Interesting that as soon as GM becomes essentially a national motor company, the lynch mob go for the Toyotas. And TONNES of American brands have been recalled, several times. The anti-japanese car bullshit is exactly that, bullshit. Typical American protectionist crap. Trust Toyota over the corrupt US gov't/GE conspiracy. My dad has worked at a Toyota dealership for 30 some years, and told me later that the whole thing was made up, and there never was a problem with those vehicles. They checked out the 'black boxes' in all the vehicles that crashed and found out that NONE of them had pressed on the brakes before crashing; they all hit the gas. Toyota told my dad not to sell any cars until they found the problem. Now what American company would do that? None. It's unfair to attack Toyota like that.
I feel sorry for all the people that died in those toyotas. Shame on toyota and shame on japan since there part owners of all the japan car companies.

@lander4545 The Federal Gov't has an vested interest to remove Toyota's market share. I notice that these complaints stem from the USA for the most part. @UberNoodleX Sorry to inform you but Toyota's recalls have been worldwide! Toyota is the best car company in the world. Toyota cars are the best in the world. Those are temporary hiccups. Do not make a mistake of buying shitty GM car. If you do the lifetime of suffering awaits you. This was public service announcement "The more you know". You are welcome America.
Go ahead and put your family at risk. I'll stick to driving mine in an american car. Lets get the facts straight. Faulty brake pedal linkage. Right, try corrupt software. Keep selling america on excuses. Fess up to the truth!
@mtrcitymotown If only your opinion wasn't so clouded by emotionality. American cars are great, but you make out like they are better than Japanese cars BECAUSE they are American. That sir, is illogical, and it goes against world safety and reliability statistics. You should research just much quality control issues have plagued American car companies in teh past and even know. This whole Toyota debarcle is fueled by the need for protectionist smear campaigns to protect gov't interests.
fords are good too??????You don`t know what you are talking about!!!Remember?....10 million cars and more recalled by Ford?Maybe Toyota is in trouble but it`s the first time Toyota is dealing with major one. Before toyota was known for reliability.Mercedes also recalled 1.5 vehicles in 2005.Did everybody gave a damn???NO.And don`t forget that the faulty parts were made in the USA.Maybe they have been approved by Toyota buy they were surely not made at Toyota standards. We can`t blame only Toyota
Yeah car companies do make recalls, they all do but this time Toyota took so long to respond and is the lack of action that is pissing people off.American cars are shit because the people who make them don't give a shit and they're stupid.
Still, I no some Chinese made stuff are shit but where's the quality control? This process should be what Toyota is good for. Amercian cars are shit. Buy Europeans or Australian.
Toyota Cars and Trucks Are Still The Best! just another dead week in news, news got nothing to talk about so they blow this little tiny small problem way outta hand!!
Ford is bringing BACK factory jobs from Mexico, has become a new leader in safety, and didn't take bailout money. Ford has quietly become one of the most respectable brands in cars once again.
Buy Ford. And maybe some GM, in order to make sure they buy back their company from the government by June like they've claimed. But I'm definitely getting a Ford next, when my GM decides to finally die.
I'm sticking with the early 00's models, or perhaps a Honda. They build motorcycles- they should know a thing or two about making engines that take a lot of abuse.
but its not breakin down, its just got a dangerous problem with auto acceleration or some shit. when a ford breaks down, it does not function, like you cant use it. you can still use the toyotas, just drive to the dealership n get em fixed for free.
I think the people who design the car are in Japan. Therefore it is not the fault of Americans. We just built based on the Japanese design. However, I still think Japanese cars are not only cheaper, but better than American cars because they cost less to buy and maintain. That been said, Toyota has a large recall because of a mistake. I had that problem once or twice with the break paddle with my Toyota Rav4 2000, but my car is not part of the recall process.
@IdleBystander1 That's a good way to do damage to your engine. It's the same reason you're not supposed to use cruise control in the rain - the CC doesn't know your wheels hit water, it'll just run the engine with no resistance and potentially damage it.
Yeah, but ruined engine beats death at 120 mph in my book. So yeah, stomp on the clutch, or better yet turn off the car. Unless you have an automatic that won't let you turn off the engine unless you're in park. In that case, yeah, you're dead :p
@TigersBigWoody - It is still OWNED by the Japanese and run by Japanese thus it is NOT built as an American car. Doesn't matter where they build it, it matters WHO builds it.
