reason we sold it when we got the new one in '03 was because we didn't have room for it. lol The '96 was much better built, in my opinion. Felt like less plastic. The new one looks a lot better and has a lot more options. All in all both are great cars, and will run a very long time.
seems like the new (02) suburbans engine sounded better but sound systems subwoofer wasent dorking i think it had one but there wasent any bass when the 99 had some responce but i didnt see a woofer
I had an '01 suburban 6.0. Very nice but those years GM had a problem with "piston slap" . Engine ticked badly. But I think the '00 - '02 had the most comfortable seats. Then in '03 they eliminated the better carpet, interior door and footwell lights and even the glove box light. What gives.
idk which suburban i like better but i like them both more than the new ones. i deffinetly like the sound of the 5.7 engine more than the 5.3 thats in the 02 but the are both great dependable trucks
I have a 98 but mine doesn't have the airbag and is for 9 passenger. I honestly prefer the 99 rather than the 02. I don't like much the rounded of the 02. I also like for the 99 the rear doors. Mine opens the glass up and the other part down. Great video.
The 2002 does have looks going for it. But all the curves on the 2002 trap dirt and may make cleaning harder. The newer ones seem cheaper because they went with a lot of plastic and pleather. Seems like the newer ones have a litter gauge metal shell and doors and the older models are heavier steel. I'M going to guess that the newer models are just a little better on MPG then the older.
The interior looks cheap, specialy in the newer one, plastic.. even though the SUV was very expensive to buy new. But the commands are practical and looks good. And i don't like to color of the seats, they look cheap too. But i wouldn't mind have one if it wouldn't for the fuel price.
I know comptley what your talking about with the 00-06 suburban interiors. We have a 2004 GMC Yukon XL with only 60,000 miles on it an the driver and passenger seats are already starting to fade and rip. I think that GM made a huge improvement on the interiors in the new suburbans.
Both chimes were annoying as hell. The 99 is high pitched and continuous and the 02 sounds like the annoying chime out of an F-150. I have nothing against Ford but NOTHING FORD BELONGS IN A CHEVY!!!
The radios are the same. The newer engine is smaller, but with more horsepower. However, the newer engine is a car engine, so its horsepower and torque are at a higher rpm. Not a good truck engine, especially if you plan to tow.
the leather is cheap and tacky in any of them, but the newer style leather is even worse than vinyl. Cloth is the choice for style and comfort.
The brakes are much better in the new one. The 88-98 style Chevy trucks always had poor brakes in the 1/2 ton.
I agree the 1999 has a better look and better sound system plus its more aggressive which is what i like. the 2002 is more for the newer person in life that wants a truck for style instead of work.
hey good video but i noticed something odd the 2002 looks like a 2wd but i saw the switches for a 4wd?i always thought it was 2 wd cuz of the rims which are common on the 2wd models hmm odd thing about the newer ones
I was in a head-on collision with a 99' suburban and they're actually not that safe considering their size. I walked away from it (I was in an 01' taurus) and the suburban was almost up to the windshield. I lost a lot of respect for these suburbans after that :(
