  • His quick feet are underrated

  • wasent t this montanas last game

  • The Dolphins should wear their darker jerseys home more often.Or at least when they play 4:00 pm games or later in the season. This is a rare treat to see them wearing them at home. They used to wear the teal pants at home with the white jerseys, and they even stopped that thanks to Wannstadt.

  • Did Marino buy Montana a can of Diet Pepsi after this game?

  • Marino could have had a super bowl if Miami would have had Jerome Bettis and Randy Moss but Miami 's defense was bad thoguyh so its fair to say it.

  • @aquatodabone If the Jets drafted him he would have one or two.

  • I agree! Montana is so overated!!! That 49er team was stacked, Young was alot better than Joe and more versitle. Marino,Elway and Young all had more talent than Montana ever dreamed of!!! If the Dolphins ever gave Marino a defense, he would have Super Bowl rings all over his fingers!!!

  • @redhead5150...you sound exactly like me b/c it's the truth. Marino and Elway were and still are the best passers of all time. Teams knew Marino was throwing the ball and they still couldn't stop him. I hate Shula for never giving him a Defense or RB.

  • @jgp1476 If the Jets had taken Marino over O'Brien they would have won a Super Bowl.Especially when Parcells came in.I also don't think they would have choked with Marino in 1986-87 either.

  • @redhead5150

They did, on his rookie year and near the end of his career.

At least the Broncos did assemble some talents for Elway in time...

  • If I were going to compare any MODERN-DAY QB to Marino, it would honestly be Drew Brees. Not that I'm saying the Mannings, and Bradys of the world are inferior Quarterbacks, but just factoring in that natural passing ability, Brees puts up the same kind of numbers with a receiving core that would be pretty much average on any other team EXCEPT the Saints.

  • As much as I enjoy Drew Brees and watching him light up the scoreboard every Sunday, Im glad he didn't break Dan's season passing yardage record.

That egotistical crybaby Favre shouldn't have Dan's records... sad excuse of a quarterback.

  • @tubeyouguy1984

The Only reason Favre has that record is because he played more games, Marino did it in less games, the only record that was legitimately broken was the TD record, but I guarantee you Marino would have easily broken that in his prime as well, remember when he broke it the record was 36 his record was just barely broken, and he is in the top 3 to 5 in every statistical record that exists

  • I grew up a fan of Marino's, and always felt he was shorthanded later in his career. I mean look at who he had or didn't have on offense. If he had receivers similar to the mark brother's, his numbers would have been much higher.

Also tearing his achilies tendon in 1993 didn't help.

Mmmhhmm, 48 stood for what, 20 some years? that says a lot right there. Then threw 44 in 1985? I am pleased Favre's last pass was guess what, another INT that cost him another trip to a superbowl. Suck it bret.

  • people say Montania was better then Marino but did you know in this game Joe Montania was on KC and Dan won.Dan also beat him earlier in the year..When Joe was on a shitty team he couldnt do shit but Marino had a shitty team his whole careere and did great things

  • @jhody12345 I'm as big a Marino fan as anybody, but I wouldn't say he was always on shitty teams. In particular, the Dolphins from 83-86 were very strong, and this is when Dan had the most success.

  • I think Marino is the best pure passer of all time. By that I mean that if you just stuck him on a football field and drew plays up in the dirt, Marino could make every single throw and look fantastic. The only problem is that Marino was a little arogant. Anyone who knows the NFL knows that Dan Marino wanted to throw the ball every play. It seems like he wanted to show that he could win his own way, without running the ball. I don't think he would have fit in with the Niners of the 80's.

  • Marino may be the best pure passer in NFL history but if Peyton keeps playing the way he has been, he'll retire the greatest QB of all time. Oh, the Montana thing, yeh he won Superbowls cz he played with a great team that had all the tools to win the rings. Marino did not yet he retired with most yards & tds in a season and of all time. He threw over 20,000 more yards and 150 more tds than Joe and he had more 4th quarter comebacks. Marino was better than Joe, but Joe played on a better team.

  • I personally dont think Peyton is better than Marino, however he is very very good, he keeps absorbing the game, and history can help a guy like Peyton, if Marino had a blueprint he could learn how to mould the team better, I think Peyton also saw the flaws of other great QB's and tweaked it to his advantage to help his game. ( I rarely see Peyton make the same mistake twice)

  • Montana benefit from the 49ers management and coaching staff. They put a great team around him.

it's no coincidence that when Montana left, suddenly backup QB Steve Young leads the niners to another superbowl ring.