People who believe that Japanese cars are better than American cars are Ignorant fools. This is an old myth that idiots continue to perpetuate. (The Japanese cars I have owned over the years have needed repairs just as often as my American and German cars). The recent Toyota recall is NOT the first ever in history as some morons may think. The FACT is that Japanese cars suffer from recalls just as often as American cars. People need to stop repeating what they are told and do some research!
you dont know what youre talkin about. toyotas biggest problem is cars accelerating involuntarily -- pretty bad. but when an american car malfunctions, it doesnt function at all, it cant be driven.
Pelonetillo - I know EXACTLY what I am talking about!...I have over 30 years experience working on American, Japanese and German cars.....I have ALSO researched recall histories of American AND foreign cars.....You merely repeat what you hear.......If Japanese cars are so damn great, why do NAPA and all other auto parts stores sell parts for Japanese cars?
People (like you) tend to believe (and repeat) what they hear without checking FACTS!...You obviously missed the part about my 30 plus years EXPERIENCE working on automobiles.....Stop drinking the kool-aid and do some research...There are many web sites that list vehicle recalls...Personal experience has taught me to check the facts before coming to a conclusion...Too many people don't...That's why this country is in trouble.
uh, no. my views are based on facts, i, along with many friends, family and acquaintances have experience far more severe car issues with american cars.
I dont remember GM, Ford or Chrysler recalling every model they had ever built! Please, I am in the automotive engineering field. I work for a private company which provides assembly lines for both domestic and foriegn auto makers, Based on my 25 years experience with cad product design there is NO comparison between the two.Japanese cars are engineered far simplier and cheaper. Bottom Line.
no, the bottom line is: personal experience with the cars in question trumps whatever research or work you do. people trust japanese over american for a reason. get over it.
I don't have to read it slowly to understand, unlike you. 30 years experience is a flat out, bold face lie and you know it. And if you do own un-American cars, I'm sure you do have a lot of experience fixing them. Go back to Japan where you belong, Hirohito.
my accord is still great going ten years no problems unlike my dads f-150 that got engine problems twice and two weeks ago he got a letter from ford that his windstar should be taken to a dealer because of some problems
Atleast the company got ahold of him to let him know of the problem and to resolve it rather than ignoring and hiding it! I admit thou Honda is a great company and Ford has also came a long way now - all the current models are really remarkable - I trust Ford now. They have learned from their mistakes and I hope others do too!
Yeah, it's still one of the most reliable car manufacturers. Two Toyotas I've had for eight years, no problems whatsoever. The Ford I had years ago, and a Chrysler, we constantly getting on my nerves because of their problems. This won't change a thing. (And when Toyota gets a problem, it's usually the easiest one to fix. Ask any mechanic.)
Yeah but the Ford or the Chrysler probably never accelerated up to 120 mph and blocked you from putting the car into neutral!
Toyota is so fucking fucked for this. They put in a mechanism that doesn't allow any gear shift above 45mph, so putting the car into neutral wasn't an option, and 300 horsepower against the breaks isn't much help either.
These people were in a death trap plain and simple. I was wrong to assume they were stupid for not putting the car in neutral, I bet they tried hard!
know the feeling, i baught a pontiac...2 days later GM announces pontiac will stop production end of 2010...i was floored...dont get me wrong, i love my car...but *sigh* just a downer at the same time. i too, am a jinx.
Historically Jap cars have proven to be more reliable year after year after year.
US car companies are jumping on the fact that Toyota now has an issue. Toyota This is an unfortunate issue that is being exploited for economic reasons. I'd rather drive a Toyota than a Ford, Dodge or Chevy.
Every big car company has recalls. Toyota is the biggest this recall just happend to effect many models so it has gotten HUGE publicity. I don't have one but everyone knows toyota is the most reliable brand even among japanese cars it's number one in reliability.
Many American cars are made overseas and many Japanese cars (including Toyota) have factories in the U.S.A. It's the brand, not the nation, that's the issue. American autoworkers can be just as competent as their foreign counterparts.
It's funny how everyone is so concerned about Toyota's that are made here in the US while THE SAME thing has been happening for years with Chrysler vehicles and also ignore over 14 millions unsafe Gen3 Seatbelts in Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep from 1993-2004 where people have been "ejected" from their vehicles. Chrysler even witnessed crash test dummies being ejected but still used the design. Instead they were given billions in bailout money and helped to be "given" away to FIAT, an Italian company.
