  • FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH MORE PLEASE.

  • just genial...

  • jesus & mary chain rules

  • EEEehhh NOOOO, not shoegaze, it's fucking post new wave bullshit. Not bad, but not good shoegaze at all. The tempo's way too fast and it sounds like depeche mode.

  • jesus and mary chain and late depeche mode, with a bit of primal scream lyrics, very late '80s indie/alternative

  • отстой пидорский

  • Amazing.

  • APTBS has the hardcore award in shoegaze down. now if only they could think outside the JAMC box when they write songs.

  • open house..........

  • the bass riff sounds way too resemblant to "in a hole" by the jesus and mary chain...still, shoegaze is shoegaze. good band.

  • I was watching open house and had to see if this was a real group, great music!

  • simplementee wow :D

  • wicked song for open house!

  • I came when I heard that riff at about 20 seconds in.

  • Some of the most melodic and catchy shoegaze I've ever heard.

  • i just felt in love with this song!!

Remember me to the 80 s

  • hmmmmmmmmm don't compare to old showgaze

  • oliver ackermann's mom works at my highschool though ive never had her as a teacher... shes really cool though i hear

  • sex dwarf !!

  • How about old Cure?

  • @rikbrown Definitely!

  • It also reminds me a bit of early Xymox

  • Takes me back to 1980's Bauhaus

  • It's always snowing somewhere

  • they are playing in phili tonight for free at rittenhouse square with drink up butter cup and goverment cheeze, be there of be square i know i will be!!!

  • Good song..this was in the film OPEN HOUSE..in a murder scene..LOL

  • the Jesus and Mary Chain - In a Hole :)

  • To me, they've (not at all consciously) taken Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" as a starting point and progressed with it light years ahead. "Exploding Head" is one of the truly great albums in the entire 'rock' canon. For its purity and honesty and lack of compromise, it's eons ahead of just about anything else at the moment...and certainly WAY more relevant. Plus there's not a duff note on the whole CD...it's intensity, passion, and melody (by the tonne) from the get go....

  • what is shoegaze style music ?

  • @Canada2332

lots of layers of guitars, delay fuzz flanger... wall of sound, but the songs stay pretty poppy, with mostly vocals mixed very quietly.

  • @Canada2332

shoegaze is derived from the musicians standing still and seeming to stare at their shoes, but what they're really doing is watching their effects pedals. its really heavily distorted alternative music basically. like a wall of sound. a great example would be My Bloody Valentine, their album "Loveless' is a masterpeice.

  • YES. I digggggg.

  • brilliant

  • And i thought in your heart was good but this is great. So influence by the cure.

  • OPEN HOUSE with Tricia great song !!!

  • @ljoch88 yeah i heard it on open house the looked it up AWESOME!!!!!!

  • not a fan

  • yeah!!! ossom! we'll have this wonderful band next monday! like a dream made reality

  • New Order + Jesus And Mary Chain. Isn´t it?

  • Yay, in Rock Al Parque (Bogotá, Colombia)

Can't wait to see these guys!

  • they never have listened The jesus and mary chain :)

  • bass and drum machine sounds reminds New Orded

  • this song definately needs a better video clip!

  • just no

  • wooow i love it!!

  • I listened to them a few years ago and only now has this genre reached mainstream (The editors, White lies)... At least I think they sound like them....

  • shoewave

  • @cranialexodus its actually nu-gaze

  • Listen The Vandelles, they kick ass too

  • jesus and who?

  • they kick ass!

  • What album is this so I can purchase it?

  • Sounds like Joy Division from the Ian Curtis days.....

  • @nyclifer 21st century Joj Division

  • The band visited Helsinki in 2009, missed it, sadly. The couple of times I've heard them on the radio: "hey, what's this great stuff?!?" without knowing who's plying. And now I see that even their YouTube clips are ûbercool :-)

  • tones on tail, old love and rockets, i like this kind of stuff.

  • WOW 5***

  • If this is Noise/Nugaze, then why is the percussion so damned funky and hi tempo?

  • Because it's brand new and not capable of being lumped into a catagory, D4MP. That's why!

  • awesome

  • wow.. this makes me think of smart people. i've been in the same place to bury state 4 2 long

  • Dark sound, really good band, I would recommend Exploding Head to anyone.

  • They do not sound like The Stranglers one bit. Maybe texturally but the musicianship is completely different.

  • reminds me of the Stranglers.

Are people openly copping everyone that's gone before? it's good. But wheres the innovation?

  • not really my kind of music but they have a cool, original sound. i have to give them that!

  • I fuckin' love it. Great Shoegaze/Post-Punk/Noise rock combination.

  • This is new The Jesus And Mary Chain :)

  • Brings in mind Ladytron doesn't it?

  • @Zakoulis

    What?

I like both APYBS and Ladytron, but they sound COMPLETELY different.

  • I agree, it's the same style, just different.

  • Master thieves I say!

So many great influences in this band, even way back to the big bang of it all: The Velvets!

  • Finally a shoegaze band that is new

  • dude there are lots of them. Try Asobi Seksu, M83, and Maps out, they are all really good.

  • @siliva1 See: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Maybe a little pop-oriented, but the twee definitely works well with the shoegaze wall-of-sound. To be convinced in one song, see 'Young Adult Friction'.

  • Similies are nice. I'm sure they wouldn't deny the comparisons. But I really love this band, I think they have their own sound, similiar to many, but different enough to be brilliant.