Marino was the better QB. The Dolphins had no business winning so many games. He dragged them to the Super Bowl in 83 and to the playoffs every year after that.

  • backup Steve Young would have been the 2nd best or best passer in the league if Montana hadn't been in font of him. He's not just a "backup"

  • With the same reason,I am sure Marty Schottenheimer is a greater HC than Jon Gruden!

  • I am sure ,with no doubt, that Marino is one of the greatest QB ever, even though he has no rings.

I don't think it matters whether or not great QBs have ever got rings.

For example, which is a great QB,such as Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson or Dan Marino or Jim Kelly??

  • You are correct, and that is a great point.

  • greatest QB of all time.

  • Joe elevated himself and his team in the playoffs, especially in the Super Bowl. That other guy, well.....

  • Put teams that had no business being in the playoffs. Almost every year.

  • If the amount of rings a QB had determined his ultimate status of "best QB ever", then Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman and people like that would all be better than Marino... right? Though Montana is up there in status for sure , his teams as a whole were better than Marino's in the 80's without a doubt. Dan Marino is the greatest overall passer ever, like it or not.

  • Depends on what your criteria are. If you mean in terms of pure stats then I suppose so. If I had to choose between which quarterback I wanted with my back against the wall, and 60 seconds left to drive 99 yards for a touchdown, I'll take Montana over Marino anytime. Stats are great and all but what a quarterback does in the clutch is really what counts to me and Marino simply isn't in the same class with Montana or Elway when it comes to that. Hence the reason he had no rings.

  • That's ridiculous. Marino has tons of 4th quarter comebacks, more than Montana and almost as many as Elway. Superbowls are won by teams. Marino's teams were never as good as Elway's or Montana's. He did what he could with what he had.

  • Um no. No he doesn't. Only a Miami homer would even think about saying something like that.

  • You can look up the numbers yourself. Depending on the criteria, Marino is either 1st or 2nd in 4th quarter comebacks.

  • You're totally right these other guys dont know what they're talking about. There is no "specific" stat kept for that. If you do research though you will see that some calculations have Elway and some have Marino. Nobody will ever convince me that there is (or was) any other QB better than Marino he's the best hands down!!!! He never won a Super Bowl, but SB's are won by teams. For all the 49er slappies, Bill Walsh once said Joe Montana was the product of a system, Dan Marino WAS a system!!

  • Agreed. Saying that Marino isn't clutch is like saying Michael Jordan used to choke on the 4th quarter.

A ring doesn't always define a player, it depends who you have. I guess Barry Sanders, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone are chokers because they don't have a ring either. It has more to do with what you have on your team, and Montana had A LOT.

  • I definitely agree. The whole "he never won a ring" thing is idiotic. Elway didn't either until he got bailed out at the end of his career by Terrell Davis and one of the best O-Lines ever. However, it was widely known that Marino wanted to throw the ball on every play (who can blame him?). But you can't win in the NFL like that. That was Marino's only flaw as a player. He was competitive to a fault, but that's also what made him so amazing. He's still the best pure passer ever.

  • That is ridiculous. If Marino had Jerry Rice and all the entire probowl front line of Montana, he would have had 5 Superbowls back to back! No more Superbowls the instant Montana leaves the 49ers for KC? The system is so well built that it sets up the next 49er dynasty without Montana.

  • That's because Steve Young was yet another amazing quarterback.

  • With a good team is the point. The Dolphins were all about Marinos arm.

  • Boy did my brother HATE this game this was the BEST!!!

  • omg if he wouldve won a superbowl he wouldve seemed a lot better hes the best passing quarterback maybe not the best though

  • What a legend. Simply the best.

  • Marino is about the 6th or 7th best passer in NFL history. Montana is clearly number 1

  • Clearly your an idiot who has been listening to John Madden way too much.

  • The best of the ring less rest!!!

  • Chiefs are gonna get whipped in arrowhead next week

  • Montana cant hold Marino's jock.

Marino holds almost every record and had no running game to speak, or quality receivers

  • what the crap man? Mark Clayton and Mark Duper might be the best receiving duo in history. Marino and Montana met on the big stage and Montana played a near perfect game. They whipped them 38-16.

