I remember that day, I too was watching Rachel Maddow. As a Californian, now I envy your comprehensive public transportation, and your civil rights...
It IS great news. NOW... if most gays will learn it's not a piece of paper which binds tow souls together, but faithful and honest commitment, & not the common, misconstrued connotation of the words, but true honesty and fidelity. Let's see a deduction is number of "open" relationships in gays...
Well spoken, and I am so happy for my LBGT friends in NY. Now let's keep wokrin and demand that every state support and back the right for marriage rights for all .
Side note, please please PLEASE do more Eirik videos. My friends and I LOVE them! We have our own inside jokes because of them. Like I will randomly text someone and say 'old people are made of poop' or 'so follow me on Twitter, k?' We need more! You are so funny and talented and Eirik brightens my day!
@demetriusravenclaw If a straight couple get married somewhere that isn't a church then they have the option of having a civil marriage or a civil partnership. So it is actually legally a marriage if they choose, and no religious element need be involved. Gay couples on the other hand only have the option of a civil partnership. I know legal rights are identical but I still think the different name suggests gay people are in some way not equal.
my head is still spinning from the reality that NOW I can actually start imagining a future where I marry a man and our union will be protected by the law. IT'S CRAZY!! IT'S LIKE A DREAM. It gives me a great deal of HOPE! YAY NY!!!
@demetriusravenclaw But gay people can't get married in the UK... if anything New York is ahead. I know we can get a civil partnership in the UK, but that is reminiscent of 'separate but equal', which has scary undertones.
omg i say the same thing!! some day our younger generation is gonna be like "gay ppl didnt have rights in the olden days?" and we're gonna have to shamefully admit that. Its kinda like how when we ask our parents about black ppl being treated like dogs...like what??? BUT they're ppl!!!!
KUDOS to NY! Too bad one of the progressive state CA is still living in the dark ages with the help of the Catholics and the Mormons. Hopefully people will eventually see the light and understand the meaning of separation of State and religion.
I'm so happy about this :) sadly it took this long, but I'm hoping the rest of the country does follow suite(besides the ones that are smart enough to already have done so)
Do you have a black eye? No, really, not the one on our right (although that one looks kinda black too) but the one our our left (your right)? Maybe the lighting is bad, but damn, Jeffrey, either you got punched or you haven't had enough sleep...
not being catty 'cause I love ya!!!!!!!!!! Now go get some sleep, or some under eye concealer, or tell us who hit you and why, one of the three! ;-) And p.s. Yay New York! I feel like it's destiny it happened on almost the same night as Stonewall =-)
im from Vancouver and lots of LGBTTAQ peoples take for granted (here in Canada) how amazing it is to have the fundamental right to get married - regardless of who you are. Congrats New York - join the modern world