Something that is being completely overlooked is THAT CHRYSLER ALSO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM that has been happening for years. I have two videos on it and was just contacted by someone in a newer Dodge RAM that accelerated full throttle on its own and crashed into a pole. Chrysler won't even investigate the issue!
I drove a Ford sumthinorother last summer - it was OK, actually rather pleasant.
I had a gas pedal get jammed down full blast once - it was interesting! Fortunately I turned off the ignition right away, else I could have been famous...
The defect is actually quite rare. Anyone with driving sense would switch it into neutral. Luckily I bought my Toyota Yaris in '07. I still think Toyota is a really good company and I love my gas efficiency. Shit happens, and good that they are not denying it and doing what's right.
You spelled traitors wrong...a mistake no Asian would make, because they're smarter than a eugenic degenerate who doesn't understand import and export taxes or anything about how much Toyota helps our fetal position of an economy.
Degenerate huh, Try A Native American Who supports His Country. A Man whos proud of the shit his peoples and what the country has done. If you done like America, get the fuck out. And if you dont live here, good. We dont want dumbasses like you
The difference between the best car sold in America and the 20th best car in America is less than 1%. Look at the consumer quality statistics, its true. Almost all cars are the same. Toyota had an awesome quality advantage when they were producing 60% less cars than GM and Ford for the last 30 years. Well see more Toyota recalls.
Hey Americans you should import European cars! Peugeot, Renault, and Citroen are the best cars in the world!Oh before I forget, SEAT is also good. MADE IN SPAIN!
If the car is reved up out of control, you can put it in in neutral. That will seperate the engine from the trans. The on board computer (oem) may be overiding it and keeping the engine and trans together even if you put its in neutral.
theres an episode of the sopranos in the second season where Tony goes to italy to try to broaden his stolen car racket overseas, When he tells the other crime boss that the cars he has to offer are "made in america"....they all laugh in Tony's face.
To those that criticize the drivers for not having enough common sense to put the car in neutral: On Aug, 2009, in San Diego, a 2009 Lexus ES 350 traveling in excess of 120mph, rear-ended another car. That Lexus is associated with the pedal problem. The driver of the Lexus was an off-duty California highway patrol officer. He and his wife, their daughter, and his brother in law were killed. I guess he HE didnt have enough common sense to drive, right?
putting it into neutral would continue the accelerator to rev the car, ultimately breaking the engine and maybe transmission too. It's better than getting into an accident, but either way, this is a pretty bad situation
learn to drive thats the problem......my mechanical vehicles would malfunction and that was the end of the tranny.........the gas gets stuck and its time to put it in neutral and drive to the shoulder and finally turn the egnition off..........simple
My 2002 Mustang has been flawless. All it has ever needed is just mantinance. Plus it doesn't look like your typical shitbox Toyota. Some of my friends have gone through 2 or 3 Toyota's since 2002. They all say they love my car, but keep buying thier shitbox Toy cars. Marketing is the only advantage Toy has over ANY U.S. company, especially Ford.
toyotas are great cars...probably the best. Gas pedal sticks? brakes can outdo easily that, but if not neutral would resolve the problem immediately... idiot people need to drive idiot cars. like any non toyota car
Ok, so I'm hearing about these people who DIE from this pedal fiasco?
A woman slams into a tree at 80mph...
A whole family dies after crashing at 120mph...
MORONS, ALL OF THEM. This is natural selection taking place.
You know what you do when the pedal gets stuck? YOU PUT IT IN FUCKING NEUTRAL, COME TO A STOP, AND TURN THE KEY.
If you have a license to operating a vehicle, you should know these things. It's like the idiots who fly through blinking red lights when power goes out.
You realize that there are not enough rental cars in all of the USA to provide a rental for everybody, right? Especially if you take away all the Toyota rental vehicles. That's not a good solution. Much better to learn how to shut off the engine or learn how to shift to neutral, or learn how to use the brake, and wait till they fix it.
Ford did'nt get a gov. bailout. F U i have own a fords a the time they dont't break down. It all depends on how well you keep your cars conditions like maintaince etc...
Yeah, I've had a ford focus since 2001, and the only thing I've had to spend money on had to do with things like a door handle, a blower motor for my AC, a broken cigarette lighter, that sort of thing. The engine and transmission have held up great, running as good today as day 1.
An independent company did research and tested Toyota's cars for unintended acceleration and found nothing.

