  • This is effing supreme.

  • Betty is everything, dynamic interpretation, bending the tones, conducting the rhythm -- what I would give to see her again live! It’s spectacular to find this clip, thank you so much for posting. In my opinion this interpretation of the poignant lyrics of this song are her best – although a much later duet recording w/ Carmen McRae is also beautiful

  • My first hearing the great Betty Carter was on an episode of the Cosby Show. She sang "locomotion" the Betty Carter way. Its was amazing. Ella, Billie, Sarah, Nancy are all greats and icons. But theres something about Ms. Carter that separates her. I would to hear her sing Autumn in New York.

  • My heart is crying tears of joy from u Ms. Betty!!!!!

  • Ella was Swing, Billie was Blues, Nina was Soul, Betty was the definition of jazz. What is jazz after all? Total improvization! If you take the concept of JAZZ, it wasn't supposed to be locked in a recording, it is supposed to be LIVE and IMPROVIZED. For that matter, BETTY WAS JAZZ!!!

  • I know she hated the name but I say it respectfully and with due deference but there was only and will only be one Betty "Bebop". She was beyond category. There was no other singer like her. She put the "You" in UNIQUE!

  • GET THAT SH*T MS. BETTY!

  • These 2 generous clips from 1977 are magnificent!!! I think I will go listen to The Audience with Betty Carter!!

  • The great Betty!

  • I will forever celebrate and respect the music and artistry of Betty Carter. I love you Betty and shall never forget.