  • ill give you that about the "Marks brothers".

But the 49ers were a dynasty in the 80's throughout Montana's career in SF. As far as a pure passer, Marino had a way stronger arm and more talented. Marino did a lot more with mediocre teams with the exception of a couple of seasons in the 80's.

  • And Won SHIT!! That's the point!!!!!!!!!

  • i think hes talkin about in the mid 90's

  • Yea, the Rings on his fingers make it hard to hold things. You truly are a fucking idiot.

  • you dont seem to understand what im saying do you Mike?

what are you so sour about

    internet tough guy

put marino on those niner teams and he wouldve won more titles than montana did

thats just my opinion you dont have to agree but you dont have to resort to name calling either

  • Sorry man. If you sound stupid I'll call you stupid. That's what people love about me.

    STUPID!

Go Fuck Yourself ! My toughness goes WAY beyond the internet.

    ASS WIPE!

  • im sure it does. SMFH

you would never tell me to fuck myself in person, you wouldnt say it to anyone's face for that matter.

Cause we wouldnt be having this discussion in person, we wouldve gone toe to toe and I wouldve taken your girl after (if you have one)

But like I said Montana cant hold Marino's jock. Deal with it Mikey

  • Actually, there's A LOT that Mike doesn't seem to understand. After all, anyone who proposes that "Marino was all about Marino" is obviously just getting on here to snipe at a man who is widely aklowledged, by former team mates AND former opponents, as one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. You don't get inducted to the HOF, in your first year of eligibility by accident.

  • I'm not saying he was the best Qb ever, but I will say he was the best pure passing Qb of All-Time. Bottom line! None were better. That whole ring thing is a bunch of BS. It takes more then a solid Qb to win one, you can ask Mr Elway a little something about that...

  • I differ with you, rings can be bought at any retail outlet near you, records can't. All Time passing leader in 28 stats and that ranks as "ok" in your book? If he played as a Chief you wouln't think he was just..."ok".

  • sorry besides the exception of maybe favre and montana...no one is better than marino and im a bills fan...brady and manning might be one day but right now the lowest he could possibly be in my list is 3rd

  • This was one of Marino's last great games. Maybe THE last. He didn't have too many highlights from 1995-1999, not games like this where he was clearly the best player on the field.

  • What about that game that would go on to be Elways last Monday Night game?

  • I was at that game... Fresh out of High School.... Those were the days.... Marino was the greatest..

  • Beautiful, we need more legendary Marino vids on YouTube

  • I really don't like this video....me you in KC this year. I'm going to kick you in the nuts.

  • why is everyone hating on Pete Stoyanovich ??? he did "wonders", for us when he came to KC...hahahaha

  • wonders like what win a superbowl? didnt think so kc hasent won one in 32 years

  • How many TDs did Dan throw as an NFL freshman?

  • 20. And that was while missing 5 games.

  • I was at that game with my Dad right in that end zone. Some of my best memories.

  • what i would do to be able to see Marino play

  • nice

  • in 2000 Marino was close to signing to the vikings who made the nfc championship game. imagine if he did, marino, moss, carter, smith....definite superbowl win

  • thats scary that like a def superbowl win

  • @MIMIOMAR

It'll probably would have given the Vikings some more motivations to win it all but their defense would have doomed them anyway.

  • @MIMIOMAR yea but look wat he did without out all that support

  • Montana's last game. Funny thing. One month later, the Steve Young-led niners won the Super Bowl on the same field.

  • What a pleasure it was to watch the most talented QB of all time...he was something special.

  • i remember this game...i was torn since i live in KC...dan also ran for a touchdown in this game....u know things were going his way when that happens lol

  • Not exactly. I remember one game against the Falcons where Marino scored on a qb draw from the shotgun formation, and that put Miami within 3 scores of tieing the game.

  • DAN MariNo the best best

  • dan marino THE BEST

  • Just saw the missed FG for the first time. It was a poor snap too

  • What man Dan so great was that he stuck with the fins throughbn thick and thin. And all the records.lol

  • I know Dan did not get to win the big game. But he trully is the best pure passer i have ever seen. He probably should have went to pitsburgh when he left the Dolphins.

  • Nah, I'm kinda glad he retired a Dolphin, even though the front office screwed him over. If he did go to another team, it should have been Minnesota (which he was close to doing). The Vikes went to the NFC championship in '00. Could Marino have gotten them to the SB?