  • ive seen them live ::P:P:P:P:P

  • @Catmanthefirst I will say it tomorrow :D

  • Not really Joy Division. The drums are programmed which i guess is like Automatic-era JAMC or New Order. That bass is totally Peter Hook/ Early-The Cure too.

  • sounds like jesus and mary chain

  • this track reminds me of the cure's 'primary' mixed with JAMC sounds.

    Or it is just me?

  • I saw them this summer at pukkelpop , they are completely awesome live, wall of sound. yes, the day before APTBS i saw MBV live, the most sonic sound experience ever . WALL OF NOISE DOES EXIST. this song is really beautiful.

  • I almost smelt a bit of early Swans in their too. nice.

  • I recently saw them in Portland. They sound like Jesus and Mary chain. Cool

  • JAMC is the biggest influence. Joy Division, The Cure...all secondary to the Mary Chain.

  • definitely feels like Joy Division meets Jesus and Mary Chain

  • I saw them at The Westword music fest in Denver earlier this year in June, and it's definitely worth checking them out. I most def agree that they have the early feel of Joy Division - I snapped some great photos of them as well.

  • Some of the video effects remind me of a Joy Division album cover. I wonder if that was intentional. I also really like this band, and I suppose their music is reminiscent of Joy Division's.

I like the video description. I live in Cleveland near Oberlin. Too bad I didn't know about this band or I would have gone to the show. Hope they come to Cleveland soon.

  • I can see The Cure too, really really early Cure. :-)

  • I Agree with you Larvalee

  • Comment removed

  • the bassline sounds like its borrowed from a Jesus and Mary Chain song, I forgot which one but its on Psychocandy

  • in a hole

  • reminds me of the cure

  • obviously doesnt know what he's talking about

  • of course not they just invented alternative music :-)

  • You're joking right? The Cure is a largely influential band, APTBS is just another speck in the noise pop fad.

  • you sir are correct! ;}

  • great!!!

  • i saw them open up for NIN amazing

  • they build some cool pedals

  • they overcharge. the total sonic anahilation(spelled that wrong) is like 150 bucks. there're like maybe $30 worth of electronics in that thing, and thats being generous

  • VIVA EL NOISE

  • good but stolen from jamc in a hole

  • And also from My Bloody Valentine! But we can always consider that as a tribute...

  • it it it is goood!

  • The 9th Annual Siren Music Festival

    July 18 2009 Noon to 9pm

    at Coney Island, NYC

  • i looooveeee it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • (one of) the best shoegaze/psychedelic bands at this time.

  • THis is the Best Indie song of the year so far!!!!The Video is very was very creative.

It may have legs. - BigPhil

  • Yeah defo.... Oh wait 2007 and released in '08....

  • mmmmmmmmm:)

  • These distorted patterns between 0:25 and 0:28 really remind me of JD's" Unknown pleasures" CD cover....

  • since i've watched it's always snowing somewhere, im just lovin it ;)

  • Just saw these blokes on 13 June at the Westword Music Fest, and I must say that they are a reminder of Joy Division. They have their own sound; I can clearly see them going somewhere.

  • ackerman builds his own pedals too

  • 0:04 - 0:15 Just wow.

  • beautifully done song. ackmann just is one of those amazing guitarist that find that perfect sound for their music. What genre is this considered?

  • Psychedelic Rock

  • other my friends call it mey bloody sonic youth rock

  • This Guitar sound ... where you can see the guitar verry near...is that "sound" somewhere else.. Ifucking love that " grive :O " ^^ 0:19

    mfg

  • That my friend is a surf guitar sound. it is made by useing a delay pedal and can be found in music by "the ventures" or in the film by Quintin Tarrantino "Pulp Fiction".

  • Thank you :)

  • Fucking love this song.

  • the guitarist owns death by audio and designs all the pedals they make

  • This actually sounds exactly like a Skywave song.

  • I can't remember who exactly, but some members of APTBS were in Skywave

  • Oliver was.

  • Someone probably stated it already, but the bass line sounds exactly like JAMC's "In A Hole."

But APTBS did a great job with it.

  • KICK ASS!!

  • sounds surf guitary

  • all good.. all good.. all good,

every right influence you can think of allied to their own personal sonic boom! roll on dublin 31st of march when i can catch these fuckers in the act!

  • This band is really awesome, its a combination of joy division a the cure with influences from bauhaus and sonic youth

  • you only have to see the video effect on this video that reminds of Unknown Pleasurs' cover :)

  • I don't care who they sound like. they're just great. they sound like A Place To Bury Strangers and that's it.

  • GREAT, Just GREAT!!!

  • These guys are CRAZY live! If you see them before the show talk to them because i did and i got put on the guest list! SO FUCKING AWESOME!

  • someone has been listening to the Cure, in a forrest. me thinks

  • it definitely has that sound, a lot in the beginning... i never noticed that.

nice observation. why so many thumbs down?

  • I didnt even notice the thumbs, please disregard them, I actually really like the song. Comparing it to the cure was

    meant as big a compliment.

    Dez

  • If My Bloody Valentine opened for the Jesus and Mary Chain, at a Bar Called Skywave, where there was a Joy Division/ Space-man Three Open Mic Night this band would be bussing tables. Brooklyn is a place to bury Shoegaze.

  • buin- I dig your list of influences... but I don't agree with the negative tilt you gave them... Everyband is a new version of something old. I am just glad these guys are keeping shoegaze going for the next generation...