Toyota is the best car company in the world. Toyota cars are the best in the world. Those are temporary hiccups. Do not make a mistake of buying shitty GM car. If you do the lifetime of suffering awaits you. This was public service announcement "The more you know". You are welcome America.
saper321 2 years ago
Go ahead and put your family at risk. I'll stick to driving mine in an american car. Lets get the facts straight. Faulty brake pedal linkage. Right, try corrupt software. Keep selling america on excuses. Fess up to the truth!
mtrcitymotown 2 years ago
@mtrcitymotown If only your opinion wasn't so clouded by emotionality. American cars are great, but you make out like they are better than Japanese cars BECAUSE they are American. That sir, is illogical, and it goes against world safety and reliability statistics. You should research just much quality control issues have plagued American car companies in teh past and even know. This whole Toyota debarcle is fueled by the need for protectionist smear campaigns to protect gov't interests.
UberNoodleX 1 year ago
fords are good too??????You don`t know what you are talking about!!!Remember?....10 million cars and more recalled by Ford?Maybe Toyota is in trouble but it`s the first time Toyota is dealing with major one.

The Ford's Hybrids are having problems with Brake feel.
However, a lot of "Japanese" Cars are made in America these days and a lot of "American" Cars are made in CHINA so whatever.
Umbreona 2 years ago
Still, I no some Chinese made stuff are shit but where's the quality control? This process should be what Toyota is good for. Amercian cars are shit. Buy Europeans or Australian.

Toyota Cars and Trucks Are Still The Best! just another dead week in news, news got nothing to talk about so they blow this little tiny small problem way outta hand!!
NewSkoolRednecks 2 years ago

Pelonetillo 2 years ago
I think the people who design the car are in Japan. Therefore it is not the fault of Americans. We just built based on the Japanese design. However, I still think Japanese cars are not only cheaper, but better than American cars because they cost less to buy and maintain. That been said, Toyota has a large recall because of a mistake. I had that problem once or twice with the break paddle with my Toyota Rav4 2000, but my car is not part of the recall process.
yes4me 2 years ago
And people haven't heard about the -clutch- pedal? You won't go 100miles/h if you push that little fella >_>
ubermons 2 years ago
Yet another reason to drive a manual car. Accelerator on the fritz? Stomp on the clutch, problem solved.
IdleBystander1 2 years ago
@IdleBystander1 That's a good way to do damage to your engine. It's the same reason you're not supposed to use cruise control in the rain - the CC doesn't know your wheels hit water, it'll just run the engine with no resistance and potentially damage it.
JimMonsanto 2 years ago
Yeah, but ruined engine beats death at 120 mph in my book. So yeah, stomp on the clutch, or better yet turn off the car. Unless you have an automatic that won't let you turn off the engine unless you're in park. In that case, yeah, you're dead :p
IdleBystander1 2 years ago
What all you fools fail to realize is most Toyotas are build in America nowadays.
So American has proven AGAIN, it can't build safe and reliable vehicles!!
TigersBigWoody 2 years ago