  • I agree. I would have loved to see him win a Super Bowl and Pittsburgh was a perfect fit.

  • @RuneSeller actually Tampa Bay back then was a perfect fit - they had everything but a good QB and there was actually talk of him going there after the 2000 season but he wanted to stay true to the Miami dolphins - very selfless act on his part - in my opinion the best PLAYER ever in the history of the NFL

  • @RuneSeller Or Minnesota where they wanted him badly. Can you imagine him throwing to those wide receivers there?I think he didn't want to play on the turf too.If the Jets had drafted him originally he would have still been there.

  • Dan thanks for the memories

  • Marino = Best QB of all time

  • i remember that game.

  • I've also posted a clip from the 94 game against the Patriots. Shula! Marino! the Tuna! It's all there...

  • Joe Montana's last game

Think the Fins lost to San Diego the next week

  • You right, the kicker missed the field goal at the end of that game

  • yeah, unfortunately

  • you're right, whoever said that, this is Joe Cool's final game

  • I was at that game!! Great memories! I believe it was also Joe Montana's final game as well.

  • It was! I was 7 at the time, first football game. Amazing memories...

  • The Dolphins had a better chance against the 49ers than the Chargers did. Miami had the offensive firepower to hopefully leep up with the 49ers. Not saying it would have happened, but I think they matched up better.

  • I thought Pittsburgh had a better chance against the 9ers

  • I was at the "fake spike" game that year in the Meadowlands when they came back to beat the Jets after being down 24-6. It was amazing to hear the whole stadium go silent. But the San Diego game...I am still recovering. I agree with Benniator regarding the safety. It totally turned the tide of that game.

  • thats why he is the greatest ever

  • Fucking Stoyanovich

  • If you're referring to his missed last-second field goal in the San Diego Divisional Playoff game the following week, the entire second half was an abortion. The refs were HORRID and Miami as a team collectively decided to take a dump on the field.

  • Listen,We were season Ticket holders,I was 11 at the time,I was at the buffalo loss 2yrs before,as well as the KC game in the video.SB29 was at JRSon my bday Jan29.There was nothing i wanted more in my life than them in the SB that year.Petie had just recieved a huge contract for over a $million. His GODDAMN JOBwas to make 48yFGs w/the season on the line. After he missed that I went n my room&cried my eyes out for 20min.Pete Stoyanovich should die of Gonorrhea and rot in hell

  • I was despondent for weeks after that loss, too. Think I flunked a test that next week because of it. But there was more than enough blame to spread around.

At least you went to Dolphin games. I never saw Marino play live (lived in the middle of nowhere). Consider yourself lucky that you got to see one of the greatest players of all time play in person. By the way, were you there for the '94 season opener against the Pats? That game was amazing.

  • I have that game on dvd too. I'll have to post his 4th down game winning TD pass.

  • Awesome!

  • Most memorable game ive ever been to. The mud from the stupid infield. the flea flicker. 4th & 6 to fryar. we had such a terrible preseason that year. i remember my dad turning to me during that game going "oh yeah marino, washed up?, shula washed up?, oh yeah what the hell do they know"

  • Oh, there's no way they would have beaten the 49ers in the SB that year

  • Yeah, the Dolphins probably would have been murdered by the 49ers in the Super Bowl. But it would have been a Miami a home game, so you never know.

  • I am Dolphins fan. I'd like to know how the refs were horrid. I always thought it was the team's fault

  • The refs made terrible calls in the SD game. SD's Means fumbled the ball going into the endzone on a th down at the beginning of the second half with the ball hitting the pylon. Should have been a touchback and the Dolphins getting the ball on the 20. Instead, the refs gave the ball to the Dolphins at the 1 inch line, which was promptly turned into a safety on a Parmalee run. There were others, but that's the one that has stuck with me. It's been 13 years, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the rest.

  • Should have been a touchback. I remember that game like it was yesterday. 21-6 lead at the half....=(. I remember Mark Seay all alone over the middle and of course Stoyo's miss. This one hurt more than the AFC Championship game against Buffalo.

  • He was alone on the right side of the field actually

  • Pete = God

  • i'll take marino over montana..

  • This is the '94 Playoffs, not '93.

  • You are right - that was a typo. I changed the Title to 1994.

  • BEST QB EVER

  • you got that right, buddy!