6boomer9 2 years ago
you dont know what youre talkin about. toyotas biggest problem is cars accelerating involuntarily -- pretty bad. but when an american car malfunctions, it doesnt function at all, it cant be driven.
Pelonetillo 2 years ago
Pelonetillo - I know EXACTLY what I am talking about!...I have over 30 years experience working on American, Japanese and German cars.....I have ALSO researched recall histories of American AND foreign cars.....You merely repeat what you hear.......If Japanese cars are so damn great, why do NAPA and all other auto parts stores sell parts for Japanese cars?
6boomer9 2 years ago
no you dont. personal experience has taught people to buy japanese over american. this is why such a trend exists.
Pelonetillo 2 years ago
People (like you) tend to believe (and repeat) what they hear without checking FACTS!...You obviously missed the part about my 30 plus years EXPERIENCE working on automobiles.....Stop drinking the kool-aid and do some research...There are many web sites that list vehicle recalls...Personal experience has taught me to check the facts before coming to a conclusion...Too many people don't...That's why this country is in trouble.
6boomer9 2 years ago
uh, no. my views are based on facts, i, along with many friends, family and acquaintances have experience far more severe car issues with american cars.
Pelonetillo 2 years ago
I dont remember GM, Ford or Chrysler recalling every model they had ever built! Please, I am in the automotive engineering field. I work for a private company which provides assembly lines for both domestic and foriegn auto makers, Based on my 25 years experience with cad product design there is NO comparison between the two.Japanese cars are engineered far simplier and cheaper. Bottom Line.
mtrcitymotown 2 years ago
no, the bottom line is: personal experience with the cars in question trumps whatever research or work you do. people trust japanese over american for a reason. get over it.
Pelonetillo 2 years ago
WTF? Do you just sit around making shit up?

youre an idiot. you apparently dont even know what a fact is. read my comments more slowly and maybe youll manage to understand them.
Pelonetillo 2 years ago
I don't have to read it slowly to understand, unlike you. 30 years experience is a flat out, bold face lie and you know it. And if you do own un-American cars, I'm sure you do have a lot of experience fixing them. Go back to Japan where you belong, Hirohito.

VolcanicPenguin 2 years ago
Yeah, it's still one of the most reliable car manufacturers. Two Toyotas I've had for eight years, no problems whatsoever. The Ford I had years ago, and a Chrysler, we constantly getting on my nerves because of their problems. This won't change a thing. (And when Toyota gets a problem, it's usually the easiest one to fix. Ask any mechanic.)
Hyvaerinen 2 years ago
Yeah but the Ford or the Chrysler probably never accelerated up to 120 mph and blocked you from putting the car into neutral!
Toyota is so fucking fucked for this. They put in a mechanism that doesn't allow any gear shift above 45mph, so putting the car into neutral wasn't an option, and 300 horsepower against the breaks isn't much help either.
These people were in a death trap plain and simple. I was wrong to assume they were stupid for not putting the car in neutral, I bet they tried hard!

US car companies are jumping on the fact that Toyota now has an issue. Toyota This is an unfortunate issue that is being exploited for economic reasons. I'd rather drive a Toyota than a Ford, Dodge or Chevy.

kutuluu 2 years ago

This has been flagged as spam show
Something that is being completely overlooked is THAT CHRYSLER ALSO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM that has been happening for years. I have two videos on it and was just contacted by someone in a newer Dodge RAM that accelerated full throttle on its own and crashed into a pole. Chrysler won't even investigate the issue!

To bad some people can't use common sense, just put it in neutral and kill the engine glide to a stop................seems pretty simple.
Duder1969 2 years ago
putting it into neutral would continue the accelerator to rev the car, ultimately breaking the engine and maybe transmission too. It's better than getting into an accident, but either way, this is a pretty bad situation
